About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

course interesting, many shots require you to carry over water, swampy areas on drives and on approach shots to greens. Need to be accurate off tees as fairways nestled in forests. But it is fair, would have been more enjoyable if pace of play faster. There was a large group playing a tournament grinding over every shot ahead of my foursome

STAY AWAY
Horrible course management. Stay away if you are planning on playing Friday afternoon - Sunday. Have never had a worse experience playing 18 on a Saturday. Took close to 6 hours and there was a significant delay on each hole. I'm sure it is fine Monday-Thursday but will never play again on the weekend. We brought this issue up to the ranger/course manager and they said 'this is how it is on the weekend' which makes no sense. Horrible experience. Stay away.

Worst golf experience - terribly managed course
Played on a Saturday morning and it was a 5 hour 45 min round. I know Saturday mornings are a popular time and typically pace of play is slow, but this was ridiculous. This is far worse than any of the Boston local muni courses, which I didn’t think was possible. When we raised this to the rangers, they seemed to think this was normal and just said it’s a busy day. They clearly overbooked and only spaces tee times out by 8 minutes. The rangers were then rude when we continued to complain about pace of play and acted as though there was nothing they could possibly do about it. Totally unacceptable, will never play here again. It’s a shame a pretty decent course is just so poorly managed.

Challenging Public Course
Loved it, challenging on every hole because of tightly packed trees. Hard to get out of. Would recommend.

Ripoff
Over $35 to walk nine holes at 4:30 on a Tuesday and the greens are aerated, hairy, with lots of bald spots, extremely slow and bumpy and one of them was covered with goose droppings. I applaud the work they've done to try improve the course but this was shameful.

Unhappy player
Golf now we got there the greens were aerated and we were told we could only play the front nine twice back nine was closed
Would have to do immense improvement to get me to go back and play again and for $64 it was no bargain

Rough course
Course in poor shape and greens recently aerated. They also had a group of kids everywhere slowing down play.

Terrible Greens !
Supposedly they aerorated the greens on 8/24 and we played 8/28. The greens were terrible ! So much sand and browned out ball marks, not to mention so many bald muddy areas! Needless to say, one could never get a true roll on a putt! It would take a miracle to one putt any of these greens!

PROFITEERING VS SAFETY
SAFETY OF GOLFER or CHILDREN in the name of PROFITS is the theme...
1.Welcomed with a THIRTY DOLLAR SURCHARGE if wanting to ride solo...but NO SOCIAL DISTANCING being considered for TWO people from SEPARATE HOUSEHOLDS..ANd of course, YOU HAD TO WEAR A MASK to ENTER the pro shop....fortunately we had masks and...
played...sort of...
2. The TEE boxes were aerated...the GREENS were aerated...except at the time of booking, NOTHING noted, else would never have booked the course.
3.PLUGS from the tee boxes and greens were all around the cart paths and what might be considered 'rough'...had three shots be influenced/deflected during round
4.CART PATHS ...saw many with large/deep/dangerous pot holes and several looking actually washed out and NO ATTENTION TO FIXING
5. PREFERRED lies almost everywhere on the fairways, roughs(if you could find em), and when hitting a nice chip/pitch up to the green, you saw a PUFF of sand where it landed/died....
6. PUTTING was severely impacted since it is clear they have NOT swept the sand into the aeration holes...so while working to make good shots, was like watching a bouncing ERRANT basketball...
7."GOLF CAMPERS" being shuttled by driver, with one child seated, one on each side, and two where the bags would go on GOLF CART PATH WHILE ADULTS are playing...oh, and NO MASKS TO BE SEEN on EE or children...
8.. "GOLF CAMPERS" being given lunch with NO SOCIAL DISTANCING for seating...yet, where is the concern for their safety...if the schools wont open, how is this okay?
9. Half the grounds crew clueless about letting players, play through by stepping aside/signalling players they acknowledge presence...
The WALKING price earlier in the year was what other courses were charging for single riders when that became available...yet, it seems there is no monies being put into the course even after losing a competitor two years ago...
WILL share the "news" about the surcharge when the next rounds are played...and the lack of safety for the golf campers...
