Mystic Oak Golf Course
About
Mystic Oak Golf Course in Waterloo has a diverse layout that seems to play a little differently each time you're on it. The layout features long, winding fairways and gently sloping greens, which are framed by a slew of strategically placed bunkers. There are also many water hazards that come into play throughout the golf course. The gently rolling terrain has subtle ups and downs that provide tricky uneven lies. The back nine is uniquely divided into three par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s each. The golf course will test your short-game skills but the lengthy par 5s offer driving opportunities for long hitters as well. Mystic Oak Golf Course is player friendly enough for a wide range of skill levels but you may be surprised to find yourself using all the clubs in your bag.

What Happened to Mystic Oak???
This was disappointing to say the least, this was once a nice affordable place to play and right now it isn't worth a free round. The fairways and rough were hardly cut, so on some holes it was hard to tell if you were in the rough or fairway at the course or just in someones yard in your local neighborhood. The tee boxes on some holes were just sticking a tee in the dirt around a blade of grass, it was like the course hasn't seen a sprinkler in months.
The one positive was the greens were in pretty good shape, if they took half as much care of the rest of the course as the greens, it would go a LONG way to bringing this course back to what it was.
Don't waste your money unless you are looking for something affordable and just want to get out and play, if you want more, find another course.
very nice
friendly staff, large group getting ready to play, Dennis in proshop suggested we start on back 9. rain kept crowds away, very good BLT before tee off. Challenging but not overwhelming for a beginner.
January 30th Round
Beautiful weather on a January day. Temperature reached close to 70. First 12 holes was fantastic. Virtually no waiting at all even though the course was pretty full. The last 6 holes, we, as a twosome, got behind a 6-some who would not let us play through. Consequently, the last 6 holes were agonizing. Of course, there was no marshal on a January day so there wasn't much we could do but wait.
Dry Dead Fairwsys
Played this course many times when it was the Ridge and always enjoyed it....yesterday, not so much.
The course is becoming rundown other than the pro shop bar. Fairways are dusty and dead, while the lakes are full...use some water on your fairways! Many greens are in horrible shape as well. Took 15 min to get 2 hotdogs served in cold buns after first 9 holes...how tough can it be?
fairway
i loved the layout of the course. the fairways and tee boxes just need a lot of attention. greens were in real good shape
What a joke.....over priced backyard!
Decided to play here in order to save a little money knowing that it's not the same quality of other courses in this area. Arrived and was charged $35 which would have been far better spent somewhere else. This place is an absolute joke. The grass or atleast what little they have could be cut better with a machete. They blades on there mower probably haven't been sharpened since the 90's. If you hit it anywhere near the rough good luck finding your ball. If you lucky enough to hit it in the fairway, hopefully your ball lands in a patch of fairways because 90% of it is covered in weeds and dirt. After the fairway don't land next to the green. Similar to letting your front yard grow for 2 weeks. Would it be that hard to spray a little herbicide? My 6 year old even acknowledged how poor the course was. Wouldn't pay over $5 for this backyard course!
Don't waste your time!
Really disappointed! Heard the course was in good shape. Course was not! Tees, fairways and green surrounds were mostly crabgrass. Greens rolled okay but had a lot of damage that was caused by geese.
On the positive side the staff was very pleasant to deal with. Hope they continue to work on the course, they have some zoysia in the fairways but it will be awhile until it takes over.
Do not recommend playing right now!!
Great Value, Great Pace of Play
This is a nice little course for a good deal. There twilight offer was like 15 bucks or something for 18 on a weekday. Pace of play is fantastic.
The course is fairly easy so it is good for inexperienced golfers, but there are a few tough holes that can also challenge some experienced golfers.
One downside is the tee boxes, they could use some work. Other than that, the course was in pretty good shape for the price.
Course to ourselves
We played on a Sunday morning and had the course pretty much to ourselves. The early birds were already out and I guess church wasn't out yet.
There are some very challenging holes, but the course is very playable.
OK Design, OK Condition, OK Maintenance
This is an OK course in OK condition. Nothing special about the design. Considering the heavy rain this season, the current condition is OK- not great.
Also, management should notify Garmin GPS that they have the back nine and back nine confused. #1-#9 are listed as #10-#18.
The black swans on the pond add an interesting visual.
Great value, good conditions
The course was in real good shape. Tee boxes could use some work, but overall the course was well maintained. Exceptional value.
Looking for a Deal?
The course has some challenging holes, but the majority of the course is pretty player friendly for all skill levels. The course staff is friendly and the offers great rates.
Emabrassed....
Fairways and were like the rough. I understand that it rained a bunch and it was cart-path only conditions, but having to search for balls on the fairway!???
needs work
pulling into the course was the best part of the day. Grass had been cut , but they waited so long that it looked like rows of hay waiting to be bailed. No driving range, course was dry i broke tee after tee trying to get them in the ground.I think it could be a very nice course, just needs some work. This is just my opinion based on my experience .
Average course
Good conditions
Back nine is quite hilly
Water comes into play alot
Challenging course for the average golfer.
The course was in fairly good shape. The rough right off the fairway had a lot of white clover in it. It was a bit high, lots of balls lost in bounds because of this. I would suggest using golf balls that are not white. There were 2 groups that played slower that did not allow us to play through. The round took 5 hours to play we barely finished before dark. I will play this course again, but just maybe not on the weekend.
Fun course
this course has a friendly staff and I clearly taking care of the course. Probably the best fairways and greens I have played on this year.
Very challenging for the average golfer
The tall grass just off the fairway hides balls and requires too much time to find your ball. The grass next to the greens is just too high to hit through as an average golfer. There is a Par 4 dogleg right that goes down a steep grade and up another steep grade to the green that should be a Par 5 hole. There were entirely too much grass cuttings left on and off the fairways, which would hide balls, causing a loss in stroke. Too much time was spent looking for balls.
The price is right
My wife and I love this course. We play there a few times a year. The course is in pretty good shape, greens are faster than you think. Fairways could use some work, but not bad. There are some very tough holes on this course, but most are easy to moderate. Staff is friendly, but you don't see a lot of people at the clubhouse. The restaurant is great, but it is not a 19th hole, it is a restaurant. Love the course. Worth the price every time.
good for a country course
a 2 star course .... but interesting.. this might be good for southern Il. but this does have not grass fairways.. just weeds....greens are good to better .. but the rough around the edge of the greens is a very tough weed rough not higher grass ....
good was the tight fairways and the shot maker style design layout.... par 3 are long
Never been to Scotland but expect this is what it's like there ....... I like Michigan ( PGA ) type courses ..
so it might be good for this area... I guess..
The courses in this area received over ten inches of rain in less than 3 days. The ground crew was not able to mow without creating ruts and tracks. Some of the fairways have not fully transitioned to zoyzia, so some were pretty long. Hard to fight mother nature!
