St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course

About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Friday at St Andrew’s
Had a great time with a foursome. The staff put 3 separate groups of two behinds us which of course backed up a bit, but that’s to be accepted. We finished the front nine at exactly 1:46 which is ahead of pace of play for St Andrew’s. They need to consider combining twosomes like many courses, instead of leaning on our group to pick up the pace.

Not bad, just boring
Really isn't much to this course until the last 2 holes. Every hole is pretty straight and uneventful. Way too costly for what you get compared to other courses in the area. I would much rather spend money at their practice facility than on the course. I'd recommend only if you can find a deal, or during twilight rates.

Fairway obstacles
This course is not the St Andrews I started my golfing career on. It asked me if I would recommend this to a friend they did not have a maybe button. Of course had clumps of grass, sticks, all over the fairways 16 out of 18. This was the Jemsik course. Sand traps had tire marks going through them. And yes I know if I didn't hit in the sand trap I wouldn't worry about it but if I hit an a fairway I would have to worry about sticks and clumps of grass so it doesn't matter. Several times the ball would hit a stick in the fairway or a clump of grass and keep it from rolling or kick it to the side. The starter was telling me that there's a group behind us we have to get moving and I understand that but he was telling me as I was on the tee getting ready to hit my ball. I've left a review month or so back and I think it got worse. Definitely hate to bash this course because it is a good course but you have to get better and when people leave reviews you have to take those reviews into into consideration and make those changes. I do have pictures but for some reason this won't let me upload them so I will have to put this on Yelp and upload the pictures there.

Not THE St Andrews of course...
I prefer this course to the other one on the property. But both are immaculately kept for a public course. Holes aren't long, but hills and undulations make it more challenging than the card might suggest. Greens are rarely flat and challenging.
All in all, good luck finding a public course that is this well kept, let alone for the fair price they ask.

The course was on very good condition
Speed of greens we're perfect and true to read. Course was in good condition even after heavy rains earlier in the week. Good course for friends and family to enjoy together
