Never disappoints
Played here day after the city amateur. Front nine was being aerated but the back nine conditions were close to tournament conditions with fast and smooth greens. The course can be fun and get table from the whites but down right diabolical from the tips.
Worst golf experience
1. I arrived at 12:00 PM for a 12:40 PM tee time. because there was a tournament that morning, no carts were ready, but the lady at the pro-shop kept saying 'you'll be fine'. At 12:40 PM, 12:30 PM group and I were waiting for a cart, which were coming one by one every 5-8 minutes. My group ended up teeing off at 1PM.
2. I play every weekend, summer or winter, all over DMV area, and this was worst wait time between each shot. Never lost sight of the team in front of us or behind us.
3. For the first time ever in my life, I only played 15 out of 18 holes. 16th hole is a par 3, which is usually slower. But when we finished 15, there was a team teeing off at 16, and three groups in the que behind them. I have never seen anything like that before. We were already well over four hours at that point, and we figured it would take more than two hours to clear hole 16, 17, and 18.
4. Course is fine... nothing crazy, not beautiful or difficult, just there. Better than courses like East Potomac, Penderbrook, or Herndon Centenial. Probably similar to Algonkian? Worst than Potomac Shores, Stone Wall, Laurel Hill, Bristow, Bull Run, Blue Ridge, Maryland National, Twin Lakes, or Blue Mash.
5. Never playing here again. This was my first time but 12:30 PM group was a local and he said expect a 6-hour play even before we tee'd off at hole 1.
Clustered Spires
Very nice course for the price you pay. In great condition.
Great course especially for the price!
Course is kept in great shape. Green’s pretty quick and fairways lush. Newer carts as well.
A keeper
Clustered Spires is always booked...it's a very popular local golf course and has a lot of play. I felt fortunate to get an early tee time on a Saturday...the four of us drove about an hour to get there. The course was in excellent condition--greens were a tad fast but certainly playable, and the greens were in great shape. The rough was a little penal, but you just needed to take an additional club to get out of it (or stay in the fairway). The pace of play was a tad slow and, with 90+ degree temps, we were looking for trees to wait under. I was surprised there was no access to the Pro Shop (to save AC costs as another reviewer mentioned), but check in was still easy and efficient from outside at the little window. If you can get a tee time, Clustered Spires is always a good challenge and a nice tract.
Clubhouse/Pro Shop
Fairways/rough/traps ok. ...Greens were slow...Played as a 4some in 4 hours...Waited every shot. No ranger on the course. 90 degrees and only lukewarm water available on the course. Common for this facility. Grill was rationing ice. Could not enter pro shop unless u were first granted permission. Reason cited was to " save on AC bill". Give me a break. Fix the AC, get a bigger ice machine or go to a grocery store a mile away and purchase some ice! Not that complicated!
Can’t beat the price!
I always enjoy playing CS. I’m always surprised that the green fees are so cheap. The course condition and layout is that of a way more expensive course. I’d recommend for sure!
JR- Clustered Spires
Love this course for the value. Greens are quick and the course is in great shape. Challenging holes and a fun course to play.
