Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Blind hazards
This course has a great layout but needs some work on fairways and greens. One might say that is due to the time of year that I played and they have not had time to take care of winter kill. I have played this course before (fall of last year) and found the course to be in the same condition.
It helps if you play with someone who has played the course before as there are at least 3 or 4 blind hazards.
Improving
Looks like there is a true commitment to improving the conditions of course. Fairways and greens much improved from last year. Excellent staff. Would definitely go back.
Fast Greens and nice layout.
Really enjoyed playing this course; Staff was very professional and friendly and I will continue to play there.
Still needs spring clean-up. Lot's of potential. The bones are there.
This place has a lot of potential. It looks like they are doing some course improvement work. Early April conditions. Greens and Tee boxes in very good shape. Fairways in moderate shape. Some unevenness and bare spots. Lots of wet areas. Again, still very early in season, so hopefully some clean-up will be done. New electric golf carts are great!.
First time playing and for $14 for 18 w/cart from GolfNow, really I have no complaints for that $. Will return later in the summer after more growth (fill-in) and maintenance and this place should be very good.
Many of the holes have blind hits. Hopefully, the put in some visual sticks of where to aim off of tee. Here is where a GPS would be nice if you haven't played here ever or in a long time.
Early April Golf in New England
Carts allowed! And they are brand new EZ Go electrics, very smooth. Not surprising with all the wet areas, cart-path only. Tees and greens in very good shape. Did they spray paint the greens to look more green? Club house is nothing to write home about. No hot dogs available at the turn!?! Handmade sandwiches provided instead. Maplegate has seen steady improvement and is one of our go-to courses. Keep up with those improvements and add some sand to the bottom of those bunkers.
Great course
Good course for the money. Fun layout, good greens for early in the year. Not overly challenging but fun.
Great challenging track
Course and greens are in good conditions. Worth the trip
Fall golf
Not crowded, course in great shape, friendly staff. I had fun.
nice layout
the course was in best shape of the year.Good job guys.Looks like ownership is stepping up
Just Keeps Getting Better
The place just keeps improving as you can see the results of new Superintendent and hard working crew. It's also tough to beat the management as they just continue to excel at running what one of my playing partners commented as "something you would expect from a first rate course". Greens ran true which is tough to see with the very unpredictable cold snaps where the ground freezes and thaws...they are attempting to still improve the experience. They were managing the other issues that come at this time of the year...leaves...and they have done great. You just want to tip your cap but the results are paying off as one the players in our foursome proudly declared that he had become a member the day before. That's a great trend for all the efforts the staff has been making through this season and I'm sure it will continue...I recommend you enjoy the experience of a place on it's way back...The region needs this place to set the bar once again...
Conditions are improving
Nice to see the improvements to the course conditions. The greens are the best they’ve been all season.
On its way back
I had last played Maplegate a number of years ago and at that time the greens were very slow and in fair - poor shape. I played yesterday and was impressed with the greens. They rolled very true, had good speed to them, and not a bare spot anywhere that I could see.
Rumor has it they have a new course superintendent coming aboard from a course that I played this summer which was in great shape. This was once one of the the marquis courses in the area and if the same improvements I witnessed on the greens can be extended to the fairways and rough it will be once again.
Still a little work needed in those areas but overall a pleasurable experience. No hassle at all on the Golf Now reservation. Course was near empty due to rain/winds in forecast so pro shop individual said I could just head out when ready. Joined up with another single and played the 18 in 2 hours 45 minutes.
Getting the work it deserves
With the new hire of an experienced superintendent, I'm looking forward to seeing maplegate get restored to a great course. Good layout, but with poor maintenance and course conditions in the past, and a lack of a decent clubhouse, it was hard to justify playing here, even at a discount! When I played the course this week, it was clear that positive changes were in affect, course was in great shape! I'm looking forward to playing here again soon.
needs some grass
I love Maplegate but a few fairways and greens have bad spots and need reseeding. Don't know what is the problem but hopefully new super can get it done.
