Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Maple Gate
Greens in very good shape, Fairways hard ball would roll. Good for me a short hitter. Traps where very hard sand, not really a trap of sand. Solid sand.
Overpriced
For close to $60 for a weekday, afternoon round this was far too much for the condition of the course. Fairways were in rough shape especially around the edges where it was more dirt and rock than grass. The actual greens were in fine shape but even the fringe of at least half of the greens was torn up, under repair and sandy and dirty. The course itself is fine, some nice holes and challenging with the amount of woods. My biggest issue was there weren't a lot of holes to hit dirver- many of the par 4s and 5s were doglegs with it like 175 yards or less to the bend. Not as much fun as I hopes and not worth the cost. Friendly staff but during registration and at the turn there was just 1 person working who was also answering phones and took us 10 minutes to pay for a drink.
Course is growing on me
I have played this course a couple times and each time I like it a little more.. Each hole presents a different set of challenges. Not one fairway is flat and almost each green is well protected.
To score well, you need to have well placed shots and be ready to lay-up on a few holes.
Fairways weren't pristine, but generally in pretty good shape. Greens were fast on the day we played and in pretty good shape.
Played as a twosome and finished in under 4 h, so good pace of play. Paid with a GolfNow deal which was an excellent value.
Fast Greens
The course is in decent shape. The greens are much faster than you'd expect. Not a negative at all but be prepared if you go there without a solid short game.
In TERRIBLE shape
I had a 4:30 pm tee time on a Monday afternoon and paid $54 with a cart ($49 golf and cart at the course and $5 for booking through Golf Now). Every other course in the area is cheaper than Maplegate. The overall course condition was horrible..... tons of dead spots in the fairways, fringe around some of the greens were just dirt, no grass! The greens overall were in good shape, but everything else was terrible. There's no excuse to be in this bad of shape in the middle of June. It's a real shame what's happened to the course over the years. It has a fun layout and used to be a course that I would play a bunch each season, but I won't be returning any time soon now. New England CC, Crystal Lake, Blissful Meadows & Blackstone National are all close to Maplegate but are all cheaper and in 1000 times better condition.
Terrible time
Pace of play is pathetic. Sprinklers went off on the 16, 17 & 18th holes and greens at 2pm on a Saturday - completely unacceptable & they did nothing to make it right.
Poor Condition
The greens were adequate, but the condition of the rest of the course was very poor.
Great course
I always have a good time playing here. Challenging enough to keep you interested but not so tough you get discouraged. Greens are amazing even in April. Can’t wait to play this course when it’s in full bloom. You can’t go wrong playing Maplegate any time of year
This is no longer a 3 star course
In the past, this course deserved a 3 star rating for a number of reasons, mostly relating to course conditions and staff.
That is far from the truth today. The new superintendent and crew have done a remarkable job in a short period of time.
The greens are fast and true, particularly for this early in the season, fairways are in great shape for the most part , and the pace of play is much smoother than in the past.
Worth the buck
Friend and I played for only $30 apiece, w/cart, course was in decent shape except for outer ring of genes little ruff. When arrived staff in clubhouse greeted us, and pulled cart up to our bags, we hopped in and got started right away. All in all well worth the money.
With the golf now hot deal, we could not be happier. The course was in a lot better shape than we expected after reading some reviews. They are obviously working on the course to make it better. If we get the chance we will play this course again. It only took 4 hours and 10 minutes to get the round in. Fantastic.
Pleasantly surprised
I've been playing here for many years. Conditions have been up & down in that time. I'm glad to report the course was in excellent shape given the delayed spring we've had.
I've always enjoyed the layout and that remains true. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I'll be playing here on a more regular basis this year. I recommend others do too!
Course starting to look good
Def see the progress being made here. Greens were decent and the fairways were fair. Def some bare spots here and there but you can tell work is being done.
