Settler's Hill Golf Course
About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

GREAT COUSE. SCENIC VIEWS
Good value. The greens are a wee bit small, but makes one and two puts more achievable. However the greens and fairways undulate making the course more challenging. Watch out for the cart path hill on #8. Easy to loose control. Enjoy the experience!
Settler's Hill - Needs a makeover
- No driving range
- No water on course
- No scorecards in carts
- 5.5 hour round; disorganized starter
- no 9-hole rate
- terribly marked course; very difficult to find a yardage
Settlers Hill FUN!!!
I always enjoy playing here. Hole #11 from the tips is great and the par 3 #16 are my favorites
Great course, just played on a bad day....
This course is a great course, however, make sure that you go on a day that the weather is good. We went the day after it had rained heavy and we expected things to be wet, but the way this course holds water, it was like tromping through a swamp. I definitely recommend this course on a nice day, and enjoy the 570 yds or so on the 10th hole :)
Ridiculous pins ruined it
No flat spots on greens to begin with but some of the pins were just stupid. On #1 I hit it pin hi 30 feet left, my putt broke about 15 feet. I left an uphill 15 footer 6 inches short and it rolled back down at least 10 feet. You should never have a 3 footer with a foot of break that if you miss, will leave you 10 feet. That's not golf, it's putt-putt.
Great Course
The staff was friendly and I had a great time. Will definitely return.
Great terrain in the flatlands
I played this course very early in the year and had some standing water to work around but the rest of the course was in great shape. The variety of terrain and hole layouts is the real appeal of this course. Each approach offers a new challenge with several blind approaches, downhills and uphills as well as great bunker protection without being unplayable.
Not bad for April
Went out on Sunday the 27th, it was really windy (20-30 mph constant wind), light rain, and fairly cold. Having to deal with these conditions, lets say only your dedicated golfers were on the course. My cuz and I finished 18 in roughly 3 hours which is GREAT!!! The course was in great shape except the greens. They weren't bad but very slow, which is understandable for this time of year. All in all, it was a lot of fun. I think they could charge a little less....$45 is a little pricey at 6:45a.m. in April, but considering we moved so quickly it all worked out.
Great course great value
I have played this course five times and every time it offers a challenge. Great views tough but fair. Great course and even better value. If you are in the area you should check it out
Course was very wet, sloppy fairways and low lying areas.
Course might be better if it were dryer. It hasn't rained that much lately but course was sloppy and muddy. Nice elevation, some cool holes and it forces you to think about your shot selection.
Probably the best bargain in Chicagoland.
If you want a solid golf course combined with a tremendous value, look no further. Settler's Hill is all that and more. The conditions were acceptable but not pristine. With a little bit of sprucing up and repairing the ballmarks on the greens, it would even enhance the experience that much more.
Just very much worth the trip and the elevation changes alone make it very memorable.
Great course for the money.
Course was in very good condition. Some greens had severe undulations but was ok to putt on.
Hidden Gem - Extremely Underrated
I almost don't want to write a review in fear of this place getting more popular. If you like diverse, fair, challenging, and fun layouts, you have to play Settler's Hill.
You have great elevation changes that make for dramatic tee shots (especially on the Par 3s). Each hole has it's own character and the greens feature unique undulations. You learn something new about the course every time you play it.
As a former garbage dump, trash has never looked so good.
Good track, minimal amenities
This is a good course, I would play it again. It is well outside of the city, and is very pretty to look at as you are playing. The greens are tough, not a lot of straight putts. The only drawback is the lack of amenities. Not much of a grill room for post round leisure, and there is no driving range.
Worth the drive out there to play it.
Nice course for the avg golfer.
Fairways and greens are in good shape. The sides were dry and hardpan in some areas. If your ball hits the hardpan you get big bounces and odds are it's going lost or OB. Lots of tall fescue makes you keep the ball in play. Most holes plays independent of each other so you usually can't play a hook or a slice off of another fairway. Strategically placed sand traps in fairways and around greens. Watch the layout on the card as water comes into play and you can't see some of ot from the tee boxes.
Great Course
My wife and I loved the course as everything was well maintained and the course was in great shape. However, disappointed with the staff as they simply didn't seem to care nor wanted to be bothered as we were making the turn and wanted to get a hot dog and beer. It was only 2:30 PM and the concession area was already being closed. That part is not acceptable . . . but will go back as the course is beautiful.
Good course to play.
Has a lot of different holes - water, elevation, dog legs left & right. Long and short par 3's. Very scenic course in great shape.
Course rangers refused to enforce pace of play. No water jugs on course. Only one restroom.
Course rangers refused to enforce pace of play on a group that had falled two full holes behind by mid-round. Course has no water jugs or fountains, forcing you to buy from refreshment cart at exaggerated prices. Only one restroom on the course - definitely not women-friendly.
