Tough Greens
Course was in excellent shape playing fast and firm. Greens were fast and challenging.
Pace of play was great. Played late afternoon and got around in 3.5 hours.
Friendly staff serving a cold brew for the 19th hole overlooking the course. Great end to a fun round.
Excellent Round
Steeple Chase was in excellent condition. Greens were superb. Except for slow play a few groups ahead, excellent all around.
Good times
I really like this course but slightly overpriced on weekends, I played after 3pm so It was more reasonable. GPS on carts is nice and the pace was decent, could use some rangers out there to help speed it up even more.
Great shape
Steeplechase is in mid season form with well groomed fairways and moderately thick rough. We played in less than 4 hours without waiting for slow play ahead. Greens were particularly challenging to read and gauge speed. They are faster than other courses played in the area.
Great Find...
Course was in excellent condition with some challenging holes, tee shots and green complexes. Greens rolled very nice and the tees and fairways were excellent. People seemed very nice as well. Would have been good to know they have a senior rate which was significantly lower than what we paid on GolfNow.
Super wet and tons of gnats
Course was soaked, and multiple puddles everywhere, due to the rain. The entire back 9 was almost unplayable due to the gnats/insects.
Very target-golf on most holes. Second time around the course would be much easier to play.
Bad Apples Spoil the Bushel
Bought a Golf Now deal at this course, and then had a meeting come up a couple of hours after the tee time. I guess it is a thing now where people get the Golf Now times and show up when they want. Got read the riot act and then was allowed to change my time for an upcharge.
Otherwise, course was great and will definitely play there again.
Nice layout in great condition. Slow 4some in front of us, but otherwise we had a super time. Greens were in great shape.
All in all, we had a wonderful time. I'll be back !
SteepleChase review
A great variety of holes; mid iron to hybrid for par3’s, Par4’s have both length and accuracy holes, not just for long hitters. 3of the 4 par5 were 3 shotters , all with different dogleg directions. Course is kinda wide open off the tee, but the green complexes are challenging and very fair. Only issues was the fertilizer on greens with aerated greens and wet conditions really will try your patience. Staff was nice and friendly and favorite hole was 10, very picturesque.
Course is always in great shape especially the greens. Steeple Chase has the best value around when you compare the rate you get and the quality of the course you're playing. I would reccomend this course to anyone as it's one of the best if not the best golf course in the area.
Great course
This has got to be the best park district course that you’ll ever find in the area.
Steeple Chase
Fantastic course and staff was great. No driving range. Over looked that because this course was a real gem. Quick greens and in great condition. Pace of play could have been little better. I blame it on being behind foursome that had no business on an am tee time. 4:30-5:00 hr round with no one in front of you is unacceptable. Can’t wait to play again.
Best course value in the northern IL area. Hands down.
I love this course. Every time I play at another course, especially when I play at other expensive courses, I love this one even more.
They have the best greens I've ever played on because they're mostly flat and slope but make all putts challenging with fast green speed. You can one putt as easily as you can three jack on the green!
The landscape is beautifully done and makes it challenging, especially if you're chipping downhill. The traps are perfectly placed. The fairways aren't crowded by huge, branchy trees. The dog legs of the fairways are normally 200-250 out, and most of them aren't sharp. As a guy who can drive 250-300 depending on wind conditions, this plays perfect for me. It's fun to try and hit a draw over the trees. Because the tree density isn't as high as a lot of other courses, it's pretty easy to find your ball.
The onboard GPS is a godsend. It's very accurate and it really helps me play my best round.
Generally speaking, the average group that you're golfing around are friendly and relaxed. You don't feel pressure if you fall behind pace because of a bad hole or anything like that.
Overall, to me it doesn't make sense to play at a slightly cheaper course and sacrifice the quality that you would get here @ Steeplechase.
