My Favorite course in the Mid-Atlantic area.
My Favorite course with the exception of the high rough and very windy conditions conditions today, made it very difficult. I still enjoyed the greens and the challenges the course presented.
The greens Roll True and are some of the best I have seen.
The hardest course you’ll ever love
Not in it usual pristine condition, but always a good time. We had an issue on the 3 rd hole that made the rest of the day uncomfortable. Bunkers are well maintained but need more sand, only about 1/2 inch sand and rock hard underneath. At least in the two bunkers I was in.
Great course Fair conditions
It was our first time playing here and unfortunately it was so wet it really affected our play. But if it were a little dryer this course would have gotten a 5 star rating.
Midweek Round at "Maryland's Best"
Bulle Rock has excellent amenities. A short game range and full range that are included in the greens fee. We teed off right at our tee time and finished as a foursome in 4 hours. The design is excellent. There are a few holes that have been clearly updated to improve rate of play (the par 5 on the back comes to mind) which takes away from the original design.
The conditions were decent for what I had expected. Deemed "Maryland's Best" for daily fee play, I expected better conditions. The tees had some issues with uniformity and grass heights were all over the place. The greens had been badly bruised from aeration several weeks ago. Additionally, it looked like they tried to triplex the greens when it was too wet leading to scalped areas in spots.
Poor Condition
When you go out of the way to play a Top 100 Public Course in the country, expectations are high. Unfortunately expectations were nowhere near reality.
The greens, although recently aerated, are patchy and in poor shape. Fairways matched. Worse shape than most municipals I play.
They don’t allow push carts because “this is a 5-star course” per one of the staff. Anyone who’s used a hand cart knows it provides a better pace of play and has no effect on damaging the course.
So you either have to carry your bag or take a cart. It was cart path only so on top of terrible conditions, the round took 4h45m because of cart path only. Mostly the groups ahead.
Will likely not return.

Course has degenerated from a high end course to a local municipal course with the usual maintenance problems. Greens were patchy and some fairways were spotted with bare spots.
Rained out
We arrived to a tournament that was supposed to go off at 9am and didn’t til 10am, so an hour behind from the get-go. It rained after our fifth hole and the horn blew us in. Hopefully Golfnow will be able to give me/us a refund, even though you’ve changed my membership benefits in the middle of the membership, by taking away all the benefits of the Golfpass+ and making it a regulate Golfpass one, while I still have the 2 months that YOU added because of Covid - hopefully this will get settled and I won’t have to write another note bashing your treatment of loyal VIP / Golfpass+ members
One of the best Courses in Maryland/Mid Atlantic
A great Pete Dye track that is challenging and beautiful. The conditions are very good. One of the best short game and warm-up areas you can find.
Monday Hot Deal
Snagged a $50 Hot Deal at 11am on a Monday and the weather was just as hot. I’ve only played here in tournaments so I was excited to play it 1 to 18, but on Monday and Thursdays the play back to front, not my choice but lived playing it that way. 9 should be 18 anyway it’s a great finishing hole. Course in great shape, it’s a great track and a must play.
Bulle Rocke
Very nice challenging course with top-notch practice area and driving range. The negatives are: the pace of play was way too slow (5 hours), many golfers do not replace ball marks on greens and some holes the rough is way too high which contributed to the slow play, e.g., waited for 2 groups on 18 - about 20 minute wait. While a course of this quality should have high rough there are areas like around the perimeter of some sand traps where it is totally unfair with the high, untended grass. The course management needs to look at where the bottlenecks are and make appropriate adjustments to speed up play so average rounds are 4.5 hours.
Worth the money spent
Very nicely kept golf course. Very challenging but everyone can play. Only problem we faced was too slow pace of play otherwise golf course in very good condition.
The thing I hated most was carts only on cart path rule. That wastes too much time going and coming back to your cart and defeats the purpose of riding a cart. Too much time wasted during foursome going back and forth to get clubs and identify your ball especially in hot weather.
Otherwise loved the layout and will play here soon

Snagged a great deal $50 for an 11am on a Monday, pace was good but I wish people would admit that they need to move along because searching for that golf ball here causes backups. If you spend the money to play here, you can afford golf balls.
