About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Nice course, but they need to remove some leaves
Maplegate's a lovely course and a very good test for anyone, but if you missed the fairway the other day, the ball was lost amongst the leaves in the rough as well as under any trees. I hope they remove some leaves soon rather than just blow them off the fairway. Not many of us hitting a high percentage of fairways.

A 5+ Hour Round
Not a particularly fun experience as there were plenty of rangers on the course, but they failed to maintain a decent pace of play.

Nice course
First time here . Course layout was great and conditions were good. Lots of trees and leaves. Considering it’s fall the course does a great job keeping the greens clear. The greens were very fast and in great condition . Won’t be back this year because the end of the season but will return multiple times next year. . Great course and very friendly staff. Nice job!!

Weekend public golf
Nice course, super nice staff. With public weekend play, unfortunately, it was crazy slow. The course demanded some force carries and the weekend warriors had a tough time matching the course. Had several tee boxes where three groups are waiting because the group in front think they’ll hit the shots of their lives (they didn’t). The ranger was very friendly and kept us informed. Walked off after 14 holes in four plus hours. Would be interested in seeing if weekday situation is better.

Much Improved but Rangers Doing Nothing
First time playing Maplegate after several years when management and course conditions were awful. I tried again after people told me course was much better.
The course conditions are very good now so thumbs up there. Golf carts very beat up and need to be replaced now.
Pace of play was be issue even though there are several Rangers on the course. The Rangers are not doing much of anything to keep slower players on pace with others. For example, between 11th and 12th hole, I viewed at least 3 Rangers in carts just chatting with each other while the slowest group in golf history passed them by.
Also, value not good compared to other similar courses as $90 fees and cart is about $20-25 higher than it should be especially with the old carts and slow pace of play.

Overpriced for the experience
It's not a bad course, and if they would bother to cut the tees and fairways (I haven't seen shaggier grass on a course in a long, long time) the conditioning would be reasonable. But as it is, the greens are slow, tees and fairways looked unkempt, and the pace of play was poor (5 hours). All that does not add up to a $75 (walking) experience. If the conditioning and pace of play improves, or the price goes down (hah), I'll think about returning. Until then, sadly, no thanks.

Better than expected
I have heard from numerous people that the staff at Maplegate is unfriendly and the course is not in good shape. The staff could not possibly have been nicer - especially the woman who was running the pro shop. Fairways were spotty in places, but the greens were in great condition. I will certainly return to Maplegate.

Good not Great
You can tell they’re trying to get the course back in good condition. Still needs a lot of work, but it’s heading in the right direction. Pace of play was nonexistent. No ranger or starter. There was a 5 some behind us. Golf carts are terrible and belong in a graveyard. Old school gas chugger. Cart would just randomly die after you’d come to a stop, then you’d have to pump the gas a bunch and then you’d eventually go flying. Anything left on the seat would slide back and fall out the back of the cart. Not ideal! I’ll be back, I love the layout of the course, but prob not until next season. Worth noting I wouldn’t pay a full rate, HotDeal only.

Everything was dirty.
We got a cart that had cigarettes butts in the cup holders and hadn’t been cleaned well maybe never. Trash in bushes and trash cans full. Tee boxes hadn’t been looked after. Obviously no marshal or maintenance people filling divots. Looked like the type of players they get don’t bother to do it.

Need better cart Maintenance
Several times now, our golf carts ran out of power. When one of our group switched out the broken cart , he was reprimanded for not asking to switch! The course needs better maintenance of both their gas and electric carts, as this is a recurring problem!
