Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Very well maintained
Great and challenging layout. Probably the best maintained course I’ve played all year. I can’t wait to play it in the spring.
Excellent course
This was my first time playing here and I was very impressed. Although the fairways were dormant, they were in great shape and free of leaves. The greens were fast and true. Everything was well kept up. It was remarkably idle when I was there, so buzzed through in 3 hrs. I would definitely return.
What I originally booked was a Hot Deal of $28. My cost for the round was $0, as I had Golfpass credit to apply. Not sure what the normal fees are.
Great course and beautiful views
Autumn trees really added to the ambiance of this course. Was told 3 seasons are great views as well. Greens were in good shape but fast! Tee boxes were good as well. Fairways were yellow because of the grass they use but trimmed nicely and easy to hit from. Very pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back!
For A $75 Greens Fee, I Expect More
Far Oaks is one of my favorite golf coursea. But with a steep $75 grrens fee, I expect a lot from a golf course. However, Far Oaks fails to do this.
Overall, the fairways, tees and greens are fine. The greens were super fast. However, this is where Far Oaks falls short when charging a $75 greens fee,
The bunkers are awful. They need to be raked daily. The fairway bunkers on hole 12 were a disgrace. They didn't even have a rake. Crabgrass on numerous fringes. Hole 3 fairway bunker is dirt and weeds. All the yardage poles are gone. No yardage markers on the par 3, hole 6,
Far Oaks is a great course and I would recommend it, howver, not at a $75 price tag.
Good challenging course.
I like the course layout. It’s challenging for the good golfer from the tips. But not overly. Green speed is medium so it caters to the novice as well.
One of the best courses in the area
Extremely well maintained. Beautiful views. Challenging holes that require strategic play. Great greens. I would highly recommend playing here if you live in the area.
Improvements Made, Still Rough Around The Edges
Far Oaks is my 2nd favorite course in the St. Louis metro area behind Annbriar. Earlier in the year, they were making some improvements to the course (mainly drainage issues). With all this work, they are still having drainage issues in the fairways on several holes. However, the first improvement you will notice when you drive into the course - they have paved the parking lot. Much needed and it looks great. The course has many good attributes but it still needs some work.
GOOD:
The greens are in great shape. Only hole 8 had a few belimishes.
Overall the fairways are in good shape.
Great design.
The price. $59.99 for the holiday.
The starter was was very friendly.
NOT SO GOOD:
Many of the tees have bare spots and crabgrass. Starting with hole 1. Hole 10 is another bad one.
Many of the fringes are covered in crabgrass, Especially hole 2.
The fairway bunker on hole 3 is still in need of repair. Nothing has been done to it for years.
They spent a lot of time and money on drainage issues. But they still have problems with this on several holes still. Holes 3, 5 and 10 stand out still.
IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED:
The bunkers were not raked. They were hard packed sand.
All the 150 yard white poles have been removed. Why? Only slows down play.
Speaking of slowing down play. The pace of play was awful. No ranger on the course.
The par 3, 6th hole has no yardage markers.
I would install a cart path from the 5th green, over in front of the 6th tee. Currently, you have to drive back into the line of fire of those hitting into the 5th green,
Good course
Nice track. Enjoyed the front nine more than the back. Definitely among the top 10 in the St. Louis area.
