Crystal Woods Golf Club

About
Crystal Woods Golf Club dates back to the 1950s when it was opened as a nine-hole, par-37 course called Bit O’ Heather Golf Club, which it was known as until 1967 when the course was renamed and completely redesigned, which included the addition of another nine. The par-72 course that exists today tumbles across a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The golf course is mostly wide open, putting it at the mercy of the prevailing winds. On particularly blustery days, Crystal Woods Golf Club is quite demanding. The 12th is the course’s signature and it even has a reputation for being the most difficult hole in McHenry County. It’s tempting to be distracted by the beautiful view from the elevated tee but this tough hole requires your full attention. The double-tiered green rises dramatically from front to back, often demanding three or more putts.

Best greens I have ever played on. Course is old but has some outstanding holes unfortunately this drought has had drastic effect on course.. fairways are not so good and it is so dry that your ball will run forever. Pace of play was very slow because of beginning golfers in front of us. No staff to monitor. Staff was very friendly. If you go off the fairway ground is like cement. Would like to play course under different conditions will give it another try after some rain falls and due to excellent staff.
Pleasant Course
Hot day so it was wide open. finished 18 around 3:30, no replay rate or twilight rate. Got charged full price for another round. No complaints, just kind of odd. Was only $33. So good value for the course.
Good course for seasoned players as well as beginners.
Good course
I thought the signage on the course was very poor for first time user. I did like the layout but there are cross over shots by the players from hole to hole at times. Didn’t use the food facilities.
Pretty good
Loved the course. Had a lot of fun, none of the holes were exceptionally challenging. A few fun little par 3 shots. Relatively straight forward. Worst part was not being allowed to use a driver on the driving range?? Kinda weird imo and made the beginning part slow for me.
Nice find in Woodstock
First time playing here, the course was in good condition and the layout is nice, good variety of challenges throughout the course. Would definitely play here again!
Happy the Crystal Woods staff changed or just became much friendlier!
I used to go to Crystal Woods weekly for many years but stopped going when a new management group came in raised price, provided poor customer service, and didn't improve the course at all. Well, after boycotting for many years, I am happy to say that the staff there on Friday was excellent/ very friendly. The course was in great shape and my group had an amazing time! I will definitely be coming back if this is now the norm.
Great course in great condition.
I haven't played this game in a long time because I hadn't played golf for about 18 years. It was a great reminder of how challenging this course is. I wouldn't call it a hard course, but definitely a good challenge. The greens are very undulating and not too fast. Fairways and rough are thick, green, and plush. Overall a nice course and a great value.
