The bunkers
I think the upkeep in most of the Billy Casper managed / Cook County golf courses is what keeps the courses from being really good courses.
I used to be a reasonably decent bunker player, but how to you play out of cement - rock solid bunkers?
Nothing special
Course has potential. Bunkers are pretty terrible. For price I guess it's not to bad.
Nice course
The course is not easy. It was in very good condition. Pace of play was slow... Rangers on the course could've helped.
Staff was very polite and helpful!
Practice course
This course is good for practice but not for a great round of golf. For $25 for 18 holes you get what you pay for. Concessions was horrible...no food ready to eat at 2pm on a Sunday. Will never go back there...
Employees
Girl at reception couldn't be nicer, guy running around playing in front of people should find more work to do
Excellent Experience
Awesome day, great conditions and the staff was super nice. Amazing value for a well kept track.
We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed your round at Joe Louis, we look forward to having you play again soon!
Great value next to the city
great value, high rough, fast carts, too many lost balls close to fairway bc of rough, large green complexes with undulations, bad pin placements making certain holes funhouse-ish, forgiving fairways, close to city
you are right! Carts are EXTREMELY fast! Makes it fun getting around quickly!
Okay course terrible pace of play
The course overall was in okay shape. Greens were slow because they haven't been mowed, but overall decent. The fairways had some minor bad spots here and there. The bunkers were terrible they were dried mud no sand. The pace of play was the worst I have ever experience a +5 hours round!!!!!! I think it was better pace of you get there before 8.
Good course to work on your swing before 8
Thank you for your feedback. We experience a high volume of play on weekends with particularly nice weather which tends to lead to a slower pace of play than is usual for the course. We understand pace of play is a vital part of an enjoyable round and are working on different strategies to pick up the pace on busier days. We aim to provide each guest with an enjoyable experience and look forward to having you back to play another round soon!
Disappointed
I'm been wanting to try this course out for a while heard some bad things but wanted to try it out for myself. First of all I got there and signed in the staff was very nice but they said the we are backed up on a very nice day in May which was ok. They said 20mins so I didn't mind. I grabbed a beer and waiting with my threesome. Our tee time was 10am we didn't tee off until 11:20. So I went in to maybe get a discount for my next round there or some type of compensation for the horriable wait. I got offered a foundation drink and told this always happens. If you expect to tee off on time here then your mistaken. Let alone we had what it seemed like 4 beginners in front of us who had 2 holes clear ahead of them. I'm not one to complain about the pace but this was horriable. We asked to pass and they refused we even joined with the people behind us just because the wait was horriable. So we where shooting with 5 people on them but they didn't let us pass. We had to skip a hole just because the pace was just ruining our games. After that the round was better. Nice course just wish the greens where better. I doubt il make it back here after this. Highly disappointed on this overall experience. Our 10am tee time we ended at 4pm!
We are sorry to hear you had anything less than a great experience at Joe Louis. Due to the busy Holiday weekend and beautiful weather, we had a significant volume of rounds on the course. Because of the high demand that the course sometimes experiences, we have limited cart availability after 10am on weekends; as a result, we do our best to inform guests of this issue before they arrive, and apologize if this was not communicated effectively. Additionally, because of the high volume of golfers the day you played, we experienced a slower pace of play than is typical for the course. We are actively working on a program to improve the pace of play on busier days as we realize it is an important aspect of the guest experience. We appreciate your feedback and hope that you will come back again soon and we look forward to having another opportunity to offer you a fun and enjoyable golf experience.
Hidden Jem
Hidden in forest preserve around industry but is worth the trip. Course is not groomed like a resort but it is still great for the cheap price.
Good times
The course was good and moderately challenging. The only negative is that 18 looks like a mine field, it was extremely badly manicured.
The course has a nice design, but not maintain well.
Had a 10:57 tee time didn't get off until 12:30pm. They were back up because there were no golf cart and no Rangers to help keep pace.
nice course
Would play again! Price was great from golf now, would recommend it to everyone.
Tough par5's
Good course for very little cash flow. All of the par 4's are challenging, but all of the par 3's are about the same length, which helps you dial in your pitching wedge the the third one. The greens are sloped and hard to hit the pin
20 minute wait for golf cart
The course was in fair shape. We waited more than 20 minutes for a golf cart at the 1st tee box.
Nice price but slow pace
Great price and pace was very slow at times. Course pretty well kept but there were clippings EVERYWHERE!!! But still had a very nice time ! Would go back again
Joe Louis
I like the layout of the course. Greens are slow and bunkers need work. I enjoyed the course.
delay
The staff is great! But over an hour and half delay on my tee time this is unacceptable. What's up with forest Preserve golf courses. The compensation for my delay a soda wow!!! . The golf carts are ancient and unreliable.
Joe Louis
I honestly really enjoy playing this course, but on this occasion it was just in HORRIBLE condition. Half of the course was underwater, and it hadn't even rained for a week.
I want to reiterate that normally this is a great course, and I would recommend and will play again, but I think in days it is underwater, it needs to be discounted.
good course gone bad!!
although it's the end of the year it's sad that they let the course just go down hill.no leaves blown, sand traps unattended, greens shoddy, but hey that's the park district for you.
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear your play was interrupted on the course. We aim to provide an enjoyable round to each guest at our facility and hope you will be back to play again soon!
