Great value
One of my favorite places in Lake County to play.
Excellent layout and friendly staff. Pace of play could use some improvement. Generally takes 4.5 to 5 hours during the week to get around. Course is in good, not great shape. Overall a great way to spend a day..
March 2019
Carr path only. Course still brown; but greens and fairways are very playable
Very tight difficult course. Not much forgiveness around green or off tee
It's a nice course to play if you can get a special rate. The regular rate is a bit high for what you get. I played in late October and they are pretty much shutting down for the season but the course is still in good shape. My one complaint is that the area around the clubhouse is very poorly designed and very congested. The practice putting green is so tilted that it is unhelpful.
Sunrise golf
7:00 am tee time after some rain. The course was a little soggy but you can’t control the weather. Course has a great layout and is not overly difficult. Other than it being wet the course was in good condition. We cruised through 18 in 3:15 hrs but we saw a bit of a back up on hole #1 at the turn and then again when we ended. It was turning out to be a nice October day and everyone was trying to get out. I will happily return for a round.
Rude staff punched holes
Great course would been nice to know in adavance the course was punched lots of other great golf courses around too very rude starters I felt like I got scammed
Very nice and challenging course
Pleasant round on a beautiful Summer Day. Will definitely test different parts of your game off the tee, in the fairway and especially around the greens. Chipping and putting from above the pin very hard. Some course familiarity should help with right club selection (to minimize these instances).
A little on the slow side, but that’s to be expected on a Saturday. Especially when people are playing the wrong tees or not prepared with an extra ball when their 1st shot goes into the water (LOL).
A couple suggestions for management:
- fix up the hitting nets. In pretty bad shape with bad balls, no tees, no targets. That can’t be that expensive.
- The gas engine carts are very noisy. Its a shame to have to hear that against the beautiful natural sorroundings. Every golfer announcing themselves on each hole/shot. Electric carts would be much quieter (and cleaner).
Greens Are DECEPTIVE!!
This was by far one of the most challenging courses I've played. The course layout was nice, but it was once you got to the green. If you didn't land your ball below the hole and you were putting from the top or sides, the ball would just run past the hole and it was hard to determine the break on side putts. Putting is usually my strong part of the game, but I never made so many 3 putts in any round. In addition they have some Par 3's that fly over water which is always fun besides many strategically placed bunkers that are hard to avoid if you don't plan your shot well. Lastly, the picturesque 18th hole with water guarding the approach from the right made this a fun hole to close out the round especially with the wind kicking up. The onboard GPS gave exact measurements from where you are to the pin, plus it is interactive that you can select points on the hole to find distance from where you are. Really didn't need to use my laser finder. I've been wanting to play Steeple Chase for some time and it didn't disappoint. The only drawback I saw was that there wasn't signage really directing you to holes especially when you made the turn as to where the 10th hole was. Also one other nice thing was that they had two bays with nets that you could get some swinging practice in before your round besides putting. Looking forward to playing again now that I know the secret to the greens.
Really fun course.
We played this course at the twilight rate and got through the 17th hole before it got too dark to see. This is a really nice course that fits in well with the surrounding courses. There is a nice variety of holes and a lot of interaction with water. The course is not heavily bunkered but a few of them are MASSIVE (especially 14). For a municipal course, it is well maintained. Were a lot of coolers with ice water on the course which is always appreciated. There was no range, but nets were provided to allow for warmup. The course next door has a nice range if needed. Will definitely play this course again!
Course was in overall decent shape however greens were top dressed and it was a pain with sand collecting on ball every putt. I was told greens are top dressed every two weeks so that is a pretty regular thing. Also course was really firm especially the rough. Overall course is good but I think it's over priced especially week day fees. Weekends forget it I would never pay that fee for this course. Have played courses this year with better conditions and price.
One of the best Chicagoland public golf courses!
I don’t get to play this course very often and every time I do it is one of my favorite experiences of the golf season. I highly recommend it to any and all caliber players. It is a great layout And is interesting and fair. Always kept in a plus shake shake shake shake by cond always cup in a+ condition.
Feel good course
If you are looking to gain confidence in your game, play here. Manicured well, moderately fast greens, large greens, challenging enough to have fun yet great course to score well
Challenging Course
Really enjoyed the course, the challenge of it - Course was in great shape and the greens were quick.
Very nice public course with some challenging holes.
Short but sweet
This course isn’t really long which is a stupid comment for a guy who struggled to get 270 out of his driver but strangely I’m used to it. It’s a nice course with some great par 3s and reachable par 5’s. If you stay within yourself and wave the beer girl off when things get hairy you can score well here. If you’re not a resident of Mundelein you’ll pay more than average for this course but it is well kept with nice greens.
