Golfer Reviews
This place has gone downhill!
This used to be a great place to play. What happened? Rough was unkept, greens were patchy, traps were not maintained. One green had so much goose poop on it, that there was no way to putt from anywhere. This is the worse condition I have seen this course as it has gone downhill over the past 4 years. If I had paid full price, I would have really been upset, but as it was I feel I was ripped off.
In horrible condition
The course maintenance suffered last year according to the guy at who checked me in. The greens were really bad, especially on the back where they are doing work to repair them. I just didn't bother to putt on the back. The roug& was like a hay field. At $48, this was not worth it.
Deplorable conditions
The course is really in bad shape. The greens are bumpy and crowded with weeds and bare spots. The rough is way too deep and tee boxes are not good. In fairness to the golf course, these expectations were set before going out. The funding for repair/maintenance equipment was just released so it should get better. I was told that I should not expect improvements until next year. I like the layout of the course, but not likely to go back until next year.
Always Closed
I have booked this golf course and each time they have been closed, Very disappointed, we drove 40 miles to this golf course only to find it closed. Twice I booked on a Tuesday to find they are closed. Other time was on a Monday and my tee time was cancelled with no explanation.. Frustrating,,,
poor course
This was the worst goal round I have ever played. Greens were not green but mud and the rough was so long, we could not even find a ball just off the fairways. They need to shut down the course and spend some money to get it to a playable condition. Or charge discounted rate with transparency on the conditions. Will never play there again.
Tragedy
I have played this course several times over the last decade. I was deeply saddened by the condition of the course.
Greens in deplorable condition. Burnt out , gouged and some even with weeds growing in the middle of them. Rough was absurd. I know it rained a lot last week but it was evident that the rough had not been cut in a few weeks.
This course hosted the Armed Forces Championship 4 years ago and used to be a hidden gem in NE Lake County.
Sadly, no more.
Impossible Rough
The course hasn’t been mowed all year. The rough was about a foot tall and any ball that goes into it is gone immediately. We played 9 and gave up.
All roughs are 5" to 8"
All roughs are 5" to 8" if you do not hit your ball in the fairway good luck finding your ball
Garbage course conditions
If you like playing greens that have weeds, a surface that’s as smooth as a backcountry gravel road, the fringe around the entire course could use a hay baler to collect all the dead grass and burnt up fairways…. Then this is your course!!! Absolutely one of the worst courses I’ve ever played and wouldn’t recommend wasting you money nor time at this place. Definitely not going back to play this course even if I was given a free round!!!
Recently reopened and needs work.
Fair warning... They reopened the course about two weeks ago after it sat idle for months. The fairways and rough became overgrown and the greens burned out. They are trying to get it back in shape but it will take time. The rough is brutal (before we teed off, a guy warned me his group lost 19 balls on the front nine) and the greens are severely burned out in many areas. I've played this course many times over the years and love the layout so it's sad to see it in this condition. I want them to succeed but I think it's only fair to know what to expect out there.
In process of improving
Welcome to the US Open. The guy in the pro shop gave us a heads up that the course had only been open for 1-2 weeks and is playing very hard. If you don’t hit it in the fairway, the rough is very long and it takes time to find your ball. If you want to learn how to punch out to the fairway when your ball is 2 inches below the grass, this is your course. The greens are spotty, some are good, some are absolute trash and they know that and are trying to improve. Moderate your expectations here because it will be a long round if you don’t. The track is awesome and some sweet par 3s. I hope to play this course again later this year to see some improvements. Staff here is great and prices for food and drinks are affordable.
Saturday ruined
Well, it started when I was checking in to play, when the person checking me in told me that GolfNow was charging me $60, and that the course rate for that day was only $30... I tried to call Golf Now's "Customer Service".... but they didn't allow me the chance to speak to a live person, or to even leave a message for call back.
So... my tee time was for 11:37, and when I arrived I was told that it would be at least 20 minutes until I could get a cart. Oh yeah... and they had sent out the people I was to play with early... So I grabbed my putter and headed to the practice green, which was aerated, and returned to the clubhouse after twenty minutes to hear that carts wouldn't be available until 1 or 1:30.
Not a good way to waste people's time on one of the last weekends to play golf in the Chicago area. I've been a member of this site for almost twenty years, and maybe it's time to see what else is out there.
