Settler's Hill Golf Course
About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Staff
Ranger on hole 9 asked us to pick- up our pace
because we were 1 1/2 holes behind 3 some
in front of us. We were at 1 hour and 45 minutes
mid way thru 9. 4 some usual don’t keep up with
3 some
Rough Shape
Course was in rough shape. Disappointed. I think it was in poor enough shape to warrant closing it for the day while nature took its course to dry it out. Standing water everywhere. Large chunks out of many greens. A few greens just had dirt covering old hole locations...no grass? Certainly won't go back...
Good Value
Great location giving a quiet and remote feel. Friendly staff. Decent course. Slow pace of play.
Great Value with challenging terrain
Course was in good shape, winds of 20 mph plus gusts added to the challenges. This course is laid out well, shots need to be placed well on a lot of holes but its a very fair course to play. Staff is really great and enhance the round
Stormy
Had to bail out after 14 holes due to lightning in the area. All in all, the recent reviews are correct about the state of conditioning being spotty, especially the greens. Yet this is an interesting layout with challenging green undulations and some tricky par 5's. Should be a 4 star course but current conditioning held it back.
A good test of golf
Played the day after a very heavy storm had hit the area, so the fairways were holding a lot of water, which meant carts only on the path. Played the course from the blue tees and given the humid conditions and wet fairways it played all its length and then some. What I particularly like about this course are the variations of holes and the elevation changes which makes for a very enjoyable round. One particular feature of this course are the par 5's, all of which are very challenging off the blue tees.
Interesting course
Love the idea of taking a garbage dump and making a beautiful golf course. Love the Par 3’s. Very friendly workers.
Greens are terrible
Worst greens I have played all year. Bumpy, slow and no pace whatsoever. Pace of play was bad as usual. Don't spend your money here.
Course conditions
Course needs some updating. The course is tired and I need some TLC. You can hurt your back on the golf cart paths
Greens were in poor shape
I am played this course many times and was disappointed with the condition of the course. The bunkers were in very poor condition in the greens are very bumpy. It was a good value for the price but I like the layout but the course needs work .
Course used to be really nice with very good greens.
Greens were bumpy and it looked like the had not changed the hole location for a couple of days. They were beat up around the holes. They have made some improvements with taking out some trees but overall was very disappointing
Has gone downhill
I play settlers every year, usually a couple of times. I grew up playing this course. Unfortunately, it’s in some of the worst shape I’ve seen it in years. Many of the fairways have large dead patches, the tee boxes are chewed up with divits, and even a few of the greens are beat up. One or two of the greens have large, brown dead patches of grass on them. Often, if you hit a fairway, you will end up on hay (they are trying to regrow grass in some spots) or just mud. I love the layout of the course and love how challlenging the back nine is, but it really was a disappointment to see how bad of shape the course is in. Still might play for under $30, but any more than that and I would be upset is spent the money.
A Hidden Gem
This course is adjacent to a landfill so I did not have high expectations . Have played 3 times in the past 6 weeks. A wonderful track. Many holes have significant elevation changes. Course and greens are top notch. Staff is friendly. One negative is no GPS on the carts but I use my own range finder . Not crowded and pace of play is 4 hours or less . Front 9 is fairly straightforward. Back 9 is a real challenge with a couple of really tough holes.
Highly recommended and added to my favorite courses. BTW I am retired and play once a week with a 15 handicap
