Course needs work, too many ruts and tree roots.
I'm hoping the staff will work on improving the course since the city took it over. There are way too many ruts and tree roots which interfere with play. Too many balls go lost due to hitting tree roots, twigs, and pine cones everywhere. The ball should not have that many interferences which cause bounce anywhere and everywhere. Cart path asphalt is mostly torn up with too many pot holes. Overall it's just OK. It's frustrating as maintenance and cleanup could be a lot better. I'm thinking of re-evaluating how often I play there.
Memorial Day
Played in a threesome, two walking and one cart rider. Memorial Day seemed to have better playing conditions than the day before, as the course had been wet. Good outing, pace was good, but kept having to wait for the foursome ahead of us.
Good course
A great day!
Need to get the cart service going.
The greens need some work.
Golfnow price
Golfnow advertised $45. When I checked in. They charged $55 and said golfnow was wrong. Either way, this public course is maybe worth $25. Cups were not moved for sometime. Each cup was caving in and the grass was dead. Very tight course with tee boxes side by side, almost got hit several times. Our cart was also hit on the fly.
First Time, not last.
Overall, the day was excellent except for the counter guy. He was a butt. Not helpful from the start. Rather rude. He kept adding folks to our group as we were teeing off. Other than that, the wife and I had a great day.
Bowie Golf Course
Excellent playing conditions. The course is in great shape!
Can not wait until snack bar and beverage carts are working.
Bowie is working to update the course, the greens look great. The course is working on drainage issues, thinning out trees, etc. They still need to get more bathrooms on the course, have beverage carts out, snack bar/grill open and water on the course.
Surprising gem in Bowie- will be back!
Wanting to play in the middle of the week and on short notice, the Bowie Golf Course popped up and I admit I had some pretty low expectations- I was pleasantly surprised!
This is a great course, not long (plays about 6100 from the tips) but a fun layout. The greens were actually in really great shape and were pretty consistent front to back. The sand traps are not well groomed but didn't expect glistening white BS showpieces. The surrounding areas (rough, woods, cart paths, between hole areas, etc.) are not the manicured landscape some expect but it is a municipal course that looks to be working very hard to tie things together. That was one of the GREAT indicators- There was a ton of activity working on the course overall to round out the place suggesting the place is headed in the right direction! I can't wait to head back in the coming weeks/months to play again because there seems to be a LOT of positive work going on there.
I played with a senior pair that knew the course well and have been playing for decades along with a 4th that was a mid-handicapper who was also very familiar with the course but hit the ball a little longer. He and I played from the tips and the old friends played from the gold. Was a great day indeed!
I will say that I had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed Bowie! The course was in remarkably good shape and was a ton of fun. The best part was the accidental pairing with "regulars" that tells me this place is someplace I will happily come back to.
The biggest detractor was the restaurant/snack bar was closed apparently due to transitions of management and the local health department getting synced. A mobile beverage cart, water coolers set out (places there but nothing put out) and the option for a burger or dog at the turn or after the round would make this place well worth a LOT more in fees!
No doubt will be back, hoping for the addition of a beverage cart and some food offerings!!
Starter was very accommodating
Second time in two weeks I played there. Had a tee time of 8:12 am, partner was older gentleman and and we were told we would be playing in a foursome. We arrived early and were able to go off as a twosome, thanks to the understanding starter.
Good course for the $
Course was in pretty good shape. New carts and they r def doing more work taking out trees etc than in last few years. Still no bar/grill but hopefully they get that fixed soon. Greens were a little slow but all in all a good course for the price.
