Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Terrible condition
75% of the greens you can’t even putt oN. Every bunker is unplayable. Place has gone downhill FAST. This used to be one of the better tracks in the metro area.
They need a sign in the pro shop or when you call they need to notify you the course is in lousy condition.
They have installed fans on most of the greens. Whoever thought of the placement of these fans must be blind. Some of them sit right in front of a green side bunker. So if the bunkers were playable, you have no shot with a 5 ft fan directly in your way. Example #2 upper right green side bunker
Also, none of the players are fixing a single ball mark out here. Every green was littered with ball marks from the hacks out here. Do your job as a golfer and fix your mark and another one. That does not happen out here.
Not sure what is going on here, but won’t be coming back here for a year or so until they can figure out the conditions.
Worst Greens of the Year
They have completely lost their greens. I can't believe it. I'm not sure if it's a fungus or a disease, but the greens are shot. They aren't burnt or under watered. They are just a mess.
The fairways were perfect. The rough was above average for St. Louis in July.
Once they get the greens back, it will absolutely be a 5 star review.
Disappointed - poor condition
On my recommendation, my friends and i decided to play Far Oaks while on a weekend golf trip to the St Louis area. The course was in very poor condition the greens were full of crab grass. The tee boxes were not much better than the greens The second tee box was the worst I’ve seen this year. I was embarrassed for recommending the course to my friends. For $50 I expected much better. Lastly, we were rushed on to the first tee box early. Then the starter sent out a 3-some and 3 consecutive 2-somes immediately after us. Of course we spent the day letting them play through. Why not pair up the 2-homes. I doubt we will be back.
Excellent layout cursed by lousy greens
Fun course, but the greens are in atrocious condition. Fairways were in good shape, and the layout makes for a fun round. Another problem was that there was an outing that started 30 minutes before we teed off, made for a longggg round. Shouldn’t have available tee times until the outing was over. Definitely not worth the price of admission. This is a $30 course at best.
What a disappointment!!!!
We played yesterday (7/22/2018) at Far Oaks. My friends and I were on a weekend golf trip to the St. Louis area. I recommended Far Oaks over some other courses because I had played there 15 years ago or so. I was embarrassed about how much I had bragged on the course. The greens were in very bad shape lots of crab grass. The Tee boxes were not much better. The tee box on the second hole was the worst I've seen this year. Lastly, we played on a Sunday morning and the starter seemed rushed to get us onto the tee box early. Subsequently, after our foursome they sent out a 3-some and the then 3 consecutive 2-somes. Why not pair up the 2-somes? Its a weekend why are they pushing out 2-somes during prime playing hours. We ended up having to let 2 groups play through. We most likely wont be back to Far Oaks
Disappointing
Normally, Far Oaks is pristine. Today, not so much. Greens were poor, tee boxes a mess, fairways were ok. For the money spent today, kinda disappointed.
Marshall
Took my group 4:27 and we were told to hurry up. Says it should take 4:30. Tee’d off relatively early and behind a twosome, but if the Marshall doesn’t understand that then I’m not sure he knows what his job is.
Always in the Top 3 in the area to play
Overall it's the course to play when you want a good outing. Rarely is this course is bad condition, if it is other are much worse.
Haven't played in a few years, they removed the GPS from the charts. Not a show stopper by any means.
If you are a weekly golfer, I suggest playing the BLUEs, the WHITE tees are very short. They are listed at 5600ish but they seem to play closer to around 5400.
I used 4, 5 and 6 iron off the WHITE tees 80%. My second shot after that were only 150-170 out after starting with irons. *why i said seems shorter*
Great course to learn how to play smart, if you pull a driver or wood out each tee box you can get into trouble quickly make this a *challenging course*
If you play smart golf it's a *moderate course*.
Great Course
Beautiful course in great condition. Some greens were a little rough due to unrepaired divots, but that isn’t the courses fault. Great course, will definitely be back!
Very Pleased
Great course nice people/staff looking forward to going back
Always in top shape
I love golfing Far Oaks. It is always well manicured and the layout provides enough tricks for experts but is not impossible for new golfers. The rough is rough, but you get true lies on the fairways and true rolls on the greens.
I like this course.
Fast greens but very consistent . Fairways are getting better. Two singles jumped in behind and in front of us on 10 tee, not a good plan.
Great course
My favorite course not a bad hole great greens beautiful farways
Far Oaks
Course is in excellent condition right now and I got a great deal on Golf Now which made for a perfect midweek outing
Would never pay full price
Greens were patchy. Bare spots around the greens. Great layout. Need course Marshalls enforcing pace of play. Bunkers were mud, truly disappointimg. Would never pay full price to play this course $60+on a weekend. Paid $30, about what it's worth.
Far Oaks
I always enjoy playing Far Oaks. Couple holes are a bit odd but fun to play. Was just surprised the course wasn’t in better shape.
Used to be my favorite course in the area...unfortunately, not any more!
Still love the layout...but the greens were TERRIBLE!
Should notify the players about condition of greens.
Also, waited twenty minutes in line to pay, computer issues. Then the starter put the group scheduled behind us in front of us, even though we were early...went downhill from there!
Not sure what happened, but hope they can bring it back...what a shame!
