Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

One of the areas best
What can't you say when you play Far Oaks when the season begins to blossom? I've played just about all of the public courses in a 40-60 mile radius of where I live including Annbriar, and none can boost beyond the quality of Far Oaks. If you're a golfer, and you live or visit the St. Louis Metro, by all means experience this course.
Not worth the price for the wait
Took about 5 hours for us to play... If I hadn't paid less than half price I would have asked for our money back!
Definitely one of the best layouts in the area.
This course is one of my personal favorites. The parking is spacious. The range area and practice green is in great shape. The clubhouse is well stocked and checkin staff are friendly. On the course there are numerous tees to test your skills. The surrounding views and landscape provide an occasional mental escape from the round. Call me bias but I really can't determine any negatives for this course. Go play it and see for yourself...just be careful of some of the pin positions!
Far oaks is a very good course that is right there in front of you, very few tricks.
This course is one of my favorites, it has very few, trick holes on the front 9, and gets progressively harder once you make the turn. Its a shot makers course, so bring your Iron game.
Great course and great day for golf
Far Oaks continues to be one of the Metro-East's best course. Even this time of year, the course is well maintained and there appears to be a lot of construction to futher improve the playability of course. The only issue we encountered was geese waste on some of the greens. Don't know how to fix that problem; we just moved ball to putt around it.
Nice layout but, it needs some help, like sand
Far Oaks cannot take of sand traps so now they are going to remove some. You need to go to Wisc. and check out their courses they keep a good soft 1.0 depth and below it is firm, yours are not even worth talking about. How about bare spots you have them too. For such a good layout you sure know how to screw it up. I guess idid not mention leaves, I will leave it at that.
Great course.
Fairways in good shape even with the grass changing to winter. Even with a fair amount of leaves the course was clean and greens were fairly firm but in excellent shape.
Great course, requires shot placement
I like the course, it's not just bang the driver every hole. You have to place the ball and make good shots to score.
only got 17 holes in because of start time and we were a 4 some and had to let 4 singles & 2 somes through.
Fairways had recently been aerated so we played winter rules
Still one of the best
Always in great shape, friendly staff. Difficulty depends on the tee box you choose.. pretty short from the whites, decent difficulty from the blues, and just plain long from the tips. Always a fun day on this course.
Always a great time.
Far Oaks is one of my favorite courses in the metro St. Louis area, Illinois side. It is a little pricey for my game, but I can usually find a Golf Now deal that is a steal for a course of this quality. Is one of the few public courses that has GPS on the carts. Only problem I occationally have there is busy weekends when they don't keep the tee times on time. Haven't been there at those times lately, so they may have fixed it. Will always come back.
the course is in good shape
I've always enjoyed the chance to play Far Oaks. The course is well maintained and a true test of golf.
well maintained, challenging course
one of the best overall courses in st. louis area for difficulty and value
Challenging yet fair
This course challenges the player to manage his or her play by picking the correct club and line for the shot. But unlike many courses and I'm not sure if this was the intention of the designer, Far Oaks is laid out in a way visually that most times gives the player a clear view of the line and elevation changes resulting in being able to challenge the golf course by minimizing doubt that may want to creep into your swing. It was a blast to play!
Nice Course
Not a lot of tricks, but a great shot-maker's course. Fairways and greens can be challenging to hit, but good placement comes with great reward. Course was very well-maintained, especially considering the very dry summer.
Unfriendly staff
Course marshals were rude, and one particular older gentleman was especially unpleasant. We were accused by the marshall of hitting into the group ahead of us (didn't happen), and the marshall came and told us, very rudely, to chill out or we'd be asked to leave. I will not be returning to Far Oaks.
Exellent course, fun to play
Probably my favorite course in the area. Back nine is really interesting. Some of the best holes in the state. Would be better if the first hole was reworked, par 5 that really is a long par 4. Lengthen 1 and shorten 3, just my preference. Great shape considering the hot summer we just went thru. Like most all courses these days, the traps need some care.
Looks like maintenance is slipping.
I used to love this course, but it felt like they've stopped maintaining it. Sand traps were horrible, as usual. I will not play here again this year.
an excellent public course
This course is a fantastic value and there is not an easy hole on this course. I witnessed a hole in one on a super difficult par 3 ( hole 16 ) and that was enough for me. overall this course would rate in the top 25% of all the courses that I played.
