Stonewolf Golf Club
About
Stonewolf Golf Club is one of only four courses designed by Jack Nicklaus in Illinois and Missouri and it is also one of his only public access designs. Nicklaus created a shotmaker's layout with a variety of different holes. He also incorporated his signature style of bunkering, which you'll remember for their shape, design, and placement. This is not a golf course where you'll be able to just grip it and rip it. Thoughtful strategy and careful club selection off the tees are essential for doing well. Stonewolf Golf Club opens with a tough trio of holes, ending with a short par 4 that requires a forced carry to a severe green that features a tricky elevation change right in the middle of the surface. There is also a lateral hazard on the left, and five bunkers bordering the right side.

Nicklaus St. Louis must play
As always, management does a fantastic job of keeping the facilities, course conditions and custoner service superior and in the top tier of St. Louis golf courses. One of the nicest clubhouses around, and a terrific pro shop that seems to always have amazing sales and deals- so I keep on buying goodies. Always recommend to my golfing buddies, and at minimum I play the great Stonewolf at least 1 or 2 times per month. Always look forward to coming back to this gem.
Very nice course
The course is very nice with good greens and a challenging layout. It is a good but not great value for the money.
Once great course now in disrepair.
I played this course several years ago. The layout is awesome. The back nine is super tough. Very narrow with many trees many blind shots lots of elevation changes. Now the course seems old and tired. Many ball marks on the green beer cans right off the Teebox discarded in the rough. You can tell a lot of yahoos now play this course due to the value.
Slow play
Course let out 3 twosomes on a busy Sunday. Group ahead of us would not tee off until the group ahead of them was on the green. People complained to clubhouse but a marshall never came out to speed up the group. 4 hour 45 min round of golf is way to long
Stonewolf golf experience
The course is a Nicklaus design. The fairways have challenging and strategically placed bunkers and there are hidden hazards. The greens are challenging in size, are well protected and will test your green reading skills. The terrain is undulating with lots of elevation changes and greats vistas. The course and greens are well maintained. A great golf experience. Can't wait to tackle it the second time knowing the challenges!
Keep it up
Course has been good this year. The super added several fans to keep the greens in good shape. This course is in better shape now than Far Oaks. The greens are good and being taken care of. That seems to be a problem in our area where the greens are in horrible condition at other courses.
Great Layout
Course is one of my favorites in the area. Great design and makes you use every club in your back. Played on a Saturday afternoon, so I understand the course is going to be crowded, but it took us 5 1/2 hours and didn't see a ranger once. If you are putting that many groups out - you can afford a ranger to help with pace of play. Last comment - greens are true but very slow. Probably only rolling at 8-9 (fuzzy), a course with this great of layout needs to keep the greens up to match this great layout. This experience won't keep me from playing it again, but the greens and pace of play made for a very long day..
1 of the best in metro- St. Louis
Top tier golf experience in the greater St. Louis area. The only Nicklaus course in town, and the staff does a great job of keeping the entire course in top conditions. Clubhouse and proshop are among the nicest around.
Great course
This course is in great shape greens were perfect a great value for the price
Excellent
I would definitely recommend this course. I showed up for an 8:21 Tee time. The weather forecast was saying rain, and the guy in the pro shop told me to go off immediately and beat the rain. As a 3 some we played in just over 3 hours, the way a round of golf should be played, quick and efficient. The course was in incredible shape. The green were not the quickest but true. The fairways were really nice and I enjoyed the layout. I played the blue tees and it was a lot of irons off, which is different from most courses that tend to be so long. I loved the layout, and conditions. I will definitely be back. This may be my new favorite course in the Metro-East area.
Best Course
The course is in immaculate condition from tee to green.
Challenging design but marginal maintenance
This is a great course for the $35 green fee. It is a challenging and different design. Many par 4's require an iron or rescue club from the tee. The greens were very slow but easy to read. I was surprised that on a busy day they would not have mowed the greens, raked the bunkers etc but it looks like they are cutting corners due to revenue problems. But with the current price I'll be back again!
Wet Condition
This course was in great shape considering it had over 4" of rain the night before. There were no puddles on the course, it drained extremely well.
Greens improving
I play Stonewolf often, and only complain about the greens. However; greens are in good
shape right now! Putts were rollling nicely and no real issues. My concern is they will
be chewed up or burnt by early summer. Hope I'm wrong... the rough and green collars were thick and punishing, so keep it in fairway . Bar and food shut down early?????
Excellent Golf Experience
This is a very good golf experience and should get better as the season progresses. The greens are in absolutely fabulous condition. This is a course for good players. There are very few level lies and lots of difficult sand traps. The sand traps are not in good condition and for the most part unplayable for now due to weather and early season. I know because I was in 8 of them. Location is convenient and the speed of play was excellent.
