Maplegate Country Club

About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Grounds crew in full display
…watering…grass cutting as the warm weather makes it presence felt…and tee boxes are being given some time to regenerate
Green fast…fairways give good roll… if you slice bring a good spotter and the front nine will eat them up
You will be challenged with elevated green and. fun undulations … only to remind us all to putt TWO balls for every one used at the driving range…
Awful Starter
The starter was truly just absolutely horrible. He was rude to everyone as they were starting and if you had a bad shot he’d mock you and tell you how long you would be there like he expects everyone to be a scratch golfer. I absolutely hated the starter and couldn't break through mentally for like 5 holes because he just kept following me and my group. Overall the course was great but it was poorly marked on which hole was which and there were some crowded holes that could be easily mistaken for the next hole but were actually on the back nine while I was on the front. Overall I hope the staff changes soon and the old cranky men who run this place get pushed out for a more modern approach.
Great shape!
Great shape for early spring, an enjoyable, always challenging 18.
Not okay at the price
I would pay $20 to play, not $45. The course was either saturated or hard packed dirt.
Still
… grounds crew working hard to make it better each day and successfully moving, albeit still dealing with Mother Nature and soggy sand trap or two …
Play the course and expect elevation changes, ponds, and so river/swale vegetation to test each club
Play it
Brrrr
Great shape for this time of year… conflicted between up/dn club due to firmness of course but it all played well
Will be interesting to see if the folks buying course for solar farm can get the # of panels if from China with President- elect suggesting high tariffs on in bound items and , if not, what happens next
Glen Ellen, Bungay Brook, Easton, Heather Hill also in various stages of purchase/sale agreements… regulations governing home building currently suggest over 85k just for compliance which might be more favorable under President Trump … a season or two We’ll know
Best to try it...
There is a good potential this course may be soon sold to be converted into a solar farm...and wish the owners, if so, the very best as there are great memories made over the years...
Thing is, with the potential tariff themes now surfacing, perhaps, the impact on importing the solar panels from China, may make the task of a new solar farm all the more difficult, along with the financial interest rates on the loans...maybe gets a player another year or two to experience the course...if you do get it(we are entering the cold, wet/snowy season), please, do play the course...and expect challenges from the first to the last stroke...
Leafy
Understandable. Just need some additional staff for hole to hole leaf blowing. Lots of hunting ion fairways
