best fall golf in central md
I played on 10/24 right after a couple days of rain. The golf course in in really good shape for mid-fall. I typically play here in the summer, but will come back more often during the offseason. I appreciate the staff getting me out on a busy October day.
Rainy, but was still fun
We played in the rain this past weekend. Other than getting wet, we had a blast. The course is in good shape, the layout was hard. It's a solid track.
Top 3 Worst Golf Experiences
I've struggled to find anything positive today after our 7 hole experience at "The Timbers at Troy." Do not ignore other's negative reviews like we did, they are unfortunately accurate.
*Tee times are not followed by the marshal. Thus leading to slow, inefficient play as other large groups tee off one after the other. There was no 10 minute gap between groups.
*Upon stepping on the first tee box you realize you've spent entirely too much money to be playing on course conditions you'd experience to play at half the cost. I know, it's later in the season, but wow, the conditions are in line with a $20-25 course.
*No marshals patrol the course to ensure pace of play is consistent. This leads to frustrations by all players and multiple groups queuing up two to three deep at each hole. Again, had the marshal at the first hole been following the reservations this would be less of an issue.
*Don't bother offering any constructive criticism to the staff. One of our female group members was told by a male in a condescending manner, "That's golf miss." She's played golf her entire life, today's negative experience is unique to the poor management at "The Timbers at Troy." It's sad that females are still talked down to in a sport that's struggling to grow it's female player base. Ever wonder why you don't see more females on the course? Because of entitled men who feel comfortable talking down to females even though it's the year 2020.
*Our group left, did not finish even 9 holes, and were offered a "free" round of golf as a consolation. We will not be returning, ever.
Fun course
I’ve played this course several times while flying in and out of BWI on Business
A very nice course well maintained and fun to play a good value for the money
Nice course to play
I just love Timbers At Troy. It’s not too long but a great test of golf. Not too difficult to get tee times . Course conditions are really good and pace of play is just right . Overall great bang for your buck. The clubhouse has a nice changing area with lockers .The refreshment cart comes round frequently
Day at Timbers of Troy
Course was in bad shape mostly due to aeration of the greens and fair way. The course has the bones of nice track but like most public courses it is over priced, over played and slow.
I did like the bunker sand and positioning. The greens have great potential but not this day.
The staff are professional and well organized. I started at about 2 so it was over 90 and humid.
3rd visit this month
It was my third visit this month, and I knew it was aeration on the fairway and the green, but I felt bad every time I stepped on it, spraying duck dung on the grass.
2nd visit this month
This is my second visit this month, the worst of which is due to aeration on the fairways and greens.
So so
It is a golf course that is frequently visited when traveling to the United States. It's a pity that the fairway and green are getting worse over time.
Some fairways were patchy but overall good. Tee boxes and greens were better than average for late in the season.
I will be back to play
Course is beat up
People don’t repair ball marks and staff obviously doesn’t either. Dead spots all over the course and even on fringes and greens. Some tee boxes are all sand and no grass. Great course but just worth the dollar at this moment.
Ehhhhhhh
I wouldn’t say it was worth the money. Difficult layout which they pride themselves on according to the starter. Pace of play is pretty slow but I’m guessing that’s due to the layout and difficulty. A lot of grassy weeds slowly popping up on greens and fairways. Greens were super slow. The course gets a ton of play.
Shocked at the course conditions!
I have played this course in a 9 hole league the past 2 years, so I’m familiar with the course. I’ve been on travel for a month and decided to invite a friend to play on Thu (7/25). The course had been making good progress in its journey back to playability the past couple years, but I was really shocked at how much it’s regressed in just a month. Very disappointed for my friend, an avid golfer who recently moved into the area and was looking for a regular course close to home. The tee boxes are chopped up and filled with divot repair mix, the fairways are missing grass everywhere, and the greens are browned out, but still rolled semi-decently. I do appreciate the new bunkers and cart path replacements, so I’m still hopeful the new ownership can keep working/investing to get this superb layout up to the standards (and green fees) it deserves.
July 23
It was ugly and rainy and although we came to the course with our foursome, we decided not to play in the rain. We were totally refunded both our round as well as our booking fee on Golf Now with no arguments or hesitations.. In this day and age, that is exceptional service. Thank you, we will return to this site and this golf course.
Best,

disappointed
I play this course a lot and was disappointed at the pace of play. I was in a threesome following a foursome. they played extremely and we were waiting on every tee box to tee off. they had open holes on front of them. if there would have been a marshall out there, they would have had them skip a hole. after 12 holes, I called it a day.
