Great public course
Really enjoy playing at Robert Black Golf Course — it’s a well-maintained course that’s approachable but still fun and challenging enough to keep things interesting. The staff is always friendly, pace of play has generally been solid, and it’s a great spot to sneak in a round without leaving the city. Definitely a gem for Chicago golfers looking for a convenient and enjoyable place to play.
Great value, but…
This is a little gem of a course, but the bunkers need to be raked. As this is a low cost course attracting many golfers new to the game, there needs to be signs and maybe an encouraging word from the starter to have ALL golfers rake the bunkers! It’s a small thing to ask but would help keep the course stay in good shape throughout the day. Thanks!
Pleasant Surprise!
My husband & I last golfed Robt Black over 10 years ago. We were surprised how well it has aged and been improved. The greens were exceptional; fairways were well groomed (and tricky!); pace of play was well monitored and pleasant. We were paired with 2 delightful singles, each of whom added to our enjoyment. Found the course challenging for seasoned players and old duffers alike. Bonus: the fellow in the pro shop is a delightful historian and chief "joy-maker in residence." Highly recommend.
Nice Course, Very Slow Pace
First time playing and the course is maintained pretty nice. Teed off 10 minutes past scheduled tee time and had to wait on every hole. Because my tee time was 6:20pm on a Thursday, I knew it would be close to finishing the round.
Had to wait on every tee box for group in front of us. No ranger to move groups along. Our group went back and played #2 a second time and only made it through #7 before it was too dark.
Short course with many people waiting to hit driver off tee box when it's not needed, which causes the backups.

Great course for the price not too challenging for a beginner golfer like me
getting yoo expensive
now the course charges $30 walking in the weekend..I think that is over priced!
