Mystic Oak Golf Course
About
Mystic Oak Golf Course in Waterloo has a diverse layout that seems to play a little differently each time you're on it. The layout features long, winding fairways and gently sloping greens, which are framed by a slew of strategically placed bunkers. There are also many water hazards that come into play throughout the golf course. The gently rolling terrain has subtle ups and downs that provide tricky uneven lies. The back nine is uniquely divided into three par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s each. The golf course will test your short-game skills but the lengthy par 5s offer driving opportunities for long hitters as well. Mystic Oak Golf Course is player friendly enough for a wide range of skill levels but you may be surprised to find yourself using all the clubs in your bag.

Cheap Golf
Let me start by saying the we only paid $22 for 18 with Golf Now "Hot Deal" :)
Greens were in bad shape. Could not tell where the fairways started and the rough began.
The layout is nice with a couple interesting holes.
Great staff service,
Staff is very good. Greens were in a rough shape, Fairways were in good shape. Pace of play was great.
Poor greens and tee boxes.
Tee boxes in bad shape but the greens were even worse.
Grounds Keeper MIA
Dont WASTE your $$$$...Unless you dont put a value on your golf score I would suggest NOT playing this track!!! The GREENS & FAIRWAYS are in horrible condition. I usually don't complain much if one or two greens ate a bit cruddy, but OMG! 16 out of 18 greens looked and played terrible! Need i even say more? Yes, I will...the fairways are full of unrecognizeable weeds and solid bare dirt spots that send well hit shots all over the place except where they should go. The bright side of it all?, the carts where new, the layout of the course is awesome, and i refused to even spend another dime at the clubhouse upon completion of the round due to discuss!, so I cant honestly rate the clubhouse...I pray somebody withtons of money buys the place and save it from the neglect that its in...Great layout, just needs a lot of work from a KNOWLEDGEABLE GROUNDS KEEPER MANAGER!!!!

$25 Course. Greens not in very good condition. Fairways had a lot of over grown grass. Course has a great layout and is very fun to play. Would recommend it to all.
Disappointed
I have played this course 3 times in the last 2 years and I know why I have a hard time returning for another round. I can't recall a course in this poor condition besides Riverside in Fenton..yes I'm name dropping bc it's pathetic as well. But at least Riverside has an excuse, it's right by a huge river that floods a dozen times a year.
Mystic Oaks is a joke. I hate to say that because the course seems to have a bit of potential but as far as management goes right now, doesn't look like anyone knows what their doing or they just don't care.
As you get your round underway, the first thing you realize is that the tee boxes are hard as a rock. You will break a few tees just trying to get the ball teed up. Once you're out of the tee box, it's hard to determine where the fairway ends and the rough begins at times. The bunkers seem to have been poured with some quickcrete and left to dry. And if they aren't rock hard then they are filled with puddles. And once you make it thru all that, you come to a burnt up green with tons of obstacles in your way. Now I don't know about any of you but when you are trying to putt and in between your ball and the hole is an obstacle other than slope or break...come on!
Those greens are inexcusable and arent worth the entire round. Simple, when you can't hardly putt because the greens are so bad you are missing a ton of your round. Clover patches, mold, huge divers from lawnmower turning his machine on the green, I mean it's unbelievably bad. It makes you angry they let this course go like this. Big let down.
Other than having a golf day with a couple buddies, we all were pretty let down and felt almost like the money spent wasn't worth it again.
Thanks mystic oaks, word will get around.
Relaxing
Still love this course, used to play it when it was called the ridge love the layout, very relaxing, great way to spend the day with friends !
Brutal Conditions
Play somewhere else. This course is in horrible condition. The fairways were not mowed, the sandtraps had not been raked in weeks, you could not tell thifference between a fairway and the rough. The greens were burnt up. I played this course last year and it was fine, terrible this year. Seems like they just want to get through and are ready to sell, although that is just a guess.
Terrible course condition
This course is in very bad shape. The front nine had diseased fairways, which led to limited good grass in the fairway. The bunkers were rock hard or had puddles in them. The green had many spots with no grass on them. The back nine however was completely different. The greens were smooth and faster than the back with limited damage. The fairways were in great shape. However, due to the poor quality and care given to the front nine, I recommend staying away from the course.
Needs work
Hadn't played Mystic Oak (The Ridge) in a few years. I've always like it, but it really needs some work. I was disappointed.
The bad: Tee boxes were horrible, no grass, not actually on the tee box but in the fairway on several holes making them way shorter than what the card reads. Lots of undesirable grasses in the ruff and on the fairways. Greens were spotty on some holes.
The good: Staff was very friendly, although we had to find someone so serve us a drink/sandwich at the turn. Grounds crew was courteous, unlike some courses. They turned off mowers, stayed away, and waited for us around the greens. They were aware when we were on the tees and stopped while we were hitting.
Mystic oak is good
Course is reasonably challenging...well maintained...priced right...employees have always been very pleseant.
What Happened to Mystic Oak???
This was disappointing to say the least, this was once a nice affordable place to play and right now it isn't worth a free round. The fairways and rough were hardly cut, so on some holes it was hard to tell if you were in the rough or fairway at the course or just in someones yard in your local neighborhood. The tee boxes on some holes were just sticking a tee in the dirt around a blade of grass, it was like the course hasn't seen a sprinkler in months.
The one positive was the greens were in pretty good shape, if they took half as much care of the rest of the course as the greens, it would go a LONG way to bringing this course back to what it was.
Don't waste your money unless you are looking for something affordable and just want to get out and play, if you want more, find another course.
very nice
friendly staff, large group getting ready to play, Dennis in proshop suggested we start on back 9. rain kept crowds away, very good BLT before tee off. Challenging but not overwhelming for a beginner.
January 30th Round
Beautiful weather on a January day. Temperature reached close to 70. First 12 holes was fantastic. Virtually no waiting at all even though the course was pretty full. The last 6 holes, we, as a twosome, got behind a 6-some who would not let us play through. Consequently, the last 6 holes were agonizing. Of course, there was no marshal on a January day so there wasn't much we could do but wait.
Dry Dead Fairwsys
Played this course many times when it was the Ridge and always enjoyed it....yesterday, not so much.
The course is becoming rundown other than the pro shop bar. Fairways are dusty and dead, while the lakes are full...use some water on your fairways! Many greens are in horrible shape as well. Took 15 min to get 2 hotdogs served in cold buns after first 9 holes...how tough can it be?
fairway
i loved the layout of the course. the fairways and tee boxes just need a lot of attention. greens were in real good shape
What a joke.....over priced backyard!
Decided to play here in order to save a little money knowing that it's not the same quality of other courses in this area. Arrived and was charged $35 which would have been far better spent somewhere else. This place is an absolute joke. The grass or atleast what little they have could be cut better with a machete. They blades on there mower probably haven't been sharpened since the 90's. If you hit it anywhere near the rough good luck finding your ball. If you lucky enough to hit it in the fairway, hopefully your ball lands in a patch of fairways because 90% of it is covered in weeds and dirt. After the fairway don't land next to the green. Similar to letting your front yard grow for 2 weeks. Would it be that hard to spray a little herbicide? My 6 year old even acknowledged how poor the course was. Wouldn't pay over $5 for this backyard course!
Don't waste your time!
Really disappointed! Heard the course was in good shape. Course was not! Tees, fairways and green surrounds were mostly crabgrass. Greens rolled okay but had a lot of damage that was caused by geese.
On the positive side the staff was very pleasant to deal with. Hope they continue to work on the course, they have some zoysia in the fairways but it will be awhile until it takes over.
Do not recommend playing right now!!
Great Value, Great Pace of Play
This is a nice little course for a good deal. There twilight offer was like 15 bucks or something for 18 on a weekday. Pace of play is fantastic.
The course is fairly easy so it is good for inexperienced golfers, but there are a few tough holes that can also challenge some experienced golfers.
One downside is the tee boxes, they could use some work. Other than that, the course was in pretty good shape for the price.
Course to ourselves
We played on a Sunday morning and had the course pretty much to ourselves. The early birds were already out and I guess church wasn't out yet.
There are some very challenging holes, but the course is very playable.
