Crystal Woods Golf Club
About
Crystal Woods Golf Club dates back to the 1950s when it was opened as a nine-hole, par-37 course called Bit O’ Heather Golf Club, which it was known as until 1967 when the course was renamed and completely redesigned, which included the addition of another nine. The par-72 course that exists today tumbles across a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The golf course is mostly wide open, putting it at the mercy of the prevailing winds. On particularly blustery days, Crystal Woods Golf Club is quite demanding. The 12th is the course’s signature and it even has a reputation for being the most difficult hole in McHenry County. It’s tempting to be distracted by the beautiful view from the elevated tee but this tough hole requires your full attention. The double-tiered green rises dramatically from front to back, often demanding three or more putts.

Happy the Crystal Woods staff changed or just became much friendlier!
I used to go to Crystal Woods weekly for many years but stopped going when a new management group came in raised price, provided poor customer service, and didn't improve the course at all. Well, after boycotting for many years, I am happy to say that the staff there on Friday was excellent/ very friendly. The course was in great shape and my group had an amazing time! I will definitely be coming back if this is now the norm.
Great course in great condition.
I haven't played this game in a long time because I hadn't played golf for about 18 years. It was a great reminder of how challenging this course is. I wouldn't call it a hard course, but definitely a good challenge. The greens are very undulating and not too fast. Fairways and rough are thick, green, and plush. Overall a nice course and a great value.
Raincheck
Multiple lightning and rainstorm delays. Course said we can do a rain check. Made a new reservation for Thursday July 11 at noon. Please confirm what I need to do to confirm.
Ron is King
Played this course on Father’s Day and had a wonderful time. The course was in good shape and the pace was slow, but our interaction with Ron was phenomenal. He asked multiple times how we were doing and did everything in his power to move the pace of play along. He even did us a personal solid and did a beverage run during the back nine! Our experience was Ron’s first priority and for that we are eternally grateful…
We booked a tee time through golf. Now there was nothing in the notes that said that that course was having 2 scrambles. We got there. There were no carts getting ready to make the turn. The guy comes out and tells us that we have to play. The front again wasn't very happy about that.
