About
Stonewolf Golf Club is one of only four courses designed by Jack Nicklaus in Illinois and Missouri and it is also one of his only public access designs. Nicklaus created a shotmaker's layout with a variety of different holes. He also incorporated his signature style of bunkering, which you'll remember for their shape, design, and placement. This is not a golf course where you'll be able to just grip it and rip it. Thoughtful strategy and careful club selection off the tees are essential for doing well. Stonewolf Golf Club opens with a tough trio of holes, ending with a short par 4 that requires a forced carry to a severe green that features a tricky elevation change right in the middle of the surface. There is also a lateral hazard on the left, and five bunkers bordering the right side.

Golfer Reviews
Challenging design but marginal maintenance
This is a great course for the $35 green fee. It is a challenging and different design. Many par 4's require an iron or rescue club from the tee. The greens were very slow but easy to read. I was surprised that on a busy day they would not have mowed the greens, raked the bunkers etc but it looks like they are cutting corners due to revenue problems. But with the current price I'll be back again!
Wet Condition
This course was in great shape considering it had over 4" of rain the night before. There were no puddles on the course, it drained extremely well.
Greens improving
I play Stonewolf often, and only complain about the greens. However; greens are in good
shape right now! Putts were rollling nicely and no real issues. My concern is they will
be chewed up or burnt by early summer. Hope I'm wrong... the rough and green collars were thick and punishing, so keep it in fairway . Bar and food shut down early?????
Excellent Golf Experience
This is a very good golf experience and should get better as the season progresses. The greens are in absolutely fabulous condition. This is a course for good players. There are very few level lies and lots of difficult sand traps. The sand traps are not in good condition and for the most part unplayable for now due to weather and early season. I know because I was in 8 of them. Location is convenient and the speed of play was excellent.
The Superb Layout
I don't think I've played a course in the St. Louis area where I can say I've walked up to every teebox and thought "dang". Gateway, Annbriar, you name it, most courses have a few holes you question the design of or a just plain. Stonewolf has excitement around every corner, and that is what keeps me coming back year after year.
Fun yet challenging
This course was fun to play with some challenging holes and blind shots but all in all I would golf here anytime
Challenging
Loved this course
Will return
Nice course
Perfect day of golf except for my score. Very nice course with some very challenging holes. The only downside was some of the greens were a little rough. Looking fwd to playing here again.
Beautiful course - bring your own water
The course is in great shape. I overheard someone complain about the greens, but other than some weed issues, they were in pretty nice condition. Rolled true with very few exceptions.
The tee boxes were well maintained and the fairways are great.
However, every water cooler on the course was empty. And this was a Tuesday. Certainly wasn't being managed well for patron safety.
Great Great Course
Me and friends play this course at least once a week if not every other work and this course is always in amazing condition and I've never seen it in bad shape. I would always recommend this course to anyone and will always keep coming back.
Great Course - Great Value
Worth the trip across the river. Weekday early morning experience was very positive. Great, receptive greens. Good to very good conditions all around - only nit to pick was the amount of sand in some bunkers,
Great Course
This is a pretty challenging Jack Nicklaus Signature course. Every tee boox was ploush. The fairways and greens were "top drawer." And the staff friendly and helpful.
I left my Garmin in the golf cart as it was hot and I was weary. They called me while I was on my way home and I had to go back to get my GPS. I appreciated the guys in the cart barn calling me the minute they found my GPS.
Well worth the wait....
It had been a LONG time between visits to this course and once the round was over, i kicked myself for taking so long to get back. This course was in great condition, especially the greens and tee boxes, they were exceptional! Staff was very nice and despite a hot day, the course had players but the pace of play was never an issue.
Highly recommend this course to anyone and enjoy the round!
Bunkers
Bunkers had no sand!! Other than that the course was in great condition. Always love playing the Wolf:-)
Excellent Course
I absolutely loved this course layout and the challenge. I played by myself and had to start on the Back Nine. I finished the back nine in 1 hour and 10 minutes. The front nine however, was backed up badly to the point a couple of foursomes quit and it still took around 3 hours and 40 minutes to finish. If the pace of play was policed alittle better I would have given this review 5 stars across the board.
