Maplegate Country Club

About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Pace of play
For a Friday morning I get the first delay but from tee off till finish 5 hour round is not ideal I had too quit after 15th hole.. And the maintenance crew blowing the leaves was literally following us the whole round and not once would they give us respect and shut the blower off for a shot or putt.. very aggravating
Tee Box Problems
This course is typically in decent shape and I come here once or twice a year. This year the tee boxes were in very poor shape. humped, patchy, sand filled and with little grass to speak of. Greens are still in good shape. Fairways are ok but there is sparse grass outside the fairways and mainly bare and rocky.
Fantastic Course
Very good course. Conditions are very good. Pace of play could be better but overall this is a great place to play and the staff are very friendly
Expensive, slow and bad
Only place in the area with consistent 5+ hour rounds. No grass on the tee boxes. More sand on the tee boxes than in the bunkers. Save your money.
pace
The course overall was solid and challenging.
My only complaint is the front took us 3 hours to play ,the back we finished in 2 hours ,so a 5 hour round is not idea.
good course, porr facilities
will be great if they have some pull carts for walking players
Too many people in the course
they move me without telling me from a 9:50 to a 10:04 teatime.. teetimes were too close together and we’ were waiting on every hole. The front 9 took us three hours to complete. I won’t be returning
Sold? Say it ain't so!
If the rumors are true that the course will be closed permanently at the end of the season, it is a sad day. Maplegate is a fun, different course with all the amenities of a fancier course but with accessible pricing especially through golfnow or at non-peak hours. But I fear it is true - as many tee box signs were missing and several tee boxes were sandy and worn out.
We still had a great time. The course wasn't terribly crowded for a Labor Day weekend. The fairways and greens were in great condition, the drink cart came around 2+ times, and the clubhouse had food and drinks with quick service. The driving range was empty most of the time too. Very odd, but a great round nonetheless.
Crowded start and marshmallows.
I booked a last minute late afternoon slot for my son and I. At the time of booking there was no one booked anywhere near us. When we arrived there was 3 foursomes of teenage kids lined up at the first tee, at the time of our tee time. I booked a cart, but all the groups ahead were walkers. I’m not sure how or why that many groups were able to be added last minute but it was frustrating. The last group let us play through now starting 20ish minutes after our tee time. As we started playing when looking for our golf balls on the fairway we noticed someone had placed marshmallows all over the fairways (for the first 9 holes at least) to trick people’s eyes when looking for their shots. Eventually as we got to the turn some of the groups of kids had all joined up and there was at least 9 of them playing in one group.
I had heard good things about maplegate, but I left extremely disappointed and won’t be going back.
Nice Round at Maplegate
I haven't played Maplegate in awhile because pace of play is usually horrible especially on Front 9. My round started mid afternoon so course not overly crowded so pace of play not an issue. Course is overall very good condition except my only complaint was blue tee markers on every hole were with white tee markers. Is it a big problem to have the course move blue markers to correct location on tee box?
Challenging
Good course layout . Challenging for us senior golfers. Too may divot marks on the greens
front nine was brutal. Really slow. No ranger in sight. played behind a couple and their 2 grade school kids. We watched while they gave them on the course instruction and multiple extra shots. Greens were pitted. I don't think any of the patrons their have ever used or heard of a divot tool. off the fairway was dirt and weeds, no rough to speak of. Range balls were probably from the turn of the century. I took customers here and was thoroughly embarrassed. Not at all what I expected or saw on the golf now web site.
Money grab crazy close tee times
They slam tee times together, advertising gorgeous driver holes. It’s a lot irons on the front 9, given the marshy areas at 225-75 yards on multiple holes. Tee times 3-4 min apart make you constantly wait. Don’t waste your money go play anywhere else
Pretty good
Course was in good shape. Played with a young couple. It was a good experience
