Shepherds
Pace was a little slow, very windy the day I played, don't hit it in the rough,as you will not find it
Great Course- Hidden Gem
Nice links course in very good condition. Greens had been recently aerated with large holes, but playable. Leaves on the green, but this is normal for fall conditions
Played 18 holes in under 3 hours. Course is open and exposed to wind. The winds blow hard here, but this is typical for a links style course
Bunkers in good condition. Multi tier greens require good iron shots
Only complain was clubhouse would not let me check in until 10 minutes before tee off. Then starter wanted me on the tee 3 minutes later. I think this is unusual. The rushed start was not enjoyable, but the golf was very enjoyable.
Highly recommended. Playable for all levels.
Employees are too bossy
Employees were too bossy and rude to Golf now customers
Enjoyable
Course has plenty of chalanges but over all is in great condition. Hole 18 is so beautiful just take a good look before you tee off. Food is plentiful and yummy! Would love to play it again, but wish they would not team you up with unusual golfers. Enjoy it's a great course with good speed.
Aeration Everywhere
Love this course but have no idea what they are doing there. Greens were fine and not punched but rough areas everywhere were punched. Too often that led to balls lying in holes and/or being surrounded by dirt clumps. Impossible to play, particularly around the greens
Quality course
All parts of the course were in good condition. The greens were rolling well.
Garbage Dump
This course is right next to a large garbage dump. The trucks were contstant and noisy. The view of the dump ruined what could have been a lovely setting. And the smell was overwhelming at times. It is too bad. The course itself is lovely, but I would not play it again and would not recommend it because of the dump.
Beyond expectations!
After having this course recommended to me last year by my cousin (who is an excellent player), we finally made the 1 hour+ drive from the western suburbs to try it out. Wow, was he right! Played on a Monday afternoon as a twosome. Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and welcoming. Course conditions were outstanding, and we absolutely loved the layout. The majority of the course is links-style, but there are also parts of the course that go into the trees. Great changes in elevation, hitting up to or down to greens. Speaking of the greens, they were true, fast, undulated and very well maintained. Great par 3's. Played from the tips, which was about 6,850 yards. On a windy day, it would be a very tough task. Only negatives were the lack of a practice range and the smell from the neighboring landfill, though neither of these would detract from this being a great track. On top of all of this, it cost us $35 each. We will DEFINITELY be back to Shepherd's Crook!
awesome value
if this course was in Lake Geneva it would cost at least $85 - $100 to play. The best public course I have ever played. I only wish I could play it every week.
Nice conditions, greens very good, fairways firm, but can take divots
Played as a single - 1st out on SAT morning. Can't speak to the pace of play, but tee times are 10 minutes, so should move. Fairways were firm enough to get some roll, but divots were still easily taken. Greens rolled true, held short iron approach shots well, overall conditions were very good. A good GPS or course scorecard would be helpful, as some tee shots and Par 5 lay-ups are difficult to judge, as the terrain rolls gently.
Great Course
Excellent golf course. Quite challenging, but fair. Very good conditions. Really tough Par 5's. Will definitely go back!
A great time for a greaaat price
Me a my stepson played this course from the tips. This made the course more challenging as it brought into play several fairway bunkers and some water hazards. The course is loud by the dump, and on the day we played downwind so if you are in search of a quiet peaceful round go elsewhere. Being the middle of summer the dump smell was aweful, but only prevalent on about 4 holes overall. The starter was awesome and helpful. The course was in great shape as were the greens. The tricky part of this course is the greens. If you're not good with the putter your score will suffer. Pace of play was good, with not many in front of us until the back nine which meant we couldn't play in under three and a half hours. For the price I got on GolfNow I will definitely golf here again. A good fair round for a fair price. I wouldn't pay full price however.
Shepards Crook great course for the $$$s
Great course to play. Wish I lived closer so I could play it more. Course is in great condition. Challenging and fun.
Great links course in northern Illinois southern Wisconsin
Corse was great starter has us off on time great rolling fairways and greens had sections so you had to hit into the green in the correct section of the greens. Overall course was great and will be returning again.
Worth the Drive
Nice course was worth the drive from the western suburbs on a Sunday afternoon - played in under 4 hours on a Sunday. A few odd long holes 255 par 3 and a 650 par 5.
A Gem of a Course
Other than an occasional whiff of the nearby landfill, it's a fabulous and inexpensive course to play. Most holes are constructed to give you a sense you are the only ones playing there as you can't see the players on the other holes. On the Thursday afternoon I played, I finished 18 holes in three hours. I thought that was a phenomenal pace for a public course.
nice course in Chicago area
A nice course kept in very good condition. Fun variety of holes. Not especially tough if you hit the ball reasonably straight, as the fairways are generously wide -- though the threesome behind us may not agree as they spent lots of time in the fescue, where the course undoubtedly becomes more challenging. Only negative to our day was the odor from the large landfill immediately adjacent to the course -- though that wasn't too bad because the wind was blowing away from the course and the landfill keeps the trash well-covered with soil.
Great finishing holes on both 9 and 18.
Shepherds Crook
Course played extremely well. After getting an enormous amount of rain the past month, this course was firm and in great shape.
Great links course
Great value and challenge. Varied selection of holes and elevation changes.
A nice course
Greens were fast, well kept. Overall nice course. First time playing and will be back.
I don't understand why the staff would have any issues with Golfnow.com reservations. Their course's website uses Golfnow.com to book tee times.
