Brutal
We had 12:07 tee time and when we got to the course, we were informed that there were over TEN groups (not an exaggeration) in front of us waiting for carts. We offered to tee off and walk. They said that was not allowed and that we would have to wait until all of the groups before us went off.
The backup was supposedly due to slow play, but the ranger was sitting in his cart on the first tee the entire time.
I will definitely never come back.
Slow and singled out
Course was fair condition and multiple fairways that had water retention. My group was a foursome and a twosome we played scramble and kept our pace of play up. We were singled out by the rangers and were hit up on when we were actually waiting on a twosome and sixsome ahead of us. We actually had to scold the group behind to not hit on us while we were on the greens. This course will probably be best played on a slow weekday.
Joe Louis
Finally making needed repairs to course huge upgrade on the sand traps. What is really needed is a marshal to many groups of 2 playing 4 1/2 hours in March for 18.
Awful Course
This course plays 30 minutes per hole. We had to wait for a golf cart as they were out when starting. Golfers on this course tend to be very loud and not respect golf etiquette. There is no course marshal watching pace of play or beer/drink cart. The bathrooms have no locks, stall doors & bugs. The course layout lends to others hitting at you and on other hole fairways as the setup is awful. The sand traps are rock pits, not sand traps. This is way over priced for the course & I would never recommend playing here.
How do you have a shortage of carts?!?!
So i have sworn off Joe Lewis but I thought I would give it another chance. I probably wont play there again which is unfortunate because i love the course. For the second time at this course we walked up and there are at least 5 groups on the tee box. Reason being is there are not enough golf carts! This causes heavy back up. The course is managed very poorly and seems like tee times are booked in 5 minute intervals. The course is kept up much better than in years past and I love the layout but be ready to play a 6 hour round if you choose to play.
week-end golfing
do not play on week end, super slow
play course during week
Not good
The foursome in front of us had a man golfing with his shirt off who was riding with a man in a T-shirt. Behind us was a man playing in bare feet. It was DISGUSTING! The tee boxes were mudd, the water coolers were empty, the cut was horrible everywhere, the entire course was unkempt and in very poor condition. I had to wait for carts to come in before getting a cart. No cart girl service. I won't be playing this course again.
Loved the greens and tough par 5s. Definitely a must
Pace of play
Having an early morning tee time is surely beneficial to those that don't want to play a five hour round of golf. Greens were in excellent shape.
Way too slow
Had a 12:30 tee time but didn't start until 1:30 because the course was so overbooked. Only managed to play 14 holes.
Course layout is relatively simple and plain but that is expected given the rate. Would probably be pleasant enough to play if it wasn't so crowded. Probably not coming back
No starter, unlimited carts
This is the first time in a while I've walked off a course. We (buddy and I, both descent golfers) started on 10 because when we got to 1 there were about 9 carts on the first. There were 4 and 6 sums all over and many were driving around in their own carts. I've never seen anything like it. Strongly advise you don't go. Terrible
Great park district course.
I avoided playing this course because its park district, but I regret not playing it sooner. Fairways were very nice as well as the greens. Staff was super friendly and was able to get 18 holes done in 3 hours (7:50 tee time during the week). I definitely recommend playing this course.
Good experience
Greens where nice. Most fairways where good. Few spots here and there. Good design.
Beautiful Day
Course in really good shape

Good value
Course was in great condition. I really liked the length and layout. If it wasn't so far out the way for me, I would go more often.
Thank you for taking the time to play at Joe Louis! We are always happy to hear when a guest enjoys their round of golf and overall experience at our facility. We hope to see you again soon!
The Champ
Good course at a great price; will definitely play here again.
Nice course with great price
The course was in great shape. I really enjoyed playing here and you can't beat the price.
Way too slow!
The pace of play was ridiculous. Tee time was 7:47... Didn't finish until 1:00. Didn't see a ranger on the course. On plus side the greens are in great shape. But 5+ hours to play golf in 90* heat is insane. Never again!
Thank you for your feedback, we understand that pace is important to your round and are currently working on a pace of play program to speed things up on the course. We look forward to implementing this program so we can offer each guest an even better golfing experience.
We are delighted to hear that you had an enjoyable experience during your round! We hope to see you back on the course soon!!
