St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Cool Weather Golf
Played Monday morning 5/2. We had had a lot of rain so it was cart path only on the course. We played the Joe Jemsek side, was in very good condition even with the rain. We were the first ones out and were done in2 hours and 50 minutes-would love to play fast like that all the time!! Why does slow play have to happen??
There was no issue with our pace of play, we played in in 2 hours and 50 minutes. I was commenting in general about why is there slow play out there at all courses.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!
Enjoyable course
Course was in great shape for early season. Greens were smooth and true.

The course is looking good for the weather we are having I do not know much about keeping greens in shape But last Thursday the weather was excellent for golf I like them a little quick and smooth After Thursday last week It was very challenging to even putt Between Metal Spikes Ripping Them Up, people not fixing there divots, and just wear and tear with the weather we have had. The weather has not been good but giving them attention would be appreciated The walking price is very reasonable however price for carts should not cost more the golf I walk now Its a heathy way to walk 7 miles twice a week

No Carts No refund
I booked six tee times. I was informed in the morning of golf it was walking only. My golfer are retired. One can’t walk with bad knees. One golfer is 82 years old. They all depend on riding the course to play and all duly canceled. I showed up and told them my predicament. They said it was out of their hands. It was a cold and very windy day with gusts that blew down tree limbs. I rented a pull cart which was blown over once scattering all my things. One time, teeing off, I turned to my cart and it was gone! I saw it rolling on the parallel fairway 50 yards away! It would be funny except when I returned, I asked why it was walking only when the course was not wet and the paths were clear. He said the amount of bookings did not warrant the staff to handle carts.! Yeah, since I was the only one on the course! A very expensive “Hot Deal “ to say the least.
Hello. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced at our course. Unfortunately, since the tee times you booked prepaid Hot Deals from GolfNow, there’s nothing we could have done in terms of refund/credits. We’re sorry for any confusion. If you contact GolfNow, we’re sure they would be able to get you situated for any golfers that didn’t play. You can contact them here: https://www.golfnow.com/support/contact-us. We would love to see you back at our course in the future. – St. Andrews Golf & CC Management

Fun winter course
It was the only course open I. The Chicago area because of snow . The always keep thinking he course in good shape. 30 dollars for a winter walking rate is steep but they were the only course open Staff is alway very nice. Two nice classic 18 home courses not hard but fun. The par 3s on course two the Jemsek course are long and a
bit hard.

Chicagoland Value Hotspot
One of my favorite Chicagoland golf spots! Two neatly kept courses that provide challenges for all levels of golfers. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, St. Andrews caters to both. My favorite part is both courses are maintained above average throughout the entire golf season. The layout is fantastic, and you forget there are two courses. All carts have GPS and staff are super friendly. Have seen some backups on the weekends during the summer like any course would, however you see Rangers out keeping the pace of play. Now on top of the courses, the practice facilities are in my opinion the best public option in the Chicagoland. From the range, to the chipping, to the putting. Very well done. In the event you were trying to decide between the two courses, I personally prefer the Joe Jemsek course due to challenge of hazards of trees and water at the end. You can’t go wrong with either, and if you want to see what lies ahead check their website out for the flyover tour. Decent bar and grill to boot!
Always an OK course. Better, more challenging and interesting than St. Andrews course. Challenging layout for an older design. Has some length. Big and subtle greens. Only complaint is high price for quality of course, but you play where you can on December.
I do not rate high in general. 4 stars or more for an average course, as this is, tells a reader nothing. OK course. 3 stars.
St Andrews golf
Course was in great shape. Greens were faster than I expected for this time of year. Pace of play was okay and fairways were in good shape
Nice course, bad tee time reservation system
Your choice of 2 18 hole courses. The front course is very noisy being right along a busy state highway but well designed. The back course is our favorite and much quieter.
The terrible thing is having to reserve tee times through Golf Now and you have to pay for everyone in your party. If one of your golfers doesn't show, you can't easily get a refund. And if you have a league, yep, you're paying for everyone.
Hopefully this will change next year and you can just call the pro shop.
