Good Shape Considering
This time of year nothing is pristine but the course was in very good shape. Though the greens had been recently aerated the rolled very true. Staff was friendly. Very good value compared to Balto. CO. / City courses. Really, No comparison for the price, $35 with cart.
Know when to close
I was shocked that this course was even open considering all of the water on the course. They obviously have serious drainage (and budget) problems. Add to that; the greens were air-aided with the largest holes I've ever seen in 35 yrs of golf, and had large bare patches. We had some approach shots that took 90 degree bounces when they landed on the green(s). Every shot into a fairway plugged, every putt bounced like a basketball. We almost quit after 9, but figured we'd tough it out. I will not be going back. Anyone that played this course on March 31st, 2014 should get a refund. I feel sorry for the friendly staff.
What round?
I made the reservation, flew from Louisville KY to Baltimore and rented a hotel and a car to play at Timbers. They were closed - hard not been open for weeks and never bothered to tell me. They still charged me, which I am trying still to get back. DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE!
Fun challenging and convenient!
I played timbers for the first time last summer, for the city limits bar tournament. Even though it was a scrabble format (not my preferance) I fell in love with timbers. It's not an incredibly long course, but offers enough challenge for all handicaps. Timbers has a top spot in my once a week foursome outting!! Keep up the good work guys! You'll def see me soon.
Ps: I'm not sure the pros name, but every time I've been , he's been incredibly approachable and nice. He even helped one of our guys change out his spikes.
Good Course
I play this course several times a year, rarely disappointed in the conditions. This round was no exception. Good conditions tee thru green with a few trouble spots. They did have the some of the tees unusually long or short (probably saving the main tees for the spring) which add some variety to the usual round.
the greens were good and they were holding shots to the greens
Cart girl came around 3 times. The guy in the Pro Shop and the Starter were real pleasant. The greens were good, just need golfers to fix there ball marks and another ball mark or two. Atleast 3 or 4 holes had leaves all over the greens. The fairways were OK (fix your divots) , just tuff because of a lot of blind tee shots. Tee boxes were OK. Course is in average conditions, probably would be alot better late spring early summer. I would recommend this course to my friends. I have played some real nice courses this year and this course ranks in the top of the bottom half.
Slow round
One of the only public courses in Howard county means its always a 5 hour round. No one fixes their pitch marks on the greens. A fun course yet not nearly worth the $$$ they charge.
Great track that needs some attention
It has been years since I played Timber at Troy. So, I was looking forward to getting back there. The track itself is very interesting - although there are several blind tee shots in which directional flags would speed up play.
Their practice facilities are pretty good, small chipping green, both natural grass and artificial mats on the driving range. Putting green is in good condition.
Most of the fairways were in good to very good condition, but there were areas where the turf had either too much or too little water - unplayable patches on almost fairway.
The greens were particularly beat up. Players MUST fix their ball marks. Every green had dozens and dozens of ball marks that players had left without fixing. It is the number one area that Timbers must attend to improve playability.
Nice course to play for a good deal
I liked playing here and would play here again. We were able to get a real good rate to come play here and really enjoyed my day here. The staff was friendly but also didn't really go out of their way to help which is fine with me. The course is challenging and had some interesting holes. I would play here again if i got the same great deal. Im still pretty new at golf and don't like the idea of paying more than $50 on a round when i bound to lose another $20 in balls lolol
Get what you pay for
The summer heat took its toll on the course...played there in years past and it was much nicer. Greens were beaten to death and fairways had some spotty sections.
Challenging greens, surprisingly fast pace on Saturday afternoon.
Starter showed great interest in keeping people moving--provide a card to post on the card showing our tee time and calculations for when we should finish holes during the round. Also said they would have marshals encouraging people to keep up pace. Seemed to work! Affects of heat in the summer showed itself on the fairways. Greens were very fast and in good shape. Enjoyed the round
Nice layout, a little rough around the edges
A lot of thick forest all over the course, easy to lose your ball. I did go into the forest looking for my ball and came back with 9.....I was in surplus for the round. Fairways were a little rough, can't be blamed they had a lot of rain lately.
For $30 on a saturday tho you can't go wrong
Great layout, but poor and messy fairways
I've played this course a total of 3 times in the last 10 years, and this was a very disappointing round. Granted the day was a little rainy and the course was soft, but there were many fairways missing grass on the fairway. The $52 price (10% off), was really not worth it and I was a little embarrassed bringing along a business associate. I doubt I will be back.
Can be a gem if they put some work into it
First time playing this course. they need to put dome work on the fairways and tee boxes. will play it again only on a hot deal.
Great design, poor shape
Fairways in really bad shape with burned grass, water damage, and dry areas. Greens not much better. Lot's of spike marks and dry areas. Also looks like the golfers aren't respecting the course either with a large number of unrepaired divots. Not even worth the discounted $33 greens fee.
needs work for the price
this course was not in great shape when i played. the fairways looked like the gopher from caddy shack came through it. the greens were bumpy and had divots all over it. the sand traps were not light and fluffy, but more of a hard dirt (granted it rained the night before). i would not play this course for the full price of what it normally charges, but it was fine for a discounted tee time.
Great day of golf
Great course, some narrow fairways that widen out near the greens. Well maintained will definitely head back for another round !
This course is great at the right price.
This course is absolutely worth it in the $40 -$50 price range but when they charge more than that isn't worth while. The course has some decent character and plenty of areas where you can go O.B. It isn't an extremely long course but that doesn't mean it is easy unless you are a very accurate golfer.
The staff are all friendly. I am under the impression that the management must not care too much about the course because they wouldn't leave so unfixed many ball marks all over the greens if so. With a little better conditioning this could be an awesome course, but as of now it is only an okay course.
Good Course, but..
I have played this course several times and enjoyed it again this weekend. The course is always in good shape, challenging but fair, with enough trouble to keep you thinking.
Only problem was lack of carts. We had a 4:12 tee time and they had only one cart. First time my start was ever delayed because of no carts available. We eventually got our round started but needed some help getting up big hills because our electric cart was running out of juice.
Overall great time with great friends.
