About
Stonewolf Golf Club is one of only four courses designed by Jack Nicklaus in Illinois and Missouri and it is also one of his only public access designs. Nicklaus created a shotmaker's layout with a variety of different holes. He also incorporated his signature style of bunkering, which you'll remember for their shape, design, and placement. This is not a golf course where you'll be able to just grip it and rip it. Thoughtful strategy and careful club selection off the tees are essential for doing well. Stonewolf Golf Club opens with a tough trio of holes, ending with a short par 4 that requires a forced carry to a severe green that features a tricky elevation change right in the middle of the surface. There is also a lateral hazard on the left, and five bunkers bordering the right side.

Golfer Reviews
playing conditions
The Pro in the Pro shop was not very accommodating when he saw we had an online tee time. The pace of play was brutal, 3 groups walked off before they were finished because of the slow play. The course was tough and I would love to play again under different circumstances
Good to be back out in January!
My oldest is a student golfer at Lindenwood in Bellevile, this is their home course. For January at 65 degrees, who could ask for more, well maintained and ready to play, had fun. Will do it again when the weather is good again soon hopefully!
Always Solid
We were tickled that everything was in such good shape considering the time of year we are in. Greens were rolling as well as they did all season so pleasantly surprised. Staff is always second to none so would always recommend this facility to anyone that was on the fence. Good stuff.
Great layout and test of your golfing ability
Great course with a great test. Stone wolf requires you to play all shots. Errant shots are punished while good shots are rewarded. Pace of play was sluggish at times.
Great Condition!
I had a great experience playing Stonewolf yesterday. Many challenging holes! This was very difficult for first time golfers, such as my mother yesterday. Familiarity with the course is a big benefit as both my mother and myself found trouble because of our unfamiliarity with the course. I chose to hit a driver, when a 3 wood or hybrid was needed. Furthermore, greens were in excellent condition. My only complaint about them were the abundance of ball marks. We fixed 3 each per hole, including our own. Only reason this course does not get 5 stars is the lack of marshal and beverage/snack service on the course. The pace of play was acceptable, but could have been better with a marshal keeping people on track evident by the group of 4 in front of us. They must have been playing for money or think every putt was to win The Open Championship, because they were slow. We waited 5-10 minutes the last 5 holes on the back 9. Very frustrating as we were trying to complete 18 before dark. Additionally, having an opportunity to purchase drinks/snacks would have been beneficial. Overall, I would recommend this course! Great staff, challenging holes, and great course conditions more than make up for the shortcomings.
Nice course
Great course if you like risk reward golf. Jack made sure that the average golfer would be challenged with this track. The only issue that this course has is PACE OF PLAY. This was the third time I played here and this was the worst so far (5.5 hours) to play a round. We waited 5-8 minutes per shot. Love the course but hate the down time of waiting.
Pace of Play
Tee time was 11:21 which did not happen, more like 11:45. Pace of play was bad. It took 5 1/2 hours to complete the round.
Whoa!!!
Awesome course, staff was friendly and inviting... This was first time playing and I must say it was a true challenge but not overwhelming. Very well maintained for a public facility, the only setback was I had to go to work so I couldn't go through and play it again that same day! I will surely return to Stonewolf real soon...Whoa!
Calling it my home course!
Beautiful golf course with challenging holes. I wouldn't go out if my way to pay full retail but every golfnow deal I can get here I'm doing it. Where they're weak is food and beverage. Have someone service the players on the course!
Customer friendly
was greeted courteously at front desk. the starter could not have been nicer or more accommodating. what a novel concept for a golf course, being nice to the customers. course in good shape. for me it is very challenging because all greens are protected by bunkers. when I returned cart the cart guy also very nice. this kind of stuff is huge for me. I hate going to a golf course and being treated like I am a nuisance for being there
Great Golf Day
Unlike the last review I wrote this one is a pleasure. Best thing was a 4hr 15min round on a public facility on Sunday afternoon and it could have been better if one group played a little more "ready golf".
Course conditions great even though greens were slow.
Overall, great course
Fairways in fairly good shape and the greens were rolling very well. As usual, the bunkers were relatively poor and nearly impossible to hit out of due to lack of sand.
Couples tournament right before T off
I was the next teatime after a couples tournament shotgun start. I was waiting on every hole for 15 minutes to tee off. Course was in great shape it was a lot of fun to play. However the pace of play was super slow. It would've been nice if I was informed of the tournament ahead of me before I got there.
FUN FUN Course
Lots of great holes. Very long if you are not long off the tee. Great shape.
Always Great
Course is in prestine condition with tightly cut fairways and well manicured greens. This course is definitly my fsvorite local course and I would highly reccomend it to anyone.
Will be back
Tees, fairways, and greens all in great shape and for a great price. Will be returning to play.
Love it!!!!
Great challenging course, will force you to make desicisons on layup or go for it. Make sure you know your carry distance on this course and which way the greens slope because your ball if misplaced will roll right off the green then your in trouble because the green are surronded by bunkers. Take advantage of their fly over. Worth the price if this is to much for you try Clinton Hill. Havnt played Far Oaks yet but i think is a much better course then the overrated Gateway National but Ping to Callaway compared to Spencer T.
Food deal
They had a tournament that caused the place of play to come to a slow crawl but had a go back to #1 so we were still done in 4hrs. Fun layout!
