Poor condition
The greens were in decent shape but that was the only good thing about this course, besides the staff. The course was in horrible condition and pace of play was very slow.
Bit pricey for what was there.
This is a true links course, with tight holes and an interesting layout. It was fun, played fast, and was great for my skill level (intermediate) as it's mostly par 4s with a few par 3s. However the grounds were not super well maintained (park district funding) and not a lot of amenities. Also the pace of play dragged a bit. If it were mid week, and I had paid less, I definitely would repeat for the fun. But the drive and price weren't worth the lack of upkeep and amenities for a weekend round for me when I could invest the same time driving away from the city and get so much more.
Terrible
Almost every hole is a drivable par 4 or a long par 3 that you need to use a driver to reach. Using the longest tees means you hit off a mat. I don’t think I’ll ever be back. It might be the worse course I have ever played.
Rough course
Hitting off mats for 5 holes, course is incredibly narrow, fairways are in awful condition, and pace of play is bad. Good for first-time golfers but no one else.
Do no play
The course is poorly kept and the fairway intertwine so you are bound to have a ball hit by you. Also you’re hitting off mats for 5 holes. Just awful.
Fore!
Too tight, sometimes dangerous. Too patchy, rarely a good lie.
Need better maintenance
There are many bald areas around the fairway and the tees. I had to move my balls constantly to make sure there were no rocks underneath that may damage my clubs. The ground was very dry too, which indicated that it had not been watered for some time.
Other than that, this is a good course for beginners and intermediate players who are trying to be more consistent with their games. If you miss hit the ball, most likely the ball is still in play... from an adjacent fairway.
Course needs maintenance
Negatives: Lots of bald areas, fairway and rough are indistinguishable, and ground is so dry that it’s tough to put in the tee.
Positives: great for high handicap players to learn about consistency since it’s less likely for players to lose balls
Not bad far from great
A little over priced used to be able to play this course for about half the price not sure if it flu related.
Close to Chicago. Cheap. No par 5s
If you live in the city and want to get a quick, cheap round in this is a good option. I paid 25 with cart you can practice your short game and on some holes driver.
if you wants to play blues you hit from a tee mat. Whites are grass.
The greens are big and forgiving. The fairways are wide. Not a lot of trees.
This is a park course so don’t expect a beverage cart or amenities you see on public courses but again for the price difference and location to city dwellers I’m fine losing some amenities.
Worst golf experience ever.
I’m not one to write reviews, but there is some things I wish I knew before golfing here that I will share now. Firstly, this is a Chicago Forest Preserve golf course, so I wasn’t expecting much . With that said, this may be one of the worst condition golf course in the Chicago area. It’s one of those courses where there is no indistinguishable difference between the rough and the “fairway”. The “fairway” is actually more dirt than it is grass. The hard, dry, thirsty dirt fairways are as hard as a rock. Oh, there’s also only one grass tee box. One of the only courses I know of that still uses matt teeboxes. Bad sign. All other chicago forest preserve courses removed those over a decade ago. Ok, so course quality is abysmal. The course DESIGN is also atrocious. Firstly, once you tee off on 1, you are not seeing the clubhouse again until you get to hole 18. To be clear, you do not have ANY chance to go to the clubhouse after teeing off of hole 1. There’s no water stations, beverage cart, halfway houses..etc. We walked the course on this hot Friday afternoon and actually had to hop the fence on 13 to go to a McDonalds to get drinks because we were getting so dehydrated. We called the clubhouse and offered a tip to deliver us drinks but of course to no avail. Basically, if it’s a hot day and you’re walking, you will most likely run out of water and become very miserable from the dehydration. The teeboxes and holes are setup in the worst possible way, always hitting into or near a Different holes fairway. To paint this picture, there are even some holes that share the same fairway.. I’ll let you wrap your head around that one. It’s just not right. Wouldn’t even recommend this place to beginner golfers even with how easy it is because of this reason. The only nice thing I could say about this course is the greens were in relatively good shape in comparison with the rest of this joke of a golf course. If they put half as much effort into anything else about this course, it might be a decent track.
