Stonewolf Golf Club
About
Stonewolf Golf Club is one of only four courses designed by Jack Nicklaus in Illinois and Missouri and it is also one of his only public access designs. Nicklaus created a shotmaker's layout with a variety of different holes. He also incorporated his signature style of bunkering, which you'll remember for their shape, design, and placement. This is not a golf course where you'll be able to just grip it and rip it. Thoughtful strategy and careful club selection off the tees are essential for doing well. Stonewolf Golf Club opens with a tough trio of holes, ending with a short par 4 that requires a forced carry to a severe green that features a tricky elevation change right in the middle of the surface. There is also a lateral hazard on the left, and five bunkers bordering the right side.

Must Play Course
Stonewolf, for me is one of the top 5 public courses in the St Louis Metro area. Both fairways and greens are in great shape.
Good layout
There was a fivesome ahead of us which surprised me that it was allowed but no Marshall present to direct traffic
Great course
Even though the course was wet it was very playable
Stonewolf
Ever since Management put Kerry in charge here 2 years ago the course has been getting better and better. Even with the last 2 weeks of 90+ heat the course is in excellent shape and Jack himself would approve of the subtle changes being made to improve the bunkers . If you haven't played here it needs to be on your top places list soon
Good Course, Watch for Specials
A drive from St. Charles, but a solid course design. I had a Golf Now coupon that made it more of a value since I normally will not pay a $45 greens fee. This course makes the golfer shape the tee shot to navigate most of the par 4's. Greens were in great shape, just a little on the slow side. The only negative was that the bunkers were really baked dirt, not sand. Otherwise, from the appropriate set of tees, this is a solid test of golf for all but the elite players as it is only modest in length.
They do a great job at Stonewolf. Course in very nice shape and is a challenge for all handicaps. Great value!!
Fallen on hard times or what’s going on??
Tee boxes, fairways & greens OK for the most part, but cart paths are broken and crumbled and the bunkers have fallen into SHOCKING disrepair!
This once-proud gem now looks like a disheveled rundown muni track. It made me sad.
Quirky
This course requires several rounds before you would know what the do. For example, I had no idea what to hit off the first tee. It said I had 240 yards. I hit a soft drive and was 30 yds long, in rough, severely downhill lie to and uphill green. Traps were a mess. Waited on every shot on a weekday. Too much is just blind.
Very quirky opening stretch
Good golf course overall. Greens were pretty shaggy with a lot of poa. Bunkers appear to be under construction. Overall a good value. Course gets much better after the first 4 holes.
must play
great golf course .. has challenging holes and a variety of tight holes to generous landing spots.
Champion
One of the top 3 courses in the Metro East. No food available after play on a Spring day so had to go elsewhere.
Jacks Signature
Stonewolf has been getting in better and better condition in the last 2 years under their newer head pro Kerry. The grounds crew was working on reconstructing and shaping many of the bunkers and have recently airated the greens. The course with all of the recent rain should be fantastic this spring.
Very fun and challenging layout
A truly challenging course.
If you enjoy a challenging course for all levels of golfers, this course is for you. Plenty of sand in the right places, several narrow fairways, large grade changes, plenty of woods make ball placement a necessity. Have fun!
This course has a lot of Bunkers
Played this course quiet a few time still in could shape.
for being January
Must Play
woke up sunday morning to my phone ringing 6am, boss needed me to come into work on my day off. I had booked a noon tee time, went to the course expecting to be sent away. They guy behind the counter said he could get me out as i had to leave at noon. Was hoping to get a bucket of balls, but thought that might be a stretch and i would have to take the green fee i paid online as a loss. he even offered me a rain check for 9 but i said no thanks, best customer service i have ever had from a golf pro and I play 100 rounds a year.
First time playing, greens were in perfect condition for december, fairways were dormant but the lies were still great, i played rake and place in the bunkers b/c they were super wet, went out as a single and everyone let me play through, finished in under 3 hours. Even the lady at the tern was awesome.
If this course was in San francisco where I am from it would cost 200 to play and would be a 6 hour round on sunday. I am here for 6 months of work and will be back, if its this nice in December Its gotta be spectacular in the spring/summer/fall, cant wait to go back.
and thanks to pro for getting me out!
Good value
Stonewolf was fine for early November golf. GolfNow deal was to low to menation. Nice course but have played better layouts.
Great course
This is a great courser to play. It has carries off the tees and you need to make sure you hit it straight. Fairways and greens in great shape. Lots of rolling hills.
