Reviews
Fast greens, heavily wooded, great condition
Built on the Illinois River bluff in Pekin, Illinois, the course is heavily wooded with deep ravines and picturesque vistas. What surprised me the most was how well manicured the entire course was. The fairways showed nary a blemish, the greens ran fast and true (one green had a shallow cut across the entire surface that deflected a putt that still went in), and, in spite of the season, very few leaves affected our play. Make sure you review the layout. There are a couple of blind approaches and one that can tempt you to aim far afield!
Skip hole 6
This course can wear you out mentally, There are so many trees, blind shots and huge greens that keep you thinking. Plenty of blind shots for first timers, play here a couple of times and learn the short routes .
Challenging
I have about Lick Creek for a while. Got a hot deal for $36 on a Sunday. I love the course, some elevation changes. Very large greens, fast greens. You use every club in your bag here. I will definitely come back , it was worth the hour and a half ride down .
Unbelievable
Great course. Challenging, and in great shape. Bentgrass fairways are unbelievable. Even the tee boxes were in great shape. You could almost putt on them.
Loved the course.
Great value and challenge
This is one of the toughest courses in central IL and always well maintained.
Great looking golf course
Lick Creek is in excellent shape. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I had not played here for a couple of years, but I will be back soon.
The greens are fast, and so there are quite a few divots, though everyone was trying their best to repair ball marks.
I rated it moderate because of several very challenging holes. Otherwise, it was a beautiful walk in the woods.
Best muni in central Illinois
For as good of a course as Lick is, it does not get enough credit as one of the elite courses in the Peoria area. It’s challenging but incredibly fair. For every ball you hit OB (for me quite a few) you usually have a chance to make it up and save par or bogey. There’s not a boring hole Out there and it is incredibly well manicured for a park district course. In my opinion it’s a better course than Weaver Ridge and it is right up there with Coyote Creek. Definitely worth checking out for the price and convenience of location.
Tough course
My third time playing this course. I find it very challenging but yet really enjoyable. Pekin should be proud to have such a wonderful golf course.
Lick creek
Course was in great condition. Sand traps need so.e work, greens were pretty slow
Odd layout but well kept
The layout is odd, with more than a few holes where you’ll lose a ball with a perfect drive because they don’t give you yardages from the tees and/or you can’t see the landing areas. The greens keeper does a fantastic job, though, with what he’s working with. It’s hard not to let the 4/5 poorly designed holes affect the overall experience, but I still think it’s worth the $20 hot deal. Don’t expect much from the clubhouse. Really Nice putting green.
First day out in 19
Course was in great shape. Range and putting greens were packed full, but people moved through pretty quickly. Definitely a great value at the GolfNow price!
I Love Lick
Best bang for the buck in central Illinois! Freshly aerated greens made putting somewhat tricky, but we love Lick Creek and play it as often as we can!
