Big Run Golf Club

Not a bad course. Difficult to find ball at times due to lack of mowing on some holes. No driving range which is a big miss. A little outdated.

I have played this course twice and I think it has a good mix of obstacles - mostly trees and water - and plays long. The course has been around for a long time and you can tell that at one point it was probably a high end course. While it is still in fairly good condition, the tee boxes are uneven, the tee boxes and fairways need to be cut, and there are a lot of dry spots on the course (which is strange because the course is pretty wet). Overall, I only paid $40 for the round because of discounts I had, but if the course is asking you for $75 I do not think that is good value. The course did a good job of spacing groups at the tee box so there was no need to rush or end up sitting around waiting on the group in front of you.

Best part of the course were the greens and tee boxes. They were in great shape. After that, everything else could be improved. Couldn’t really tell where the fairways ended and the rough began. sand traps could use sand and not dirt and rocks. 90+ degree day and no beverage cart on the course on a very busy day and no water fountain or well to fill water bottle up. One water cooler on hole seven that was empty by the time we reached it. Quit after 9 holes because of heat, pace of play. Course could be real nice if the maintenance to fairways and sand traps were improved. Challenging layout, but not really worth the price.

The area did not get any rain, but we were told to adhere to the 90 degrees rule out on the course. The first hole had two signs posted: 90 DEGREES and CARTS IN ROUGH ONLY. We utilized the 90 degree rule to get to my ball, but the Ranger came over to us and asked if I knew how to read. I said, “Yes I do. We went 90 degrees to my ball.” “The sign says Carts in Rough Only, I guess you can’t read”. “If I see it again, your round is over and I don’t care if this is only the first hole.” Rude, ignorant and very unprofessional. Will NEVER play Big Run again.

Have to play Big Run once a year. The rough is like US open rough. Tough to play out of.

Staff is not helpful, not kind and very rude.

Beware if you use a hot deal, you’ll need to share your cart. I found that to be very awkward and not what I expected. No one does that, especially with a fleet size of a dealership…. Sharing is not ideal.

Course conditions were not the greatest, the rough was not maintained, too high felt impossible to hit out of.

They love using that green spray on the course… my shoes were all green.

played Big Run 6/8/24 @11:20. Course is difficult to begin with so why have 4-6" rough? All it does is slow the pace-of-play. My foursome spent, on average, 10 minutes on every par 4 and par 5 looking for tee shots that we knew where they were hit. Very frustrating, can't imagine what the group behind us thought! But wait, they were searching for balls also!

The course was in good shape except for the rough. There is no “1st cut” and the rough is about 2” high. The grass grabs the clubhead making shots out of the rough much more difficult. There are a number of elevated greens so add distance to whatever you think the correct yardage might be. Have fun in the two 570 plus par 5’s.

The problem with the rough being so high, you can spend an extra 30-40 minutes a round looking for balls that you have to literally uncover to reveal.

Great layout and each hole has huge challenges. Hard to find a ball in the rough.

Sand traps were big but in bad condition.

For the first time playing this course I was impressed with the conditions and course layout. The course provides a fun challenge with lots of elevation changes. It's a nice change from lots of flat courses in the area. If you haven't played I encourage you try this course!

This course layout is unique to the Chicagoland area with lots of undulation and unique golf holes. Every hole has lots of character. The maintenance team was hard at work right in front of me as I was the first tee time of the day. I would recommend playing this course if you haven't. The staff was super friendly as well!
