Nice course, good value. Very slow play
Nice course, good value. Very slow play though, some beginners groups
Challenging course
Lots of opportunities for losing strokes, trees, water, unplayable roughs. Greens were smooth, but slow due to overnight rain. Slow play on front due to junior golfers, no ranger, and no organized starter. Front 9 took 2.5 hours, back 9 less than 2.
No beverage cart.
Fairways Helped My Iron Game
Although a higher fee to play 18 than my usual courses, I truly enjoyed playing Deerpath. The course is not overbooked, so it moves at a good pace. Also, needing to work on my irons, Deerpath has soft and forgiving fairways for lifting the ball and getting good distance on it. I plan to return again before the summer is over.
Great value for decent course
Course is pretty well maintained especially for the price. Staff has always been great and pace of play is usually pretty good.
Okay, but slow.
We had a fairly pleasant experience at Deerpath. The staff was great, the conditions were good, but the pace of play was rather disturbing. It is a park district course of great quality, but it draws the local kids who don't have a clue about pace of play and etiquette on the course. We had to wait on virtually every shot, and were hit into from behind from eager youths.
Great value, not hard but not easy, pace of play is terrific
I was able to get a foursome with carts for $44 per person on a Sunday at noon, one day in advance. I have played the course once or twice, but none of my partners had seen it. It is a nice parkland course that is tougher than the scorecard shows. It seemed longer than the 6200 it says on the card. It was in very good condition for a public course at that price. The greens were challenging, but thank heavens they weren't too fast. Just right. You will probably see a couple deer on the course greeting you on a tee, which was fun. The absolute key to playing the course is to be in the fairway, not because the rough is too long, but you will not have a clear shot into the green due to the trees. The ONLY minor complaint was from the one woman in my group. The red tees at times are only a couple yards from the tips, especially on the par 3's. Other than that, we had a very enjoyable day. The pace of play was spectacular for a public course on a Sunday. 4 hours on the nose. My regular course would have been a MINIMUM of 4:45, and it is the same yardage (un-named, but it is south of Deerpath about 10 miles and begins with W). It was a very steamy day and I think we saw the beverage cart every three holes, which was perfect. And she was very friendly. Get up to Lake Forest. Very pretty and a great course for the price.
This course is good for novice players, staff is not very friendly and they overcharged me.
I was very disappointed with the staff, they were not very helpful or friendly. There were no rangers to help keep up the pace of play. And I did not recieve the Golf Now price which was supposed to be $34.00. They charged me $39.00 plus I had to pay Golf Now the $1.99 on top of it. So I am not happy.
Beautiful course, comparable to the best I've seen nationwide.
Well maintained and very friendly. Staff and guests made my first visit seem like I was playing the hometown course. Definitely a value and a reasonable challenge.
Great experience over-all
I play about 70-80 rounds a year and never played Deerpath. I booked it alone and had a great experience. Course was in great shape staff incredibly friendly (everyone). I plan on playing more often. A.Medina
Overpriced much?
Holes are pretty close to each other. Greens were maintained. Price is about $10-$15 more than last year, no idea why, I would most likely not come back out here paying the price they want to charge.
Good course, excellent value!
This is one of my "go to" courses when I'm looking to play North of Chicago. Course is always in good condition, and pace of play is generally good.
Always like playing Deerpath.
Not particularly long, but sneaky hard, and very walkable. Played on an early April Friday and got a great rate ($30.00). Grass driving range is a big plus.
To Pricey!!!
The reason I give an overall 3 star and would not recommend to a friend is because of the steep rate. It is a descent course but not worth paying $50+. They need to lower the price.
Cost vs. course
You totally get your money's worth. Course is very nice. Even at the end of the season. I can only imagine during regular season. Can't wait to go back then
The course was fun and good condition.
For the money a great value. I couldn't believe how the greens were in great shape and the overall condition for this time of the year. 11/17/12
Tricky greens.
Not a bad course to play provided you get a good deal on the greens fee.
Deerpath GC is a nice place and a good value if you live on the North Shore.
The Staff were friendly and the coarse was well groomed for late season play. Great value when booking through Golfnow.com. Some of the fairways were a little tight on some holes, but most were very fun and interestingly laid out, and not a total ball buster. Very scenic and peaceful, I would defiantly play this coarse again.

Old style course. Small greens. Tree lined fairways.
Tight layout. Tree lined. Fairway shots critical. Trees punish bad shots.
