Maplegate Country Club

About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Maintenance guy ruined two rounds in a row here
I’ve played this course twice and both times the same ornery maintenance worker basically ruined the round. 1st time we were on 16 and he refused to stop mowing while we were teeing off. He was mowing the right rough. Big surprise: we hit in to the right rough. We get out to where we thought our ball landed and he says “you hit right at me”. Ummm, ya, it’s a golf course and we’re playing golf. Every other course I’ve ever played the maintenance workers yield to golfers (as they should). Basically he admits to mowing over our balls. He proceeds to continue mowing and we have to lay up because he’s directly in our way. Cut to our next round yesterday. Same guy, basically the same interaction, this time on the 3rd hole which is a short par 3. He reluctantly pulls off to the right side to let us hit but still very much in the way. We hit in to him again unintentionally. He proceeds to tell us he didn’t see where our balls landed and that we “need to hurry up, there’s someone behind us”. There was a single 2 holes behind. And we had been waiting for 5 minutes on the tee for the group in front of us. This maintenance guy clearly hates his job and takes it out on the golfers. Get rid of that guy and this course would be nice
average course, slow pace
tee boxes not good, pace of play very slow, and greens were OK
Beautiful and challenging course
Beautiful fairways. Many blind tee shots. Long par 5’s.
A championship golf course for sure.
Especially with the hazards tricking you while running horizontally through the fairways on multiple holes! Makes you think to lay up or go for the gusto.
Great track
I really enjoyed the layout of the course. Would play again
Good after tournament round
Got lucky. Had a mostly empty my course in very good condition even with the recent rain. 3.5 hr round on a Monday afternoon for a fair price. Super happy. Will miss this place once it’s gone
Minor Issues
Some Tees, Greens and Fairways are worn and have some disease. Other than that, Perfect!
Tight slow and pricey
5.5 hr rd $100, tee boxes in ruins. Way too dried out for how tight it is.
Nice course
I understand that Maplegate CC has been sold at roughly 3X its estimated value to become a solar farm. Wondering if somebody really believes in solar or is being underwritten by someone who does.
Too bad.
atrocious
1st 5 holes took 2 hours with 2pm tee time. 3 groups on a tee box . unless they change I would never play this even if free.
Beautiful Muni
Course was beautifully maintained for a public course. Was surprisingly tricky, nice sand in bunkers, amazing defense on a lot of the holes that forced you to pick clubs other than driver. However, they overbooked and we were waiting excruciatingly too long between holes. Nearly 6 hours for 18 is not a good time.
Wayyyyyy overbooked
Maybe i'm cynical, but the guy selling this place overbooked it on Sunday. There were 6 tee times between 9:15 and 9:35. That's not a typo. Never going back here again unless and until it's sold.
6hr round
Would have been rated higher if they did not have tee times every 4 minutes. Behind 40 mins . And it took 2 hrs to play 4 holes ! At one point there were 4 foursomes waiting on the 5 th hole
Pace of play
There were 5 groups at every tee box waiting for the first 9 hole's. I was told the owner did not car because the place was selling and he was trying to get as many times in as he could.
