Nice course
Not a long course. Lot of shorter par 4's. Course was in good condition but more than a few greens had non repaired divot marks. Staff was friendly but we didn't interact with them too much. My only complaint was pace of play. My twosome was stuck behind people all day. We would wait at each tee box for 3-5 minutes just waiting for the players ahead of to tee off. They were waiting for the people before them. It didn't seem like there were a lot golfers there but we were all bunched up. Seemed odd this would happen at a course with 27 holes.
Great Value / Friendly Service
I've played Carrilon since it's opening....almost every year. Took a year off last year. This summer the tees/fairways and sand traps are in very good shape....the greens while maintained (I didn't have to repair many ball marks) were fairly bumpy and slow in comparison to other courses in the area....thus the overall average rating. Would be 4 stars but the greens and the generally flat land.....lots of dirt was moved to build this course bring it down a notch. The Links are absolutely worth a visit at least once a year and with the green fee of $25 via golfnow it's a very good bang for your golf buck.....play can be very slow on weekends and we were lucky to play during the week and caught a gap in the tee sheet....but were still slowed by a 4-some on back nine....and our 4 hr round would have been close to a 5 hr round if we had teed off directly behind this group.
3 sets of 9 holes to play...neat variety
nice course, nice staff. front 9 (red course) nice section with good variety of holes and challenges. back 9 (white course) is pretty challenging with some nice holes and a great finishing hole called the gauntlet! would play definitely again!
Course is always well maintained
Links of Carillon always looks great. The entire complex is well maintained. However, many of the carts didn't have GPS, and those that did looked like it was jerryrigged. I have to assume that the are doing a conversion to new carts or a new GPS system. Also, there were numberous fresh ball marks on the greens. Come on, golfers, fix your marks! The group ahead had two walkers. I'm not sure what they were thinking because they would walk on a 90 degree from their ball then walk down the cart path. They walked a lot longer than they needed to, and this naturally slowed them down. After their 4th holes, they were walking a more direct path to their ball.
Really nice shape.
These guys keep their three nines in really nice condition. The weather has helped them, too. We played the Blue course; nine holes.
The course was uncrowded and played fast. We only played nine this day, but it plays fast most days. The price is right, too.
Great Golf Facility
I've now played all three of Links courses at Carillon. All three were in great shape and well taken care of. A few of the bunkers could have used some TLC but other than that, I have no complaints. A fair course with some challenging holes. Sand haters BEWARE!
Course in beautiful shape and very well maintained, except .......
As noted in their 2013 plans, sand traps and cart GPS are in need of attention. One of the fairway traps I played out of was really a dirt trap with pebbles. The cart GPS unit went blank repeatedly throughout the round, but everyone else had smart phones so no worry.
Fairway and green condition and cut were excellent. Course remains a gem and a bargain at the price of green fees.
I'll be back.
great value
great value and pace of play was great, corurse was in excellent condition
Great course for the money
Not too tough, not too easy. Great golf course and you must play 18th hole on white course. It is their signature hole. When you play it, you know why.
Awesome.
Very Nice course to play
The fairways were in great shape bunkers look amazing, dont know how they were to hit out of i was never in one. The greens were a little different. It was my first time playing there but to me greens were challenging and running very fast to got get a read on the greens at all, maybe nextime.. The food at the turnaround well pack a lunch or just get a hot dog, i dont think they know what a brat is.... awful...
80%
80% of the coarse is good. The only issue are the sand traps, but it looks as though they are working on them.
I've always liked this course
I've been playing Carillon for a few years. It's a fun course to practice and try out new things on. My favorite thing is you can play without a driver and still score just fine. #9 on the white course is a cool finishing hole. The pace of play can get long in the tooth sometimes but that seems to happen everywhere. I will put in 3 - 4 rounds a year here.
Slow Play Ruins this Course
The staff I dealt with were super friendly. Practice facility was ok.. putting green and chipping area were very nice. Received 2 stars because the pace of play was super slow and there was nothing done about it. I walked on as a single because the pair I was suppose to play with didn't show up. I played the 1st hole without seeing anybody, and from there I ran into group after group after group. By the time I get to the 5th hole i decided to just get off the course. It wasn't worth it for me to just sit. Could have been avoided with groups playing different tracks (three 9 hole courses on property). But instead everybody played Red to White while Blue was wide open. After complaining about the slow play they sent me to the blue course and I didn't see one group my whole trip out there. Probably won't return.
The course is in great shape.
The course is in great shape, including the bunkers, Kudos to the Groundskeeper. The greens were rolling true and after all the recent rains, the course is in great shape. With three nine hole options, the course is typically a very good value and you have to make shots to score well. The staff on the course were very friendly and help you want to come back.
Fun shots course
This is a Links course that allows for a not so accurate golfer to hit the fairway pretty easily and when you don't you usually still have playable shot. It has undulating fairways and greens. Good mix of par 3's 4's and 5's. I bet the greens will play pretty fast come summer time. @ $35 for 18 and a cart it was well worth the $$ spent. You cannot walk this course there are a few holes that you have to travel about a mile between holes. Well maybe not a mile, but it is pretty far. Played the Red/White courses.
Nice course to play a link style
Three 9 hole courses to play, each different. Even after the heavy rains this past week course was dry and playable. Large greens in good shape. Cart paths are still being improved.
Course in fine early spring form.
Early April in northern Illinois is usually a funky time for golf. But the folks at Carillon are doing things right. We had a worry free round on a surprisingly smooth playing surface, both fairways and greens. Keep it up.
