Foss Park Golf Course

Golf and the course seems to be of secondary interest to some of the staff. Course played well on the day I went even after some seasonal rain. Pace of play was a bit of an issue on the front nine. Had to go back and replay a couple of holes due to backups. Weather was in the high 40's, but little wind so was playable. Good course to walk and the price was right for end of the season play. Greens and tee boxes were in good shape and several ball washers were full. Course requires some management, but a good layout to try many shots. Plan on returning next year.

I have played this course about 5 times and on every round but one the pace of play is ridiculously slow. No course ranger to try and speed it up and it seems as though they are never organized or communicate as to why the back nine is always backed up with 2-3 groups waiting everytime. The staff is usually pretty friendly but need to do their job to stop the slow play. Tee boxes were very soft and the fairways were average at best. Too many holes have tight tree lined fairways where it is very hard to find your ball which adds to slow play. Will not be returning to this course.

I went to this course to play blue tee box but tuff luck I had to play white tee with beginners.

There was a six some in front of us from the second hole on and the staff did nothing about it!!!

course was ok given dry conditions as of late. However greens were very slow and bumpy. No excuse for this mow them roll them topdress them do something they are large enough to have no excuse for play or any issues for wear. need to make them better as it is a good course.

Temps ranged from 68 to 73 F during play with winds under 10 mph. Course was a little wet for the first few holes and then the sun dried it out quickly. Not too much evidence of flood damage from early in the summer. Pace of play was a little slow especially on the front nine, but quicker on the back nine. Greens were in good shape and course presented some challenges, but mostly had broad, clear fairways. Best change they made was to forgo the $2 deposit they previously required for the carts. That made the round a lot more pleasant.

This course lulls you into a false sense of security with the first three holes, which are not challenging, then surprises you with back-to-back par 4s that test your ability to hit it straight down the fairway. Wide fairways (in many cases) provide bailout room for the high-handicapper, but at least six of the holes offer a tight tree-lined test.

Great course for the price. Can't be beat! A hidden gem in North Chicago.

Got a 3;27 tee time, but they let our a league early and wee had to wait and start on the back 9. how do I get a 3:27 tee time and told you start the league early?

Foss has always been an outstanding value with a greet staff. Tee times are spread out so the is very little wait time at each hole.

Course is always in excellent condition. Biggest issue is the very slow pace of play. Many players spend excessive time searching for balls in the woods and creeks. This causes major backups and takes away the rhythm of normal play. Players should be reminded to keep pace when approaching first tee.

I always enjoy coming to Foss Park. The course has a lot of mature trees and a mix of semi tough to moderately easy holes. Fro a Park District course, it is in phenomenal shape. Our foursome had a great time, capped off with a hole in one on 11.

Great value for money. Friendly helpful staff . Course in great shape.

Course was ready to play but, restrooms were closed so my wife who needs to use restroom while out on the course was in a poor situation more than once. Made it through front nine but had to run back to clubhouse while out on the back could not finish course and was very unhappy as it effected he ability to play golf! Unfair to say the least. Course was in decent shape but amenities like both sets of bathrooms to be closed was unfair to say the least. Also on a very warm day water coolers were out of water? How hard is for staff to check them and keep them full for golfers to stay refreshed and have water! Also bad customer service and safety on a very warm day! But with bathrooms closed I guess they wanted you not to need to use the bathroom? Sad for a decent layout in reasonable condition to do this to people who would expect more!
