Great Local Course
We've been playing its next door neighbor Countryside a lot the past few years, which we enjoy a lot, so almost forgot about Steeplechase. But for a few more bucks this was a step up well worth the difference in price. Considering all the wet weather lately, this course held up well, with fairways and greens in tremendous condition. Will play again soon!
Unforgiving Greens
Steeplechase is a very enjoyable golf course and experience. There is great variety in the holes. It is challenging, think target golf, and fairly tight. The greenside bunkers are large, in good shape, but require finesse to exit accurately. The greens are massive and rarely flat, making for some adventurous putting with usually frustrating results. I've never had so many putts break at the last minute and avoid the cup. The fairways are in good shape but the rough is often dry, bare, and hard. Pace of play was excellent. I look forward to taking on this challenging course again.
Super fun and always in pretty good shape!
My brother in law and I played at 7:20 and we were paired with two others. They were really nice guys but to be honest, they were a bit slow. To begin the round we waited on the 1st tee for the 4th to arrive which threw us on the clock right off the bat. Not a fun experience knowing that the moment we teed off we were already 10+ minutes behind pace. We were instantly notified by looking at the gps screen. While the screen which was mounted at the bottom of the windshield was accurate and pretty much right on when it comes to distances but it said we were behind the whole front 9.
We would finally catch up to the players in front of us on 11 because on the 10th tee box the ranger separated us from the group (the other 2 some) that we started with and we would now be a 2 some ourselves. While they thought that was a solution it was anything but a solution. Obviously, this act of stupidity made it a slower more waiting type of round once we got split up. It basically just added another group to the course causing the rest of the day to suffer from a stupid mistake made by the ranger and the gps in the carts. While the gps doesn’t make decisions it makes people make really dumb decisions which is exactly what happened. Thanks for making a slow round even slower. FYI we teed off at 7:20 am NOT 3:30 pm.
Nice course
Very nice public course with not overly challenging where your get frustrated, staff I’d professional and courteous
Always Solid
As is usually the case, Steeplechase delivered as an always high quality venue for Sunday morning golf. Fairways were in great shape, greens were quick and true, bunkers in great shape. The course is great because you get rewarded for quality shots but if you hit it crooked you will pay the price. Pace of play was excellent.
Steeplechase is always in my rotation as a top place to play.
Quality course
Tee boxes pretty chewed up. Didn’t see the cart girl until I was coming off the course at 11:30 on a 80 plus degree day. Other than that, challenging course in good condition.
Steeplechase 18
I hadn't played Steeplechase in many years, though I enjoyed previously. While looking to play a Monday round when my regular course is closed, it gave me a good test of where my game is at. The course was in really good shape, the greens were consistent and the holes offered variety. The pace was a bit slow on the front 9, with one group of 3 not understanding keeping up. But, after playing through at a par 3, it got better. The staff service was good.
Great course
Greens are challenging and require soft hands. Great layout and conditions. Definitely a course to keep in rotation if you’re looking to improve your game.
Great course feels like a private club
Course was in great condition. Staff is super friendly. Felt like I was playing a country club.
Fix your greens
Trying to be fair but , I've been playing golf for 50 years and have never seen greens in illinois where the poa is as bad. Played last in August and thought it was an issue and it is even worse now which is shame
Course layout great, staff great and the rest of the course was very good. Cart path only and we still played in 3:50
Going to give them one more try in July and see if there is any improvement. If not , won't be coming back.
I brought 2 guys who neve played here and the first thing they said - what's with these greens
