Settler's Hill Golf Course
About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Challenging, but slow play
from elevation changes, tree and fescue lined fairways to the undulations in the greens made every hole a new adventure. Would have enjoyed round more if the pace was a little faster, waited on just about every hole...
Friendly staff
Course was a little wet , but in good shape. Could have been marked better from green to next tee box .
wet conditions
We played a day and a half after a 5 inch rain event. Cart path only and wet fairways, but still playable. Greens were a little soggy. They were just grooming the sand bunkers and some were still water logged, but didn't present much problem.
Played in 4 hours, it was a good day.
settlers hill
Very slow play. We did not stop at 9 and it still took well over 4 1/2 hrs. Very nice for a beginner if you cant hit the ball more than 50 yrds. Should have a sign about players and pace of play
A Nice Golf Course
This 18 hole coarse was built on a landfill but it looks very nice. The first hole and several of the par 3 holes look as good as any I've played. There are several vents that account for burning off gas but my sense is that the air is clean, the views are nice and the clubhouse is very clean. The fairways and greens are very well maintained. Water is a major factor but there are challenges. Several fairways slope and several of the greens are very challenging. Overall, it's a very nice course to play and I play it often.
excellent condition, several challenging holes
What I consider the toughest golf hole in IL and it is not even rated #1 handicap. Several holes require accurate position rather than great length. Greens are quick and rolling. Very hilly a cart is strongly recommended.
Great course and value!
I've played this course a few times and it usually takes 3 1/2 hours. Great layout! Outstanding price! Can't beat it in the Western burbs of Chicago!
Over 5 Hours!
Never again, Settlers Hill. The course was in pretty bad shape, especially the back 9, and the pace of play was just horrible. Multiple holes had multiple groups backed up. Around 14, a ranger came by and asked "so, who's the slow group?" Seriously? It's not that hard to tell. Drive backward from 18 until you see a big gap. Wouldn't be worth $20, let alone $50.
Great Course
Had never played here and wasn't sure what to expect. Love the layout and elevation changes of the course. It is not very long but every hole has a new challenge. Greens are fast and have quite a bit of slope - if you're not a fairway player you'll be in trouble.
Rate of play was very good initially - The round ended up taking forever due to a very slow foursome in front of us - No fault of the course but wasn't able to get around the slow group.
Thoroughly enjoyed our round and can't wait to get back.
Great Course
Went to play this course on a hot deal. Only 25 dollars. Had heard good things but overall was even more impressed after playing. Course was in great condition. Bunkers were actually SAND instead of dirt like many courses in the area. Greens were in great shape as was the rest of the course. Wind made some holes extremely challenging, as it was coming directly towards you. Don't be fooled by the front 9 because the back is much harder. Overall awesome course.
interesting course with some elevation changes
A fun course with some interesting features. Bring extra balls if it is windy...
Fun track!
Love the elevation changes. Par 3's are a lot of fun.
Greens are very undulated and fast. They could use a bit more tlc but overall pretty good. Great value with the Golf Now price.
Will play again.
Great value
Great value, good condition, nice staff, bring your own water?
Beautiful views, great piece of land
Greens are very hilly, and there is lots of trouble - trees, sand, water, fescue and narrow fairways. Starter told us that out of over 2000 par 5s in the Chicago area, hole number 11 is ranked 2nd toughest. It played like that. Playing this course is a real treat, but bring your A game.
Challenging course ruined by poor staff
Had heard from a family member that this was a fun, challenging course with a lot of variety in the play. That holds true, as it was a course with many difficult holes and a lot of different looking holes. But, a nice beautiful summer day was marred by the rude staff that my partner and I were met with almost immediately as we entered the club house.
We paid, and were assigned a cart by a woman at the front counter. As we got into the cart, a cart boy scolded us and told us customer were not allowed to use that cart. Very rude. But that wasn't it, the starter rushed 3 groups along back-to-back-to-back without any rhyme or reason as it was a slow weekday. We specifically asked if we could be split up, and we were told that they were unable to grant our request, or even go to the back of the line (my partner and I are a slower pace player). Rushed the first 3 holes, we decided to split up from the better, faster players we were paired with.
The rest of the day was tainted by the two unfortunate experiences with the cart boy and starter. Unfortunately I will not be playing at this course again. I'd rather drive 10 minutes down the street to Phesant Run or St. Andrews, where I've been treated with nothing but respect.
Excellent Course for the Value
Fun and challenging course to play. Lots of interesting holes and elevation changes. Pace of play was good, A little over 4 hours for foursome. Would come back and play again.
Above average
I would definitely play here again this year hopefully.
Everything you need in a course
Great layout fun challenging holes at each tee box , if the winds up bring your A game you will definetly need it, this course is absolutely on my top 5
Fun course
Settlers Hill is an interesting and fun course to play. There are some really beautiful holes. Good value, don't expect to much by way of amenities though.
