About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Played 18 and course in great shape, greens nice, whites were up so pace good, lots of work last two years on clearing brush etc. so if you miss a fairway you will still have a play. Always fun and challenging great day.
1st timer
Shot my 15 handicap ... course gets narrow for long hitters so I had to get creative more than once....A lot of team members out working course to keep it looking great....greens were in good shape. Had a nice experience out there . Would recommend

Nice layout - Greens in good condition - Difficult for first timer
This course has a nice layout but is extremely difficult for a first time player. I am an 8 handicap and played the course from the tips. The greens were in great condition but everything else was in need of some tender love and care. My pet peeve is poorly maintained bunkers. These bunkers were hardpan and there were no shortage of them. Course management is a must here and if you haven't played here before it is extremely difficult to determine the best shots to play. There is a course guide you can purchase in the club house that I noticed after my round that I would highly recommend any first time players purchasing. The club house is extremely small and run down. I thought the price was a bit steep and will not be back unless their rates are reduced. Again, the course has a good yet challenging layout yet for the price I would like to see the bunkers better taken care of.

What I liked about Maplegate is that they allowed us to make reservations weeks in advance. For those that are less interested in playing the odds and possibly missing out on a tee time...especially during heavy weekends like father's day...this course will allow you to book in advance. However, beyond that, everything else is...so so.

Great shape inside the ropes
This course has come a long way in the last two years. As long as you are on the tees, in the fairways and on and around the greens you will enjoy the condition of this course. Straying off the fairways will leave you with some tough and bare lies though. The layout is really clever with some long par 3’s and 4’s. Every hole is tree lined and some are fairly tight as well as having some forced carries. I am happy to improve my review from the last time I played Maplegate because it was always a good layout and it’s close to home.

First Time at Maplegate
The staff was friendly. We played without any wait time in 3 hours 50 minutes walking.
The greens and course were in great condition.
The price was right as well.
I can' wait to play using the practice range and greens before my next tee time.

Great course would play it again
The course is great the greens and the fairway are in great condition I would definitely play it again, the only down fall was the pace of play but I was told that's always the problem that's being said it's one of the best courses I have played in Massachusetts I would give it a 4.5 star rating

Still a work in progess
First, NO female restrooms on course, since pro shop in emergency only...know they are trying to make back some list revenue but that omission is just a business decision that stopped us from looking to rebook... courses do have port o potty for both genders that we have played at since state reopened
Second, lots of trees look to have be thinned out yet there are still too many patches in/around roughs that’ force preferred lies just to not hit a stone, hard pan etc
Fairways and greens in great shape with putting being fastest seen in many moons
Third, with new course superintendent on board. The progress had been a pleasure to watch yet quality/value for price a tad over for current stage of work in progress... will have call ahead to confirm wives will have facilities to use prior to booking next round

Expensive, angry staff, and poorly maintained
Follow directions from one employee, only to be yelled at by another. Not the customer service I expected for one of the most expensive public courses. Huge lines at the first tee box, not the best practice of social distancing. No intentions of ever returning.

Carts need to be cleaned better and greens should be maintained better but overall good course.

Solid course but expensive for location/quality
Hope after the course recovers from the health shut down they lower the prices. 65 walking 80 with a cart is a lot for location.

The Return of Maplegate
Maplegate has come a long way in the past 3 years and I’m incredibly satisfied and impressed with this years continued improvement. Fairways are looking pretty and tee boxes are the best I’ve seen in years. For those unfamiliar with the layout it is notably complex and difficult playing from the blues so forget about the tips unless you’re a single digit handicap. Lenny and the staff there are extremely friendly and accommodating. I am very confident this course will be back to its championship level conditions soon enough!

Nice layout, lacks sophistication.
I do like the layout, but it's at the expense of other amenities found in more elite courses. Plain, small clubhouse, (with some food, beverages - including beer) poorly maintained practice area and generally disorganized management. Fairways needed mowing, traps needed more sand and some raking - but the greens were in decent shape albeit a bit slow but it is May. The layout offers a nice diversity of tee boxes allowing you to play to your distance preference and make not mistake, it's not an easy course. It requires fairly precise distance control off the box as well as on approaches, most holes are tree lined and there are a couple of forced carries. It's not a difficult walking course as the green - to next teebox distances are short. I would play here again but this course could be much more.
