Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Fun Course but not the pace
This was my first time playing Far Oaks. Overall, I enjoyed the course. There was a great variety of holes requiring some skilled shots, but still with areas of forgiveness. The course condition was ok, but the weather prior to my visit has likely contributed to it. I suspect in the next couple weeks it will be amazing. The staff in the clubhouse left a lot to be desired. The older gentleman at the desk was not friendly and didn’t provide any guidance to cart location or if we had to wait for a starter. The pace of play was slower but tolerable on the front nine. The back was a disaster. A foursome should not have had to wait on the group of two ahead of us like we did. Some monitoring to keep the pace was necessary. I plan to play at this course again.
Cold Day, great experience
I was one of 3 golfers on the course. It was pretty cold and fairly windy. I bundle up and it doesn't bother me nearly as much as slow pace of play on a warm day. This is a solid track, with a variety of challenges throughout. I didn't think the greens were in great shape. They had some crabgrass and I didn't think the ball was rolling very consistently but we've had horrendous weather so that's a factor. It's an easy drive from STL and is absolutely a course I would visit again. The prices are typically pretty high, I caught an amazing hot deal so we'll wait for that to come back.
Far Oaks March 2018
Excellent course in great condition. Greens rolled well for this time of year.
Played it many times. Have always loved playing here.
Far Oaks in February
For the end of February the course was in great shape! It had rained heavily for 3 days before I played and the course and greens drained really well. I play all over the area and Far Oaks is always on my list of favorites. Shot makers course but very fair and you can score well there.
Far Oaks Jan 31st 2018
Course was in great shap. Although the greens weren’t Green, they rolled really well. Only issue was the condition of the bunkers. Great weather day for end of January.
Not prepared for nice winter weather
We had played at Far Oaks a couple weeks back and had a fantastic time; winter golf at its finest. Yesterday, however, the weather was beautiful and they were sold out. Course still in good condition, but not so for the carts. We had TWO carts die on the course, meanwhile a line of golfers at the club house were still waiting for a cart.
1 of the Best, and greens back to awesome
Have always loved everything about Far Oaks and it's great to see the greens back to perfect shape again. Not sure what happened earlier this summer, but the greens back then were in terrible shape. Not anymore!!!! All the greens were fantastic as they usually are and expected to be. Will be back again and again to enjoy this gem.
Hole IN One #6
When I walked into the clubhouse I opened the door for Hall of famer Marcus Allen,! The young guy in proshop was very nice along with the starter. The greens were horrible, putts bouncing all over, fairways and tees in great shape! I got a hole in one on # 6, at the turn I went into proshop to see if they gave anything away for this feat, older guy was in there around 2 pm he said no and was somewhat rude!!!! It had been 17 yrs since my last hole in one at the Orchards, they gave me a nice plaque to insert ball.
Worth a return visit
My friend and I played on a Hot Deal, so the price was right; we'd never played Far Oaks before.
Unfortunately, they had just punched and sanded their greens for fall aeration, so that detracted somewhat from our experience, but you have to do that to keep your greens healthy.
I liked the course, but I did get tired of the same type of green structure throughout: every green was a forced-carry raised platform, with little or no opportunity for running the ball onto the surface. The fairways are nice and wide, with very good quality zoysia for great lies. The bunkers looked like they had not had any attention for several weeks. Note to staff: if you don't have the resources to properly care for bunkers, let them become grass bunkers. I also got tired of all the blind tee shots on the Back 9, but that's the way the course was designed. For us, this is a once-a-year course on a Hot Deal.
FIX YOUR BALL MARKS ON THE GREENS!
This is a great course that gets a lot of play, and it shows. The greens are whipped and there’s no reason it needs to be this way. Starter should educate players on what it means to keep pace of play, and how to fix ball marks on the greens. There are several that are really beat up and it’s sad because this is such a great course.
Poor greens and poor pace of play
A gorgeous afternoon for golf was spoiled by a close to six hour round. There were no marshalls anywhere to speed up play. No drink carts, either to help while away the 5-minute waits on the tee that started on the first hole and got worse as the round proceeded. Maybe that's because everyone was 3-and-4-putting the pock-marked greens where no one apparently cares about repairing ball marks.
Very disappointing round in what used to be one of my favorite courses to play on the Illinois side of the St. Louis metro area.
Disappointing
Had two groups of four, and spent over $500 and pro shop person only lectured us on pricing and on line pricing, then rented clubs and they shorted us in the set, no apologies, no thanks, rude, greens were horrible, divots everywhere, guy watering green sprayed green as we played, was a puddle, even got us wet, some water coolers were empty, holiday weekend and seemed like they it was a bother for us to be there, certainly wasn't crowded, so thought they might be appreciative we were there, very dissatisfied
Very Nice Course
The Front Nine Warms you up and The Back Nine Beats Your Brains Out. Great Layout and good conditions considering all the rain. It's a must Play. Down side course has no Marsahls and the pace of play is ridiculous . Four groups on one tee-box on multiple holes.........Really Bad Kind of ruined the round. F+ for the Course staff ...!!!
