bring a a couple of beers, it's going to be a long day
This is a REALLY tough course in spots. It's just that simple.
The course has a lot of verticality and a lot of the fairways and approach shots are really tight and demand precision...and length, together. Part of the problem is that they have built condos right up onto the course. Part of the problem is that the front 9 and #10 are on hilly property. Put the two together and it is chaotic at times. There are some brilliant holes on this course but most of it is average and some of it is simply bogus, let us say, "very humble". In the end it's a decent round but you will remember it most for the brilliant holes and the condos that are almost everywhere, running right along most of the fairways.
A great course to play cheap on the weekend and usually on good weekends in good weather it gets very crowded. It's just too close to DC, smack dab in the middle of Crofton and too good of a deal for it to not get crowded. The clubhouse is pretty good though and goes a long way to make up for some of the "uninspiring" holes on the back 9.
Unfair Staff
The course was in fairly good condition and present a decent challenge. I hurt my back after about the 8th hole and tried to play through the pain. I then attempted to get a rain check after making it through the tenth hole while the pain creased. The gentleman at the Pro Shop said that he could not give me a rain check due to the amount of time that it took us to play the ten holes. I then ask the guy is he new to golf and if he could add or tell time. I arrived to the course at 10:30 to practice for my 11:30 tee time. I started to play at 11:18 and returned to the clubhouse at 2:00. I tried to tell this gentleman that the course crowded and the slow play was in effect during the entire time while on the course. I got impression that this guy did not want me back on this course. "SO I WILL NOT BE BACK"
poor communication
We booked this tee time on Wednesday afternoon, for Thursday play. Arrived and were told that the bridge leading to the front nine was condemned and that we would have to play the back nine only. We were told the knew about the bridge on Tuesday, but that no one had communicated this to Golf Now. We were the second group out in the morning and finished as a threesome in 1 1/2 hours, but had to then wait behind several groups starting play. The back nine took 3 hours to play. We would not have driven and hour from Gainesville to play nine holes twice.
fairways bad, greens bad
Played 9/19/2015. Course was not in good shape. Layout is fine.
The turn around
As a local resident I have truly seen the ups and downs of Walden over the years and to see what they have done here in 2 years is amazing. The staff is awesome and willing to help you out. The course is in great shape it was punched recently and had came out of it amazing. The greens run true and at a great speed. Yes they know they need to keep working to make it what they want it to be but it truly is in great shape and is the best deal by far in the area
Disappointing
Had not played this course in two years because conditions had deteriorated. Saw promotion for the best 18 hole price we could get on Sunday morning and it was Walden. New carts greeted us who along with Walden Community Association president who reported spending more than one-half million dollars on the course during the past few years -- and that with recent aeration of the greens the promo price was offered. He also reported that the course had the second largest number of rounds played in MD during past month. My advice -- wait for the course to get better and wait for the course to learn how to manage the number of rounds it books. This is a 4 four course that took nearly 5 1/2 hours to play on an early Sunday morning. The course needs rangers to move foursomes along, the course needs to mow the grass near the greens and along the fairways to keep players from the extending the time of play looking for balls. It could be a good course, still needs LOTs of work, and pace of play is a killer! Will stay away for another two years and hope it gets better. The Walden association needs to see how well run, how well maintained is the similar course Fairway Hills in Columbia.
Greens are immaculate.
17 out of 18 greens were immaculate. They were so good you really can't walk on someone's line. Tee boxes were in bad shape but as long as i can put a tee in the ground i can care less what the tee box looks like. Fairways were so so. I really enjoyed playing this course. It challenges your ability to make great shots.
Quirky course
course was in fair condition overall. Greens rolled pretty well, but rough was bare, crabgrass, and very inconsistent, and fairway quality varied widely. course is very narrow and quirky; a few holes--numbers 2, 5 and 13 in particular stand out--are of pretty questionable design. overall not a bad course for the money, but i wouldn't rush back.
Nice Course, Great Price
Greens were in great shape. Had a bit of a wait on a few tee boxes, but other than that no problems.
Favorite course
I enjoyed playing Walden this summer.
The staff is always friendly & accommodating.
The course is one of my favorites.
I highly recommend playing Walden.
Accuracy is a premium
Most of the greens are in good condition with various breaks and mound. The fairways are not well kept. The layout is narrow and requires accuracy. The course gives you various looks and option off the tee.
Fairways are horrible
Fairways does not look like fairways, greens are not maintained. Last time i played here its okay but now it looks like a cheap golf course.
Challenging and fun
I've played this course a number of times starting last year. Really enjoy the interesting layout. Staff is always friendly. Course is always in good condition. The greens were in excellent condition except for #15, which is getting better as time goes by. Tough job keeping that one up to par. Tip of the cap to the greens keeper on the job done since last year. Hole #2 has got to be one of the toughest holes on this course and deserves the rating of #1 handicap. It could also be in the running for one of the most difficult holes in the area.
walden country club
front 9 terrible condition...balls in so-called fairway but could not find... cannot tell where to play ball...greens ok...played at discounted golf now rate but not worth the drive or the money....hard to figure out how the course got good reviews unless staff wrote them...
Excellent conditions
18 holes; 3.5 hours
Greens; excellent
Fairways; very good
Tee boxes; need some work
Overall, a great value. The new management has turned the course around from where it was a few years ago.
best green condition in 10 years
very amazed at how good the greens have gotten. Lots of good work by the new super and management team. Still a short target style course. we played as a twosome on a saturday morning and played in under 4 hours.Only suggestion was edible ice on the beverage cart.
Nice clubhouse
Minus the wetness, the course was sweet and had no problem scoring well
Great value for money
There were only two problems,,,,1) the weather...it had rained everyday for last week or so and this course is in a river basin so it was very wet in area, but the greens were remarkable even with all the rain. 2) Quite possibly the slowest round of golf I ever played. 4 kids in front of us who thought they were Tiger Woods waiting for greens to clear to hit second shots twice as far as their tee balls went. No crime in being a bad golfer, but horrible crime in being a SLOW golfer. A roving marshal would have helped. 5 hours 43 minutes to play a 6000 yard course is painfully slow, considering I normally play it in under 3 by myself and 4:20 with a foursome. So add a roving marshal! Love the place though and for the money no better value in Maryland!
Good Shape
This was the fourth time I've played this course this year and it's in the best condition....played Friday morning at 9am and never had to wait in a hole...great value and would def recommend playing....two suggestions.....fill bunkers with sand I was able to putt out if them twice due to no sand and the course needs better yardage markers other than that nice course and can't wait to play again

ALL 18 HOLES AND THE BRIDGE ARE OPENED! The bridge is not and was not condemned at any point. The bridge, after an inspection that was done on Tuesday was however closed for two days, Thursday and Friday while necessary repairs were being made. This was communicated as quickly as possible once we were given the information. We do apologize that your experience was not pleasurable and hope you will give Walden another chance.
