About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Greens and conditions not great
Greens are extremely slow and bumpy but are better than they have been in years past. Could be a really nice course if more money was put into the upkeep, since the layout is fun. Tee boxes are mostly awful, rough is mostly dirt patches with crab grass. Would not play here if it wasn't so close to where i live.
For the money though it's the cheapest in the area
Still a work in Progress...
Since the closing of a nearby competitor, the peak and off peak pricing has skyrocketed, almost too much for the overall playability of the course. The new groundskeeper is working very hard and deserves all the accolades for bringing MOST, BUT NOT ALL of the fairways into good shape...yet there are surprise dirt patches, that when hit with a drive, saw three, actually bounce all the way to the rough, then disappear. The greens are soft and based on the number of divots we fixed, perfect for fast play(slow greens mean fast play); saw application of fertilizer just in front of Wed PM rain deluge(need to really check the weather forecast since most of the application, probably washed away. The tee boxes need rest' perhaps combining them into two from four might help(i.e., red and white, or blue and gold). Glad to see a kids camp, but agast at seeing the camp counselors strapping kids in to where the bags are on carts to transport them to the fairways for their taste of what it might be like....MGA has SEVERAL kids courses, and hope the parents were told. There is really no clubhouse in any classic sense. As mentioned above, most of the fairways are underway,some still need a ton of work...there are virtually no roughs on many, but, hardpan dirt, stones and show too much wear. There HAS been much progress, but, still, my group unanimously agreed, the value was lacking for what is in the range of mid high, to low high price range for its current status. Will perhaps try the course in the Spring 2020 allowing time for more work by new greenskeeper to take hold.

Not for the faint of heart
This course has been improving the last few years but it plays tough for a 90-100 golfer
Lot of hazards and lay up shots.
Great staff and it moves along well.

Big improvements
I had not played in a few years because of the greens conditions. They have done a lot of improvements and they are in the process of doing more. My only complaint that there was no starter and there were several twosomes allowed to play without pairing up resulting in unneeded slow play.

Conditions improving
New greenskeeper and crew are doing a great job, conditions are improving and I can’t remember the last time I saw the course in such good shape. Still some bare spots on fairways and tee boxes but overall in great condition compared to the last few years. Could use more seed mix in carts and on some tee boxes. Staff in clubhouse are always friendly.

Great Course
This course has potential to be one of the best around and was in a rough shape a few months ago but now it looks great and i cant wait to go back. This place has always had the friendliest staff around also a Good practice area.

Play here often
Crews were working hard. Course is getting better. Some tee boxes little rough but overall in good shape.fun course. Have to think. Can’t always just bomb it off the tee.great value.mnice people.

Bring your GPS and/or range finder.
Course was in great shape. Several challenging holes, with forced carries. The course lacked the standard 150 yard markers. It was difficult judging distances to the center of the green.

Improving!!!
This place was a gem when I was younger, but they let the course conditions get so bad that it was barely playable. Over the past year or so, they hired a new superintendent and the course conditions have gotten much better. The greens were fast and rolling well. Still some work that needs to be done but it’s getting there!

Great course, good value
The course is in fairly good condition given how much rain there has been recently and I’ve had a few good rounds of 18 over the past few weeks. It can get a little slow on the weekends but not so bad that it ruins the round. The clubhouse isn’t huge but they’ve got great sandwiches and hotdogs and a pretty well stocked bar for after the round

good value
weather forecast did maplegate no favors. forecast kept golfers away but i went and I am glad i did. rainy but playable. Course was quiet due to the weather forecast played in under 3 hours Great value, nice people.

Fun COurse
tough to evaluate this early in the year but seemed nice. Greens were good. Played in 3 hours. Course was quiet due to the weather

You missed the point with SLOW play
A round of golf should NEVER be FIVE PLUS HOURS! You missed the point with your excuse that it was busy. You have a starter telling people that it will be slow and that it is OKAY. Well, it is NOT okay. You did not enforce prompt play. Instead you condone slow play.

With an uncharacteristically full day as we start our season, we worked hard to allow all our guests the chance to play their rounds. The starter tells us on the first tee that it will be slow! SO they set an expectation to players that slow is okay. What the starter should do is tell people that they need to move along and tell them how they can keep the pace of play acceptable. our round was FIVE PLUS HOURS. I won't go back for a long time.
