This course could be great but needs attention.
I played this course a year ago and the bunkers are in the same poor condition. Why that hasn't been addressed is beyond me. Pace of play is an issue as well. I saw Marshalls regularly yet many times there would be three groups on a hole.
Great course
Enjoyed playing the course, some challenges. Would definitely recommend.
Course was in great shape!
Had a great time golfing at Timbers! Greens & fairways were beautiful & would play there again for sure!
Short from white tees but rating is high
Played from the white tees which is 5616 yards but is rated 130 at that distance. There are many environmental areas and some areas that require very accurate shots. The greens were slow and the course was very wet and did not seem to dry out very much even by noon. I don't know whether it was wet from rain or sprinklers but there were many mushy areas.
good game management course
very friendly staff. challenging enough from the tee, but overall length allowed for options that didn't always require hitting driver. greens were very receptive and although evidence of recent aerification, putts rolled nicely.
This course has elevation change
Fairly tight holes but room for bailout. Rewards keeping it in the fairway as the rough can get long in spots. Elevation changes and blind tee shots are challenging for the first time playing the course. Not a long course with the tips playing at just over 6600 yards.
fun par 3's
Spent the day with my girlfriend on the course. Good day, both weather and the course.
Interesting course. Definitely fun to play.
I play Timbers a lot. It is one of my favorite courses in the area. The layout is interesting- different mix of holes that winds around through the woods. it requires a good tee shot as a number of the fairways are fairly narrow with trouble on one side or the other. As for course conditions, some of the tee boxes could use some loving-14 for example was in rough shape. The only other issue right now, which I expect to change once the weather improves, are the bunkers. Not much sand in many of them and lots of pebbles and rocks- definitely need to check for rocks before hitting out of the bunkers. Had a great out on 10 but almost nailed one of my group who was standing on the other side of the green with a rock that flew out along with the sand. Despite that, I would recommend.
Decent course, but not worth "regular" prices
Got a golf now deal which was a nice little discount over the 55-60 they want for a regular weekday. The course is decent overall, with groomed fairways and not-too-deep roughs. However, some of the sand was rocky and hard, and the greens were recently aerated, which was a disappointment.
I would give this course a 3 rating given the full retail price. For the discounted price I paid, I give it a 4.
Greens and Bunkers
Fun layout. Unfortunately both times I have played here the greens were recently stamped.
Many of the bunkers are atrocious with huge rocks. Some are pristine. It's really odd.
Starting to look good
The range is nice, as is the putting green. The chipping green area is a bit small and awkwardly placed, though.
Pro shop staff and starter were friendly and accommodating.
Course had been aerated on 4/1/13, but was still quite playable. The fairways were really coming in well, for the time of year. As a whole, the course really was in pretty good shape.
This course has a nice layout, but it is VERY short from the whites. If you usually play the whites, you should play the blues or blacks here. I drove two consecutive greens on the front... The par 5 ninth hole is kind of a messed up layout - if you are straight or left off the tee you have no second shot. Not a big fan of par 5s that penalize tee shots in two directions.
Anyway, good course in every regard, but the full rate might still be a little high. (But maybe that's because I still haven't adjusted to the DMV greens fees compared to my native Detroit.)
I'll be back!
This is one of Maryland's best kept secret, this was my first time playing here and let me tell you it was cool and windy but I didn’t mind one bit! The course was in pretty good shape considering the elements and how early in the season it is but the fairways and greens were in great shape (greens were quick and ran true). I'm not one for spending a lot of cash on course early the season and you really can't beat the deal through golfnow.com, it’s a challenging course which make it fun for the real golf enthusiast. Can't wait for the good weather, I'll be back!
Timbers at Troy
Considering the time of year, (February), this course was in surprisingly good condition -- greens were a little bumpy, but, they were one of the few courses in the area open for play -- they even allowed carts off the path. My buddy & I played in 3 hours 20 minutes -- what's not to like?
good track 4 discount
played for $30 due 2 golfnow.com & it was well worth it.
Excellent value at a great course!
Really enjoyed my round of golf. Course provided a good challenge and the price was really good!
Good and Bad
The course has a beautiful layout and poses some interesting challenges. The greens are in fair condition but need attention. No rangers patrol to see that folks repair ball marks and not much attempt by the course maintenance to repair them is evident. The bunkers are in a sad state - lots of rocks, poor drainage.
Rates are excessively high for the area, unless you get the "Hot Deal" through GolfNow. For that I recommend the course; otherwise, I would not.
Good course with a variety of holes
This is one of my favorite courses in my area. It is always well maintained, even in the winter. Pace of play was good for a Saturday morning.
This course was well maintained and i like the layout
I played on a warm Sunday after a cold spell and every golfer came out to play. That was the reason for the slow play. However, I will not hesitate to play it again.
challenging course in great condition.
Large greens that reward shots at the pin. Runup shots are an available option, so the holes are playable for different games. Hilly terrain makes club selection important, since some greens are actually two clubs uphill. Several blind tee shots, but others will have you trying to reach the par 4 in one. Good misses are needed on the" long" side. Played here several times, blue and white tees, loved it. 12 hdcpr
