Belk Park
Always consistently in good shape and one of the best bargains in golf around St Louis.
Almost as slow-paced as Spencer T Olin.
The condition of the course was less than average…the greens were incredibly soggy and appeared to be fertilized. The biggest issue we had was how the pace of play wasn’t balanced out. We were as patient as we could be, but when we got to the 7th hole, we grouped up with the 11:10am twosome that teed off prior to 11am. They let us play ahead at the turn and we still were stuck behind multiple slow twosomes. When we got to the tee box of the 14th, we decided to jump to the 16th, which was wide open. We played 16-18, and went back to 14 to finish the two holes we skipped. By the time we got to the parking lot to unload our equipment, The first of three groups that were ahead of us, a foursome, was just finishing #18. By skipping those holes and coming back, I’d say we saved about 40 minutes. Otherwise it would’ve been close to a 5-hour round. Either the twosomes need to be pushed ahead of the slow foursome, or the twosomes need to pair up, pacing the play out. If the golf marshall does not have the awareness to fix this issue, then Belk Park does not need a marshall.
Fairways
The greens was very good but the fair ways where not good the grass wasn’t cut, and there was pockets of water in the fairways .
Great weather, slow play...
The rough had not been cut, lost a couple of balls and gave up looking for them out of respect for pace of play. Fairways not cut, a little shaggy. The greens were chewed up, numerous ball marks not fixed (this is a recording). It was crowded due to great weather on a Sunday. Really slow play, I was a single and still took close to four hours to complete round.
high school tournament
Although this is one of my favorite courses, they almost 200 high school kids in a tournament so I waited around 45 minutes to start, then I played with two really old men that played red tees and I played white by nine rounds it was 330 supposed start 1210 and I did not have time to finish and left I did not ask for a rain check and was not offered one all about the money with a extra 100 kids you made your money be more courteous to the people you held up.
Great layout
I've played this course for 30 years. The layout has always been one of my favorite. Fairways are in great shape and the tee boxes are really good as well. The greens on the other hand are rough. There are so many pitch marks on the greens it makes them hard to putt. I repaired 4-6 marks on every green. The rough is a mixture of zoysia and crab grass so it's thick. Their was a foursome that had three holes open in front of them and the marshal never said a word.
