Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Overall a nice facility
First the positives. The facility is top notch. Great practice facilities, club house and restaurant. Employees are friendly. Overall shape of course is pretty good. Negatives. Tee boxes are beat up and pace of play is slow. Rangers try to move things along but the course gets way overbooked. Tee boxes most likely reflect the overbooking.

Slow play
Pace of play was awful. Rangers didn’t do anything to get groups playing at a decent pace. Gave up after 15 holes took 5 hours. Won’t be coming back.

Course has always a good challenge. To many walkers interspersed with rider's slow down the pace of play.

Not the best
There were whirlybirds all over the greens, had to make a path for every putt. The grass in the rough wasn’t mowed, so hitting out of the rough was like hitting it out of the crap.

people and management are friendly
I am not going to play as much at st andrews this year
because they won't let you take the carts out to the parking lot. 1 of 2 courses that do this. very inconvenient
for older players.

St. Andrews is a nice course to play and even walk .There are a few holes that you need to make good shots The greens are smooth. The employees are nice
