Rain all day but I had a hot deal so no refund? If I loose fee I understand but never going the hot deal route again
Deerpath - Improving Chicago North Shore Public Option
The Good: Traditional Chicago north shore municipal course, updated recently by Bob Lohmann, is a decent parkland track that is making improvements every year. Some good mixture of Par 4's and a couple very good Par 5's that wind through large trees & subtle sand hazards. The fairways were in above average shape considering the time of year, while the small-ish greens held pretty well but were shaggy as expected. Very nice staff and fair clubhouse and pro shop. Practice facilities now include more robust driving range, short game area and putting green. Twilight rates are fair.
The Bad: Nearly $75 price tag during peak season doesn't align with course design and conditions. On-course amenities are improving with updated cart paths but still lack restrooms areas. Not enough yardage markers. Lack of diversity in Par 3's as all are long-iron shots.
The Verdict: Deerpath is a $50 course in most places in the Midwest but is overvalued given its location near Lake Forest. A good weekend hacker course that is making strides since last time I played. Some of the friendliest staff of any public course on the north shore.
Best Hole: The closing hole is a longer Par 4 with an approach to a green with lake in front and large trees overhanging.
Great
Great course and friendly staff. Play Glencoe and Wilmette but this is far and above both of them. Wilmette is having trouble with its fairways.
Great course and conditions
Very well maintained course and staff is very friendly. Greens and tee boxes are in tip top shape.
Solid Muni, great pace of play
So this isn't going to be a US Open qualifying course, but it is very playable and has some interesting holes. It is well maintained especially considering the amount of rain this area received over the past couple of weeks.
Playing on July 4th is always risky related to length of a round, but this course had many regular golfers who kept the pace of play moving quickly. We played in less than 4 hours teeing off at 9:30am.
If you are looking for a decent round of golf in the northern suburbs this is a place you should consider. While we didn't stay after the round they have a really appealing outdoor area with cushioned couches overlooking the course.
An awesome course
An awesome course. Great course to practice ypur swings. The staff was also very friendly.
Decent design; conditioning could be better
Deerpath is a decent design but the conditioning was not up to par. Several fairways are burnt out with little to no grass. Greens are very small and quite slow. Driving range was poor -- not a lot of grass and the balls are old/worn out. On the positive side, the clubhouse is very nice with a great bar and patio. Its short (6200 yards, par 70) but plays more difficult than you'd think. Some huge beautiful old oak trees. Staff was friendly and welcoming.
A Pleasant Twilight Round
Deerpath in Lake Forest is a well kept, pleasant course that is very playable for any golfer. We experienced great conditions and pace of play. The staff was very friendly. If it was closer to home, I'd play there regularly.
Pleasant Day
Book this course through Golf Now got $13 off the usual price. Normal price of $54 for a weekday is too high in my opinion. Started as a threesome but the two guys with me told me to go ahead as they did not want to hold me up. Course was in very good shape and the weather was perfect.
Nothing too tricky on this course, actually it is kinda vanilla. Only thing to worry about is the long par 3s.
Nice coures/great.
The only thing the green to bed not to smooth I steel got birdy n Parr.
Maybe I'm coming back for next round.
Delusional
I decided to give up after nine holes
due to the course conditions. I play with a friend at a different course every week on Tuesday or Wednesday in with the regular group on Sunday mornings. This course by leaps and bounds is in horrible shape and the reason I titled the review delusional is the staff thinks that a $30 per player rate including a card is good value on a Tuesday. This was true a few years ago. However, in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago There are courses that are less money and in far better condition. By all means avoid this golf course.
Unable to play
Sadly they had a tournament which was a shot-gun, so I was only allowed to play after 2 PM. I found another course in the area, which was comparable, yet cost 33% less!
This course if fun to play
The weather was perfect, the course a little wet, but
drove careful as not to ruin the fairway.
Craig, and the staff at the club house are very pleasant
I hope that after golf season they will repair and fix the golf paths. Looking forward to playing Deerpath Golf Course every chance I have.
Good experience
Course is in great shape. We had a GREAT time!
Decent course, sloooow play
The course was in pretty good condition overall, except for a few areas that were dried out or under repair. Layout is a little boring, not many really interesting holes but some good challenges. Pace of play was pretty atrocious. Waited on nearly every single shot and it took almost five hours to play 18. There seemed to be no enforcement of pace of play on a Saturday late morning round. The course was not special enough to go back at nearly $60, and too slow to go back at just about any price.
Good Time!
Beautiful course, would recommend it to others. Will definitely be back.
OK but BEWARE!
Ok course but no ranger working after noon on weekends; they let people tee off starting at back nine so long wait after the turn! If you are wanting to keep pace, forget it. I reported it to the office not he didn't seem to care. Not rushing back!!
