Great Sunday
Given the time of year, March, the course was in very good conditions. It was cart path only, and I guess that's why the fairways were great. Bunkers were the best I've seen in the area. Well maintained. Greens were firm. This was the first time I played this course, and I would play in the future. The Hot Deal $12 green fee was also a great deal. Looking forward to returning.
Great experience
This was the first time playing this course. I found it to be in good condition, well maintained and a good layout. Cart path only rules for the winter, until March 15. Fairways in good shape, and the bunkers were excellent. Since this was my first round, there were some lay up shots. I would definitely would consider playing again with a Hot Deal.
Lovely course that has a real variety of holes to challenge you.
I have played this course a few times now and on this last occasion I equaled my best score there (85) which always makes the experience more enjoyable.
Given that I had a hot-deal from Golfnow.com for 12 bucks (+3.49 booking fee) on a Sunday morning it was a delight all round. I would normally expect to find a deal for about $35-40 at the right time.
It was also the first time I've played after the bridge was repaired between the 6th and 7th holes, which cuts a round down by at least 10 minutes as golfers no longer have to back-track around the course to get from the 6th green to the 7th tee.
For those that don't know, the bridge was swept away by storms last Summer (that also swept away much of Ellicott City) and it has taken 8 months to restore the 100m bridge/gangway, however, the golf club have been magnificent in the way they have co-ordinated golf around this catastrophic set-back for them.
With all that behind them, I would definitely recommend this course for all standards of golf, where it lacks in distance in makes up for in tight and tricky holes, I really enjoy playing there and have been subject to a wide range of scores, I will be returning.
Blowing
The wind was blowing +/- 15 mph and it was 50 degrees.. What a day; but it was fun
Pleasantly surprised
Love the lay-out, course not long but it has plenty of bit if your not on your game. Of course the fairways were dormant (late-Feb) to be expected, greens were moderate not slow but not quick either. Front nine was a challenge especially if this is your first time out (look at the score card), back nine is a challenge wow! We played from the white tee and it's a great track to keep you thinking through out the entire round. Was a little slow on the front but the back nine picked up and it was smooth sailing from there, highly recommend and at $25.00 from Golfnow you just cant beat the deal! Range was a little on the small side but the experience out weighed that, highly recommend. Enjoy!!!!
Friendly staff, fun course
There was some confusion between the clubs computers and GolfNow. The staff was very polite and I was able to start right away while they sorted things out. The course has some challenging par 3's and some fun 4's and 5's. The greens were in great condition for February.
All's well that ends well
I booked a 12:40pm tee time for 3 for $35. It was about 55 degrees partly sunny on a Saturday, so that was a great deal. It's about an hour from DC, so when we realized we might be about 5-10 minutes late, I called the pro-shop to let them know. When I got in the Pro-Shop, it was 12:43pm and we were all ready to go. The guy in the pro shop told us he couldn't get us out until 2:20pm. We had a little disagreement and then we went outside to sort everything out with the starter/ranger, Mike. Mike=great guy. Seems like he keeps everything running smoothly. We got paired up with a guy named Wayne, who was the funniest guy of all time. It was winter time, so the grass was dormant, but you could tell it is very well-maintained and probably looks gorgeous in the summertime. The course wasn't long on the scorecard, but plays a bit longer than it seems. I found myself hitting shorter clubs off the tee to stay in position, which meant more irons and less wedges into greens. All things considered, good layout, great winter conditions. Based on other reviews it seems like the staff is pretty friendly overall, so I guess the guy in the pro-shop was just having a bad day. Had a great day on the course and away from the city.
Winter round when it was raining but it was great. Very nice staff, they let me move my tee time back when it was pouring out. Fairways are all bermuda or zoysia grass but play well in the winter even if when they aren't actively growing. Greens were wonderful even in February. Definitely will be coming back to this course.
Good Winter deal
Paid $15 total for a 50 degree day. Course conditions were fine for Winter, as expected. This is basically a wooded, urban setting, with some highways and houses.
There are some really challenging holes like the 420 yard from the white tees, par 4, 16th. Although length is not the issue, there are dogleg par 5's which require 3 good shots, which is fine. Will go back.
Winter Gold Fairway Hills
Excellent price for a round of winter golf. The course was in great shape being winter. Greens were fairly well. Temp around 43 so not tom many golfer took advantage. Pace of play excellent. Temp and cost made this a great alternative to hitting balls a the range...Cabin Fever
Nice track
This course is challenging and fun, there are some blind shots but that's ok makes you think before each shot, you can increases your skill level by playing there . The greens are decent, some of the fairways are narrow but that's makes you keep your mind on the game.
Hot Deal at Fairway Hills
I booked a "hot deal" which was an excellent price. I played alone and the pace was great although conditions were very wet from previous day rain and course was cart path only. Carts were brand new and just being unloaded from the truck at the course. Course still recovering from storm damage that causes players to back track from hole #6 back past #1-5 and then #8-9 to get to hole #7; very awkward but with only few players there was no danger driving back into oncoming players and balls but totally not walkable due to distance from hole 6 back to hole 7. Greens were in fair shape at best, some had bare areas and others showed evidence of sod patches. Overall, not bad for late fall/early winter golf. Course is tight and chance to lose balls is high. Course is not worth the usual rate but for hot deal was a very good price.
Bridge Update
BRIDGE UPDATE: bridge still out
Some greens are in rough shape but everything else is solid for this time of year
Greens need help
There are some interesting challenges on some holes and overall the course is pretty good, but two major issues are some of the greens were in really bad shape and there is a bridge out that connects 6-7 so they start you out on the back nine and you have to go on this ridiculous 5-minute excursion backtracking half the course to finish holes 7- 9 ... not for walkers
